nānopādhiṣu yoṁ'śakānanalavatsaṁyojya māyābalā-
dyātyeko bahulātmatāmata iyaṁ svābhāvikī yasya no ।
tāṁścānte nijamāyayā viracitānsvāṁśānupādhīnaho
saṁhṛtyādvaya eva tiṣṭhati punastasmai parasmai namaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
mandadhīsukhabodhāya sārārthaspaṣṭabhāṣiṇīm ।
bhāvāgaṇeśaḥ kurute yogasūtreṣu dīpikām ॥ 2 ॥
bhāṣye parīkṣito yo'rtho vārtike gurubhiḥ svayam ।
saṁkṣiptaḥ siddhavatso'syāṁ yuktiṣūktādhikā kvacit ॥ 3 ॥
’mṛtyuproktāṁ naciketo'tha labdhvā vidyāmetāṁ yogavidhiṁ ca kṛtsnam । brahmaprāpto virajo'bhūdvimṛtyuranyo'pyevaṁ yo vidadhyātmameva’ ityādiśrutiṣu mumukṣūṇāṁ yogavidhiranuṣṭhānārthaṁ jñeyatayāvagamyate । ato yogavidhimupadidikṣurbhagavānpatañjaliḥ śiṣyāvadhānāya tacchāstrārambhaṁ pratijānīte-
atha yogānuśāsanam ॥ 1 ॥
athaśabdo'tra uccāraṇamātreṇa maṅgalarūpo'dhikāravācakaḥ । na praśnānantaryādyarthakaḥ । śābdī hyākāṅkṣā śabdenaiva prapūryata iti nyāyena śabdānupasthitārthānantaryārthakatvānaucityāt । śiṣyapraśnagurvājñālokānukampādīnāmaviśeṣeṇa śāstraracanāprayojakatayā kasyānantarye tātparyamityavadhārayitumaśakyatvāt । hiraṇyagarbhādinā śiṣṭasya śāsanamanuśāsanaṁ śāstram । śasyate aneneti vyutpatteḥ । tathāca hiraṇyagarbhādigurūpadiṣṭasya yogasya śāstramadhikṛtam । ārabdhamityarthaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
upadiṣṭaṁ yogaṁ lakṣayati sūtrābhyām –
yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
cittasyāntaḥkaraṇasya vakṣyamāṇā yā vṛttayaḥ tāsāṁ nirodho nivartanaṁ yoga ityarthaḥ । idaṁ ca citte nivartanaṁ jīvanayoniyatravadatīndriyaḥ prayatnaviśeṣaścittanigraharūpo vittovilayaheturna tu vṛttyabhāva eva, vakṣyamāṇasaṁskārajanakatvasyānupapatteḥ, abhāvasya saṁskārajanakatve'tiprasaṅgāditi । atra sarvavṛttinirodhāvacanena saṁprajñātayogo'pi saṁgṛhītaḥ । yogo hi dvividhaḥ । saṁprajñāto'saṁprajñātaśca । atrādyo dhyeyātiriktavṛttinirodhaḥ । antyastu sarvavṛttinirodhaḥ । vṛttinirodhastūbhayasādhāraṇa iti ॥ 2 ॥
nanvevaṁ vyutthānakālīne yatkiṁcidvṛttinirodhe'tivyāptiḥ । kiṁca vṛttiviṣayakabodhasvarūpa eva puruṣaḥ kāṣṭhāgnivaditi yogasāṁkhyayoḥ siddhāntaḥ, ato vṛttivilaye tadanubhavarūpaḥ puruṣo'pi naśyet kāṣṭhāpāye'gnivat, tataśca yogakāle kaḥ puruṣārtha ityapekṣāyāmidaṁ sūtraṁ pravartate –
tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe'vasthānam ॥ 3 ॥
tadetyanena nirodhaviśeṣa evāsaṁprajñātākhyaḥ parāmṛśyate । yogyatābalāt । saṁprajñāte svarūpāvasthānābhāvasyottarasūtre vakṣyamāṇatvāt । tadā sarvavṛttinirodhakāle draṣṭuḥ dṛṣṭisvarūpasya puruṣasya svarūpe nirviṣayacinmātrarūpe avasthānaṁ bhavati । svato dharmato vā na nāśaśaṅkāstītyarthaḥ । taduktaṁ vāsiṣṭhe –“asaṁbhavati sarvatra digbhūmākāśarūpiṇā (?) । prakāśye yādṛśaṁ rūpaṁ prakāśasyāmalaṁ bhavet ॥ ahaṁ tvaṁ jagadityādau praśānte dṛśyasaṁbhrame । syāttādṛśī kevalatā sthite draṣṭaryavīkṣaṇe“ iti । idānīṁ ca vṛtyabhāvāttadanugataduḥkhabhoganivṛttiḥ puruṣārthaḥ । tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpāvasthitihetucittavṛttinirodho yogalakṣaṇam । tacca na vyutthānakālīnasyāstīti nātivyāptiriti bhāvaḥ । saṁprajñātasya asaṁprajñātadvārā svarūpāvasthitihetutvamupapādanīyam ॥ 3 ॥
yogakāle'narthanivṛttiṁ pradarśya kūṭasthanityasyāpyayogakāle tadviparyayaṁ darśayati –
vṛttisārupyamitaratra ॥ 4 ॥
itaratra vṛttikāle vṛttisādṛśyaṁ draṣṭurbhavatītyarthaḥ । vṛttīnāṁ sukhaduḥkhamohātmakaghaṭādyākāratayā caitanyamapi tatpratibimbavaśāttadrūpamiva bhavati । yathā japālauhityena sphaṭiko'pi lohita iva bhavati tadvat । idameva draṣṭurvṛttisārūpyaṁ viṣayoparaktavṛttigrahaṇam । tadā sukhaduḥkhabhogarūpo'nartho'pīti bhāvaḥ । ’ādānasya grahaṇatvādabhyavaharaṇasya ca bhogatvāt’ iti vārtike caitadgurucaraṇaiḥ prasādhitaṁ prapañcitaṁ ca, atra sūtrābhyāmetatsiddham । vṛttikāla eva puruṣasya duḥkhabhogarūpaḥ saṁsāro vṛttiviyoge ca tannivṛttirūpaṁ kaivalyamato vṛttayo niroddhavyā iti । idaṁ ca yogasyāpātaphalamuktam । mukhyaphalaṁ tu saṁprajñātayogasya dhyeyasākṣātkāraḥ । asaṁprajñātaphalamuktam ।mukhyaphalaṁ tu saṁprajñātayogasya dhyeyasākṣātkāraḥ । asaṁprajñātayogasya ca tattvajñānasādhāraṇākhilajñānavāsanākṣayeṇa prārabdhamapyatikramyāśu mocanamiti vārtikakṛdbhiḥ prapañcitam ॥ 4 ॥
nanu kiyatprakārāḥ kīdṛśyo vā vṛttayo niroddhavyā ityākāṁkṣāyāmāha –
vṛttayaḥ pañcatayyaḥ kliṣṭākliṣṭāḥ ॥ 5 ॥
vakṣyamāṇāḥ pañcaprakārā eva vṛttayo niroddhavyāḥ । tāsāṁ nirodhenaiva rāgadveśādivṛttīnāṁ svayamanudayāt । tāśca vṛttayaḥ kliṣṭarūpā vā bhavantu , akliṣṭarūpā vā bhavantu , sarvā eva niroddhavyā ityarthaḥ। kliṣṭāstāmasyo'kliṣṭāḥ sāttvikyo rājasyaśca । kliṣṭākliṣṭamiśravṛtteraṁśābhyāṁ tāmasīsātvikyorevāntarbhāvaḥ। ’rajomiśrami’ti smṛteḥ ॥ 5 ॥
kāstāḥ pañcaprakārā vṛttaya ityapekṣāyāmāha –
pramāṇaviparyayavikalpanidrāsmṛtaya ॥ 6 ॥
sugamam ॥ 6 ॥
pramāṇādyāḥ pañcavṛttīḥ krameṇa pañcabhiḥ sūtrairlakṣayati –
pratyakṣānumānāgamāḥ pramāṇāni ॥ 7 ॥
anadhigatatattvabodhaḥ pramā, tatkaraṇaṁ pramāṇamiti pramāṇasāmānyalakṣaṇaṁ prasiddhatvādupekṣyaiva vibhāgaḥ kṛtaḥ । tatrendriyadvārā svato vā manaḥsaṁnikarṣājjāyate yā'nadhigatārthaniścayarūpā vṛttiḥ sā pratyakṣaṁ pramāṇam। niścayatvaṁ ca saṁśayabhinnajñānatvam । ato necchākṛtyādiṣvativyāptiḥ । icchādiṣu saṁnikarṣasya hetutve pramāṇābhāvāt । asya ca pramāṇasya phalaṁ pramā pauruṣeyo bodhaḥ । vṛttidvāraiva hi tadārūḍho'rthaścittau pratibimbate । yadyapi puruṣasvarūpo bodho nityastathāpi tattadviṣayāviṣṭatvena tasya phalatvaṁ puruṣāśritattvaṁ ca ghaṭate । viṣayatā ca pratibimbasvarūpeti । evamevānumānādyakhilavṛttīnāṁ pauruṣeyo bodha eva prayojanaṁ puruṣārthameva karaṇavyāpārāt, rājārthaṁ bhṛtyavyāpāravat । vyāpyādivṛttijanyā vṛttiranumānaṁ pramāṇam । yogyaśabdajanyā vṛttiśca śabdapramāṇamiti । eteṣveva pramāṇeṣu paroktānāmupamānaitihyādīnāṁ praveśaḥ । atra pramātrādivibhāge vārtikakārikāḥ –“pramātā cetanaḥ śuddhaḥ pramāṇaṁ vṛttireva ca । pramā'rthākāravṛttīnāṁ cetanapratibimbanam ॥ pratibimbitavṛttīnāṁ viṣayo meya ucyate । vṛttayaḥ sākṣibhāsyāḥ syuḥ karaṇasyānapekṣaṇāt ॥ sākṣāddarśanarūpaṁ ca sākṣitvaṁ sāṁkhyasūcitam । avikāreṇa draṣṭṛtvaṁ sākṣitvaṁ cāpare jaguḥ” ॥ 7 ॥
viparyayo mithyājñānamatadrūpapratiṣṭham ॥ 8 ॥
viparyaya iti lakṣyanirdeśaḥ । mithyājñānamiti lakṣaṇam । mithyetyasya vivaraṇamatadrūpapratiṣṭhamiti । na tadrūpo na svasamānākāro yo viṣayastadviśeṣyakamityarthaḥ । bhramasthale ca jñānākārasyaiva viṣaye samāropaḥ। “vipra pṛthvyādi cittasthaṁ na bahiṣṭhaṁ kadācana । svapnabhramamadādyeṣu sarvairevānubhūyate” iti smṛteḥ ॥ svapnādiṣu cittameva pratīyate na bahiṣṭhamityarthaḥ । saṁśayasyāpi viparyaye'ntarbhāvaḥ । atadrūpapratiṣṭhatvavacanādanyathākhyātiratra darśane siddhā na tu sāṁkhyānāmivāvivekamātram ॥ 8 ॥
śabdajñānānupātī vastuśūnyo vikalpaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
śabdaśca jñānaṁ ca anupātinī yasya sa tathā । tathā ca bādhābādhakālāviśeṣeṇa tadubhayajanako'rthaśūnyapratyato vikalpa ityarthaḥ । viparyayaśca bādhottaraṁ na svaviṣayeṣu śabdajñāne janayati । pramāṇavṛttiścārthavatīti tayorvyāvṛttiḥ । asyodāharaṇāni – rāhoḥ śiraḥ puruṣasya caitanyam । evaṁ ’ eṣa vandhyāsuto yāti khapuṣpakṛtaśekharaḥ । mṛgatṛṣṇāmbhasi snātaḥ śaśaśṛṅgadhanurdharaḥ ।’ ityādīni । bādhottaramapi hi tādṛśajñānaiḥ śabdajñānarūpo vyavahāraḥ kriyata iti । vaiśeṣikaiścaitānyāhāryajñānānyucyante ॥ 9 ॥
abhāvaprayayālambanā vṛttirnidrā ॥ 10 ॥
prakṛtatvāduktavṛttīnāṁ yo'bhāvo'nutpādaḥ tasya pratyayaḥ kāraṇaṁ tamaḥ tadālambanā tadviṣayiṇī tamaḥpracuracittaviṣayiṇīti yāvat, evaṁbhūtā vṛttirnidretyarthaḥ । jāgratsvapna(stha)vṛttyuparame cittasya svagatasukhādiviṣayiṇī nidrākhyā vṛttiranumīyate । sukhamahamasvāpsaṁ duḥkhamahamasvāpsaṁ gāḍhaṁ mūḍho'hamasvāpsamityevaṁ sāttvikādinidrotthitānāṁ trividhasmaraṇādato'pi nidrā vṛttiriti । śuddhatārkikāstu imāmapi vṛttiṁ svapnamadhye praveśayanti । suṣuptyavasthāṁ tu jñānaśūnyatvarūpāṁ jñānakāraṇābhāvādevecchanti । asmābhirapi sarvavṛttiśūnyāpyavasthā svīkriyata eva । tasyāṁ ca gāḍhaṁ tamo doṣa iṣyate । “sattvājjāgaraṇaṁ vidyādrajasā svāpamādiśet । prasvāpanaṁ tu tamasā turīyaṁ triṣu saṁtatam” iti smṛteḥ । indriyādyutpatteḥ prāgeva hiraṇyagarbhasya jñānotpattyā na jñānasāmānye tvaṅmanoyogādīnāṁ hetutvaklṛptisaṁbhavo yena jñānakāraṇābhāvādeva sāvasthopapādyeteti ॥ 10 ॥
anubhūtaviṣayāsaṁpramoṣaḥ smṛtiḥ ॥ 11 ॥
bhūtau pūrvamanubhūtau yau viṣayau vṛttitadārūḍhārthau tayornāsti saṁpramoṣaḥ steyamapahāro yasmātpratyayātsa pratyayaḥ smṛtirityarthaḥ । pramuṣṭatattāke śabdajanyapadārthopasthityādau smṛtivyavahārābhāvāt, sa paṭaḥ sa ghaṭa ityādipratyaya eva smṛtiśabdavācya ityāśayaḥ । tatra sa iti pūrvopasthitirapi bhāsata eveti । atra pratyabhijñāvyāvṛttaye saṁskāramātrajanyatvaṁ vivakṣaṇīyam । pramuṣṭatattākaṁ smaraṇaṁ tvanubhavamadhye praveśanīyam । anena sūtreṇa mukhyasmṛtireva lakṣitā । pramāṇetyādivṛttivibhāgasūtre tu saṁskāramātrajanyaguṇatvena pramuṣṭatattākamapi tajjñānaṁ smṛtiśabdena gṛhītamiti na vibhāganyūnatā । niroddhavyā vṛttayo vyākhyātāḥ ॥ 11 ॥
itaḥ paraṁ nirodhopāya ucyate –
abhyāsavairāgyābhyāṁ tannirodhaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
vakṣyamāṇābhyāsavairāgye tābhyāṁ militābhyāṁ cittavṛttinirodho bhavatītyarthaḥ । tatra cittanadyā vairāgyeṇa viṣayamārgagaṁ vṛttisrotaḥ pratibadhyate । vivekadarśanābhyāsena ca vivekamārgagaṁ vṛttisrota udvāhyate । ābhyāṁ vyāpārābhyāṁ nirodhākhye kaivalyābdhau cittanadī vilīyate । ityubhayādhīno vṛttinirodhaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
abhyāsavairāgye krameṇa lakṣayati sūtravargeṇa –
tatra sthitau yatnā'bhyāsaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
tatra tayormadhye sthitau vivekaparyantaṁ cittasthairyārthaṁ prayatno vakṣyamāṇānāṁ śraddhāvīryasmṛtiprajñārūpasādhanānāṁ punaḥpunaranuṣṭhānamabhyāsa ityarthaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
anuṣṭhānāya abhyāsasya dārḍhyamapi lakṣayati –
sa tu dīrghakālanairantaryasatkārāsevito dṛḍhabhūmiḥ ॥ 14 ॥
sa tu abhyāso dīrghakālena sevito nairantaryaiṇāvyavadhānena ca sevitastapobrahmacaryādirūpaiḥ satkāraiśca sevito dṛḍhabhūmirbhavati । vyutthānasaṁskāreṇānabhibhūtāṁ sthitiṁ janayatītyarthaḥ ॥ 14 ॥
yogahetuvairāgyayormadhye prathamamaparavairāgyaṁ lakṣayati –
dṛṣṭānuśravikaviṣayavitṛṣṇasya vaśīkārasaṁjñā vairāgyam ॥ 15 ॥
aparavairāgyaṁ tāvaccaturvidham – yatamānasaṁjñā, vyatirekasaṁjñā, ekendriyasaṁjñā, vaśīkārasaṁjñā ceti । tatra dṛṣṭeṣvaihikeṣu viṣayeṣu, ānuśrāvikeṣu anuśravākhyavedokteṣu viṣayeṣu svargādiṣu, vitṛṣṇasya ādyavairāgyatrayayuktasya cittasya jāyamānā yā vaśīkārasaṁjñā sā yogahetuvairāgyamaparamityarthaḥ । vairāgyāntarasya paratayā vakṣyamāṇatvāt । ayaṁ bhāvaḥ । yatamānādivairāgye satyapi vaśīkāraṁ vinā viṣayasāṁnidhye yogabhraṁśo bhavati । ata ādyavairāgyatrayābhyāsādutpadyamānā vaśīkārasaṁjñaiva yogaheturiti । vairāgyacatuṣṭayaṁ tantrāntare proktaṁ tadyathā – “jñānapūrvakavairāgyasādhanānāṁ doṣadarśanādīnāmanuṣṭhānaṁ yatamānasaṁjñātvena paribhāṣitā vitṛṣṇā prathamā bhūmikā । jitānyetānīndriyāṇi, etāni ca jetavyānīti vyatirekāvadhāraṇayogyatā dvitīyā bhūmikā । bāhyendriyaviṣayeṣu rūpādiṣu rāgadveṣādikṣaye sati, ekasminneva manasi mānādiviṣayakarāgadveṣādyapasāraṇaṁ tṛtīyā bhūmikā । prakṛṣṭaviṣayasāṁnidhye'pi rāgādivāsanānudbodhaścaturthī bhūmikā vaśīkārasaṁjñā vitṛṣṇeti ॥ 15 ॥
paravairāgyaṁ lakṣayati –
tatparaṁ puruṣakhyāterguṇavetṛṣṇyam ॥ 16 ॥
taditi vairāgyaṁ parāmṛśyate । puruṣakhyāterātmadvayānyatarasākṣātkārāddhetorutpadyamānaṁ sakalaguṇeṣvātmopakaraṇeṣu vaitṛṣṇyamalaṁbuddhiḥ paraṁ śreṣṭhaṁ vairāgyamityarthaḥ । pūrvasūtre viṣayadoṣadarśanajaṁ viṣayeṣveva vairāgyamuktam, natu jñāne tatsādhane ca । tadānīṁ ca jñāne'pi vināśitvādidoṣadarśanasāmye'pi nālaṁbuddhirūpaṁ vairāgyaṁ saṁbhavati, avidyānivṛttyākhyaprayojanavattvāt । atra sūtre jñānenāvidyānivṛttyādau siddhe tenaiva doṣadarśanenātmatattvadṛṣṭyā ca jñānasādhaneṣvātmatṛptasyopekṣocyata iti vairāgyayorbhedaḥ । etasminneva ca vairāgye sati kaivalyaniyamo, na pūrvavairāgya ityato'sya paratvam ॥ 16 ॥
yogasya prakṛṣṭaṁ sādhanaṁ nirdiṣṭam । idānīṁ yogasyāvāntaravibhāga ucyate sūtraiḥ –
vitarkavicārānandāsmitārūpānugamātsaṁprajñātaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
sākṣātkāraviśeṣarūpairvitarkādibhiranugamāddhetoḥ samyakprajñāvattvena saṁprajñātanāmā yogo bhavati । caturvidha ityarthaḥ । ekasminneva caturbhujādivyaṣṭisamaṣṭisaṁghātarūpālambane caturvidhaḥ saṁprajñātaḥ krameṇa bhavati। tatra bhūtendriyayoraśrutāmatāśeṣaviśeṣasākṣātkāre vitarkaparibhāṣā । tena ca phalenopahitaścittavṛttinirodho vitarkānugata ucyate । tathā tatraivālambane kāraṇatvenānugatā ye prakṛtimahadahaṅkāratanmātrarūpā bhutendriyayoḥ sūkṣmādyarthāstadgatāśeṣaviśeṣasākṣātkāre vicārasaṁjñā । tena ca phalenopahitaścittavṛttinirodho vicārānugataḥ । tathā tatraivālambane yaścaturviṁśatitattvānugataḥ sukharūpaḥ puruṣārtho'sti, tadgatāśeṣaviśeṣasākṣātkāre ānandasaṁjñā । tena ca phalenopahitaścittavṛttinirodha ānandānugataḥ । yadyapi duḥkhamohādidharmajātaṁ triguṇātmakaṁ sakalavastuṣvasti tathāpi sukharāgeṇaiva saṁsārādātmano bandhācca tadeva mukhyato draṣṭavyam । yathā tatra doṣadarśanena yogajasiddhiṣvapi vairāgyaṁ syādityāśayenānandamātre yoga upadiṣṭaḥ । tathā tatraivālambane jīveśvararūpaṁ yatpuruṣadvayamasti tadanyatarasyāśeṣaviśeṣasākṣātkāre asmitāsaṁjñā । tena ca phalenopahitaścittavṛttinirodho'smitānugata iti । āsu ca saṁprajñātabhūmikāsu utsargataḥ kramo'pyasti । sthūlādikrameṇaiva paramasūkṣmaparyantaṁ cittasamādhānasaṁbhavāt । yasya tvīśvarānugrahavaśādādāvevottamabhūmikālābho bhavati tasya pūrvapūrvabhūmiṣu yogo nāpekṣyata iti saṁprajñātasvarūpaṁ vibhāgaścoktaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
asaṁprajñātasvarūpamucyate –
virāmapratyayābhyāsapūrvaḥ saṁskāraśeṣo'nyaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
tattvajñānalakṣaṇayāpi vṛttyā viramyatāmiti pratyayaḥ, jñāne'pyalaṁbuddhiḥ paravairāgyam । tadabhyāsātpaunaḥpunyājjāyate yaḥ saṁskāramātrāvaśeṣe vṛttinirodhaḥ sa saṁprajñātādanyo'saṁprajñāta ityarthaḥ । saṁskāramātraśeṣa ityanena mokṣakālīnanirodhavyāvṛttiḥ । asaṁprajñāte vyutthānārthaṁ vṛttisaṁskāramātraṁ tiṣṭhati na tu vṛttiḥ । mokṣe tu cittasyātyantavilayātsaṁskāro'pi na tiṣṭhatīti viśeṣaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
asaṁprajñātaṁ dvidhā vibhajate sūtrābhyām –
bhavaprayayo videhaprakṛtilayānām ॥ 19 ॥
videhānāṁ prakṛtilayānāṁ ca asaṁprajñāto bhavapratyayasaṁjñako bhavati । bhavo janmaiva pratyayaḥ kāraṇaṁ yasyeti vyutpatterityarthaḥ । dehanairapekṣyeṇaiva buddhivṛttimantaḥ siddhā videhā iti vibhūtipāde bhāṣyakārairuktam । te ca mahadādayo devāḥ, teṣāṁ na sādhanānuṣṭhānam ॥ 19 ॥
śraddhāvīryasmṛtisamādhiprajñāpūrvaka itareṣām ॥ 20 ॥
idānīṁ mukhyamupāyapratyayamāha - śraddhāvīryasmṛtisamādhiprajñāpūrvaka itareṣām । itareṣāṁ prakṛtilayāntātiriktānāṁ śraddhādyupāyajanya evāsaṁprajñāto na janmamātrādityarthaḥ । śraddhā āstikyabuddhyā vivekakhyātiyogotkaṇṭhā । sā pratibandhasahasrāṇyapi tiraskṛtya bhogasaṁgādyoginaṁ rakṣati samarthā māteva। tanmūlakaṁ vivekārthino vīrya tadviṣayā dhāraṇā । vīryācca smṛtirdhyānam । dhyānācca samādhirdhyeyasākṣātkāraphalakaḥ । tato dhyeyasākṣātkārarūpaḥ saṁprajñāto bhavati । sa eva tattvasākṣātkāro dharmameghasamādhyavasthāṁ parāṁ kāṣṭhāmāgato rajastamasorunmūlanena pravardhamāno viṣayāvadyadarśīṁ samastaviṣayaparityāgarūpaparavairāgyadvārā asaṁprajñātasyopāyaḥ । sa hi svarūpapratiṣṭho nirālambana iti dik । saṁprajñātasya tu bhavapratyayaviśeṣo na saṁbhavatīti dhāraṇādhyānasamādhīnāṁ saṁprājñātayogasyāntaraṅgatvena teṣāṁ niṣpattau tatrava janmani saṁprajñātāvaśyaṁbhāvāditi bodhyam ॥ 20 ॥
tīvrasaṁvegānāmāsannaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
adhimātratvaṁ atipramāṇatvam । atiśayitatvamiti yāvat । saṁvegaścānuṣṭhāneśraiṣṭhya(śaighrya)mavicchedaśca । tīvrasaṁvegena adhimātrasādhanavatāmāsannaḥ vilambarahitaḥ, yogo bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
āsannatāyāmapi taratamatvarūpaviśeṣahetumāha –
mṛdumadhyādhimātratvāttato'pi viśeṣaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
mṛdutvamalpatā । madhyatvaṁ prasiddham । adhimātratvaṁ ca vyākhyātam । tāni tāni viśeṣaṇatayā bhāṣye vyākhyātāni । tathā ca saṁvegaviśeṣaṇasya tīvratvasya mṛdutvāditraividhyena tato'pyāsannādapi viśeṣa āsannatarāsannatamarūpo yogo bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
yogasyāsannatamatve kimidameva sādhanamutā'nyadapyastītyākāṅkṣāyāmāha –
īśvarapraṇidhānādvā ॥ 23 ॥
vakṣyamāṇāttadviṣayakadhāraṇādhyānasamādhitrayatulyādapyāsannatamo yogastatkālaṁ ca bhavatīśvarānugrahādityarthaḥ । tathā ca pūrvasūtroktamāsannatamayogasādhanaṁ jīvatmayogiparamiti ॥ 23 ॥
īśvaraṁ lakṣayati –
kleśakarmavipākāśayairaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśeṣa īśvaraḥ ॥ 24 ॥
kleśā avidyāsmitārāgadveṣābhiniveśā dvitīyapāde vyākhyeyāḥ । karma dharmādharmau । vipākāḥ karmaphalāni janmāyurbhogāḥ । āśayo jñānādivāsanāḥ । etaiḥ kālatraye'pyaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśeṣa īśvara ityarthaḥ । yadyapi jīvā api kleśādiśūnyatvaṁ eva kleśāderantaḥkaraṇadharmatvāt । tathāpi svāmitvasaṁbandhenaiva kleśādyabhāvasya vivakṣitattvājjīvavyāvṛttiḥ । jīvā hi kleśādiphalayoḥ sukhaduḥkhayorbhoktṛtvātkleśādi-svāmina iti ॥ 24 ॥
niṣedhamukhena lakṣaṇamuktvā vidhimukhenāpi tadāha –
tatra niratiśayaṁ sarvajñabījam ॥ 25 ॥
sarvajñatvānumāpakaṁ yajjñānasya sātiśayatvaṁ tattatreśvare niratiśayaṁ viśrāntamityarthaḥ । tathā ca niratiśayajñāna-īśvara iti lakṣaṇam । atredamanumānam । jñānaṁ kvacitprāptakāṣṭhaṁ sātiśayatvāt, parimāṇavaditi ॥ 25 ॥
tasyaiśvaryaṁ nityamiti pratipādayati –
pūrveṣāmapi guruḥ kālenānavacchedāt ॥ 26 ॥
sa eṣa īśvaraḥ pūrveṣāṁ hiraṇyagarbhādīnāmapi gururantaryāmividhayā jñānacakṣuḥpradaḥ । kālānavacchinnatvānnityatvā…..bhavatītyarthaḥ ।tathā ca śrutiḥ “janmanirodhaṁ pravadanti yasya brahmavādino hi pravadanti nitya”miti । janmanirodhaṁ janmābhāvaṁ īśvarasya ca jīvavadeva ….sati (?)ścinmātrasyaiśvaryavānupādhirasti । ’kāryopādhirayaṁ jīvaḥ kāraṇopādhirīśvaraḥ’ iti smṛteḥ । īśvarasyāśeṣaviśeṣāstu vedāntaśāstre parīkṣitāḥ ॥ 26 ॥
tasya vācakaḥ praṇavaḥ ॥ 27 ॥
tasya īśvarasya mukhyaṁ nāmetyarthaḥ । “adṛṣṭavigraho devo bhāvagrāhyo manomayaḥ । tasyoṅkāraḥ smṛto nāma tenāhūtaḥ prasīdati” iti smṛteḥ ॥ 27 ॥
praṇidhānaṁ lakṣayati –
tajjapastadarthabhāvanam ॥ 28 ॥
praṇavasya japaḥ praṇavārthasya brahmaṇaścintanaṁ dhāraṇādhyānasamādhirūpaṁ praṇidhānamiti śeṣaḥ । ’japaśca praṇavaṁ nityaṁ brahmaviṣṇuśivātmakam । koṭisūryasamaṁ tejo dhyāyedātmani nirmalam’ ityādismṛtibhyaḥ praṇavajapasya prāthamikadhyānāṅgatvamiti । brahmaviṣṇuśivātmakaṁ brahmādīnāmapyantaryāmi । tejaścaitanyam ॥ 28 ॥
īśvarayogasya sāṅkhyayogāpekṣayātiśreṣṭhatvapratipādanārthamutkarṣamāha –
tataḥ pratyaktcetanādhigamo'pyantarāyābhāvaśca ॥ 29 ॥
tata īśvarapraṇidhānāt pratyakcaitanyasya jīvasya sākṣātkāro'pi bhavati । ca śabda āsannatamayogasamuccaye । tathā yogāntarāyāṇāṁ yogavighnānāṁ nivṛttiśca bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 29 ॥
antarāyānāha –
vyādhistyānasaṁśayapramādālasyāviratibhrāntidarśanālabdhabhūmikatvānavasthitatvāni citavikṣepāste'ntarāyāḥ ॥ 30 ॥
yato vyādhyādayaścittavikṣepakā ato yogāntarāyā ityarthaḥ । tatra vyādhiḥ dhāturasakaraṇānāṁ vaiṣamyam । dhātavo vātapittakaphāḥ, rasā āhārapariṇāmāḥ, karaṇāni tvakcakṣurādīni eṣāṁ vaiṣamyaṁ svabhāvapracyavaḥ । styānamakarmaṇyatā । yogānuṣṭhānākṣamatvamiti yāvat । saṁśayo guruśāstroktasādhaneṣūbhayakoṭikaṁ jñānam । pramādo'navadhānam । ālasyaṁ kāyacittayorgurutvādapravṛttiḥ । aviratirviṣayābhilāṣaḥ । bhrāntidarśanaṁ gurvādipramitārthaviparītaniścayaḥ । alabdhabhūmikatvaṁ vakṣyamāṇānāṁ yogabhūmīnāṁ sādhanānuṣṭhāne'pyalābhaḥ । anavasthitatvaṁ yogabhūmilābhe'pi yogabhraṁśa iti ॥ 30 ॥
vyādhyādibhyaścānye'pyantarāyā bhavantītyāha –
duḥkhadaurmanasyāṅgamejayatvaśvāsapraśvāsā vikṣepasahabhuvaḥ ॥ 31 ॥
duḥkhaṁ svato dveṣyam । daurmanasyaṁ cittacāñcalyam । aṅgamejayatvamaṅgakampaḥ । śvāso dehāntarvāyoradhikapraveśaḥ । praśvāso dehādvāyoradhikanirgamaḥ । ete vikṣepasahabhūvo vyādhyādivyavadhānenaiva jāyanta ityarthaḥ । athavā duḥkhādayo vṛtticāñcalyarūpavikṣepodbhavā ityarthaḥ ॥ 31 ॥
sūtradvayoktā antarāyā īśvarapraṇidhānanirasyā iti mukhyakalpābhiprāyeṇaivoktam । tadasaṁbhave tu yatra kutracidaikāgryeṇāpyete balavadabhyāsato nirasanīyā bhavantītyāha –
tatpratiṣedhārthamekatattvābhyāsaḥ ॥ 32 ॥
teṣāmantarāyāṇāṁ pratiṣedhārthamantato yatra kutracidapyekasminnarthe abhyāsaḥ kārya ityarthaḥ ॥ 32 ॥
yogasādhanagato viśeṣa uktaḥ । idanīṁ sthitisādhane śraddhāvīryādyupāyābhyāse vaśīkāradvāreṇāpratibandhahetūnāha sūtraiḥ –
maitrīkaruṇāmuditopekṣāṇāṁ sukhaduḥkhapuṇyāpuṇyaviṣayāṇāṁ bhāvanātaścitaprasādanam ॥ 33 ॥
prasādanaṁ sthitinibandhanamiti tṛtīyasūtrasthenānvayaḥ । anyathā tatra sūtre vāśabdavaiyarthyāt । nibandhanatvaṁ ca sthitihetuśraddhādyapratibandhadvārā sthityabhraṁśahetuttvaṁ bhāṣye vyākhyātatvāt । sukhādiśabdāśca dharmadharmyabhedātsukhitādivācinaḥ । tathā sukhitaduḥkhitadhārmikapāpaśīleṣu yathoktakramaṁ maitryādīnāmutpādāccittasya prasādanaṁ sthitinibandhanaṁ bhavati । rāgadveṣapāpādimalāpasāraṇena cittavaśīkārāt sūtre vakṣyamāṇādityarthaḥ । maitrī sauhārdam । karuṇā nirupādhiḥ paraduḥkhaprahāṇecchā । muditā prītiḥ । upekṣā audāsīnyamiti ॥ 33 ॥
prasādanasya sādhanāntaramāha –
pracchardanavidhāraṇābhyāṁ vā prāṇasya ॥ 34 ॥
prāṇasya pracchardanaṁ vamanaṁ, recanamiti yāvat । vidhāraṇaṁ kumbhakam । taccārthātpūrakānantaraṁ, recakottaraṁ pūrakaṁ vinā vidhāraṇāsambhavāt । prāṇāyāmatayāsya bhāṣye proktatvācca । tathā ca etaddvayātpūraṇagarbhādapi cittaprasādanaṁ kuryādityarthaḥ । athavā pracchardanaṁ recakaṁ vidhāraṇaṁ tu pūrakam । vasiṣṭhasaṁhitāyāṁ nāḍiśuddhyarthaṁ recakapūrakamātrasyāpi prāṇāyāmasyoktatvāditi ॥ 34 ॥
prasādanāpekṣayā sthitinibandhanāntaramāha –
viṣayavatī vā pravṛttirutpannā manasaḥ sthitinibandhanī ॥ 35 ॥
viṣayā gandhādayo divyāḥ pañca viṣayatvenāsyāḥ santīti viṣayavatī pravṛttiḥ prakṛṣṭā sākṣātkārarūpā vṛttiḥ yogaśāstroktaprakāreṇa nāsāgrādau cittadhāraṇādalpakālenaiva jāyate । nāsāgre divyagandhasaṁvidityādibhāṣyavacanāt । sā vā pravṛttirutpannā manaso viṣayāntareṣu vivekaparyanteṣu sthitinibandhinī bhavati । śāstroktārthaikadeśe sākṣātkāreṇārthāntare'pi saṁśayādinirasanataḥ śraddhāvīryādyapratibandhādityarthaḥ ॥ 35 ॥
sthitinibandhanāntaramāha –
viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī ॥ 36 ॥
antaḥkaraṇasya puruṣasya vā yogajasākṣātkārarūpā vṛttirjyotiṣmatītyucyate । sā yataḥ śokanāśakatvādviśokā । ataścāñcalyahetuśokanivṛttyā sā vā pravṛttirmanasaḥ sthitinibandhinītyarthaḥ । nanu ātmasākṣātkāre punaścittasthitiḥ kimarthamapekṣyata iti cet । asaṁprajñātahetuparavairāgyotpādanāyetyavehi । tathā sākṣātkārābhyāsaṁ vinā mithyājñānavāsanānunmūlanena tadunmūlanārthaṁ paramātmani cittasamādhānārthaṁ ceti ॥ 36 ॥
sthitinibandhanāntaramāha –
vītarāgaviṣayaṁ vā cittam ॥ 37 ॥
vītarāgaṁ yatsanakādicittaṁ tadviṣayakaṁ vā yogicittaṁ dṛḍhasthitaye bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 37 ॥
sthitinibandhanāntaramāha –
svapnanidrājñānālambanaṁ vā ॥ 38 ॥
svapnarūpaṁ jñānaṁ svapnajñānaṁ pūrvoktanidrārūpaṁ ca jñānametayoranyatarasya cintakaṁ vā cittaṁ sthitinibandhanaṁ bhavati । prapañcajñāne svapnadṛṣṭyā, saṁsāriṣu suṣuptadṛṣṭyā ca cittasya dṛḍhasthitirbhavatītyarthaḥ । tathā coktam – ’dīrghasvapnamimaṁ viddhi dīrghaṁ vā cittavibhramam । dīrghaṁ vāpi manorājyaṁ saṁsāraṁ raghunandane’tyādi ’brahmādyaṁ sthāvarāntaṁ ca prasuptaṁ yasya māyayā । tasya viṣṇoḥ prasādena yadi kaścitpramucyate ॥ carācaraṁ laya iva prasuptamiha paśyatām । kiṁ mṛṣāvyavahāreṣu na viraktaṁ bhavenmanaḥ’ ityādi ceti ॥ 38 ॥
yathābhimatadhyānādvā ॥ 39 ॥
kiṁ bahunā yadevābhimataṁ hṛdi hariharamūrtyādikaṁ tadevādau dhyāyet । tasmādapi dhyānānniyatasthitikaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ । prasādamārabhyaitāni sthitinibandhanāni cittasaṁskārarūpatvācchāstre parikarmaśabdena paribhāṣitāni ’parikarma prasādhanam’ iti kośāditi ॥ 39 ॥
parikarmaniṣpatteḥ phalarūpaṁ lakṣaṇamāha –
paramāṇuparamamahattvānto'sya vaśīkāraḥ ॥ 40 ॥
asya parikarmitasya cetasaḥ paramāṇumārabhya paramamahatparyanteṣvartheṣu vaśīkāro dhāraṇāyāmapratīghātaḥ kenāpyapratibandha iti yāvat । bhavatīti śeṣaḥ । paramaṁ mahattvameṣāmiti paramamahattvāḥ puruṣāḥ । tadevamabhyāsavairāgyādikaṁ parikarmāntaṁ yogasyāntaraṅgasādhanamuktam । yogadvitayaṁ cāvāntarabhedairuktam ॥ 40 ॥
itaḥ paraṁ yogayormukhyaphalaṁ pādasamāptiparyantaṁ vaktavyam । tatrādau saṁprajñātasya phalamucyate sūtraiḥ –
kṣīṇavṛtterabhijātasyeva maṇergrahītṛgrahaṇagrāhyeṣu tatsthatadañjanatā samāpattiḥ ॥ 41 ॥
kṣīṇavṛtterniruddhadhyeyātiriktavṛtterniṣpannasaṁprajñātayogasyeti yāvat । etacca hetugarbhaviśeṣaṇam । samāpattiriti ca sakṣātkāraparibhāṣā । tathāca yataścittaṁ svata eva sarvārthagrahaṇasamarthaṁ viṣayāntaravyāsaṅgadoṣādeva tatpratibaddhamato vṛttyantaranirodharūpe pratibandhāpagame sati grahītrādiṣu dhyeyeṣu samāpattiḥ sākṣātkārarūpavṛttiḥ cittasya svata eva bhavati । sā ca tatsthatadañjanatārūpā teṣu grahītrādiṣu sthitasya cittasyāśeṣaviśeṣaiḥ samyaktadākāratārūpetyarthaḥ । atra dṛṣṭāntaḥ – abhijātasyeva maṇeriti । yathā'bhijātasya svabhāvato nirmalasya maṇerbāhyamalāpagame sannikṛṣṭastvākāratā tadityarthaḥ । atra grahītā puruṣasāmānyam । grahaṇaṁ ca gṛhyate'neneti vyutpattyā karaṇasāmānyaṁ trayodaśavidham । grāhyaṁ ca sthūlasūkṣmatararūpeṇa trividham । pañcabhūtapañcatanmātraprakṛtirūpam । ato grahītrāditraividhyena yogasya viṣayaḥ sarvavastu saṅgṛhītamiti sāmānyataḥ samāpattiruktā । tatra grahītṛsamāpattau sthūlasūkṣmaviṣayakatvarūpaviśeṣābhāvāt sā ekavidhaiva । grāhyagrahaṇasamāpattyostu viśeṣasattvāttayorviśeṣau tribhiḥ sūtrairvaktavyau । sthūlaṁ kāryaṁ sūkṣmaṁ ca tatkāraṇam । ataḥ sthūlaṁ tanmātrakāryāṇi bhūtāni ahaṅkārakāryāṇīndriyāṇi । prakṛtiparyantaṁ cānyatsarvaṁ sūkṣmam । tadviṣaye ca sthūlasūkṣmasamāpattī pratyekaṁ vakṣyamāṇarītyā hi dvividhe bhavataḥ ॥ 41 ॥
tāsu catasṛṣu samāpattiṣu madhye sthūlasamāpatteḥ savitarkanirvitarkākhyau viśeṣau krameṇa darśayatyādyasūtradvayena –
tatra śabdārthajñānavikalpaiḥ saṁkīrṇā savitarkā samāpattiḥ ॥ 42 ॥
tṛtīyasūtre sūkṣmasamāpattervakṣyamāṇatayā ādyasūtrayoḥ sthūlaviṣayatvaṁ pariśeṣāllabhyate । tatra samāpattisāmānye gauriti śabdo gaurityartho gauriti jñānamityādirūpaiḥ śabdārthajñānānāṁ ye vikalpā abhedabhramāḥ, tadyuktā gavādisthūlasamāpattiḥ viparītatarkayogātsavitarkasaṁjñetyarthaḥ । ata eva tatkālīnayoga eva savikalpa ityapyucyate । vikalpasaṁkalpasaṁkīrṇatvāt । etadvikalpaśūnya eva ca nirvikalpakayoga iti । etena yadādhunikā āhuḥ – yatkiñciddharmapuraskāreṇaiva pravartamāne yogaḥ savikalpakaḥ, nirdharmakaśca nirvikalpaka iti tadaprāmāṇikatvādupekṣaṇīyam । atra ca śabdādyabhedavikalpa āropasāmānyopalakṣakam । evamuttarasūtre'pi ॥ 42 ॥
smṛtipariśuddhau svarūpaśūnyevārthamātranirbhāsā nirvitarkā ॥ 43 ॥
pūrvasūtre yo vikalpa uktastatra śabdasaṅketasmṛtireva bījam । śravaṇamanananididhyāsanairhi samāpattirjāyate । tatra śravaṇaṁ saṁketasmaraṇakāryam । saṅketaśca śabdārthayorvikalpitābhedamātra ityataḥ saṅketasmṛtijanye śābdabodhe'pi tayorabheda upanītattvādbhāsate । tataśca śravaṇakārye manane nididhyāsane prāthamikasākṣātkāre ca bhāsate । upanayasāmyāt । yadā tu dhyeyāveśavaśāttasyā vikalparūpāyāḥ saṅketasmṛteḥ pariśuddhirapagamo bhavati samāpattiśca svarūpaśūnyeva jāyamānā bhavati tadā śabdajñānayorasphuraṇenābhedāropāsaṁbhavāt arthamātranirbhāsā dhyeyārthamātrāvagāhinī vikalpaśūnyā sthūlasamāpattirnirvitarkasaṁjñetyarthaḥ । iyaṁ samāpattiḥ paraṁ pratyakṣamucyate avidyāleśenāpyasaṁparkāt । pūvasūtroktā ca samāpattiraparaṁ pratyakṣamavidyāleśasattvāditi ॥ 43 ॥
sthūlaviṣaye samāpattidvaividhyaṁ pradarśya sūkṣme'pi viṣaye tasyā dvaividhyamatidiśati –
etayaiva savicārā nirvicārā ca sūkṣmaviṣayā vyākhyātā ॥ 44 ॥
etayaiva savitarkanirvitarkarūpayā sthūlaviṣayakasamāpattyā sūkṣmaviṣayāpi savicāranirvicārarūpā samāpattidvayī vyākhyātā । anyoparāgānuparāgasāmyenetyarthaḥ । atra hi vikalpatacchūnyatvayornātideśaḥ, sthūlaviṣayiṇyāṁ nirvitarkākhyapūrvabhūmikāyāṁ tyaktasya yathoktavikalpasya sūkṣmaviṣayiṇyāmuttarabhūmikāyāmasaṁbhavāditi । tatra sthūlarūpaṁ yatkāryaṁ taduparāgeṇa sūkṣme samāpattiḥ savicārā kāryakāraṇavicāraghaṭitattvāt । taduttarotpadyamānā ca kevalasūkṣmaviṣayiṇī nirvicāreti vibhāgaḥ ॥ 44 ॥
nanu sūkṣmo viṣayaḥ kiyatparyanta ityapekṣāyāmāha –
sūkṣmaviṣayatvaṁ cāliṅgaparyavasānam ॥ 45 ॥
sūkṣmaścāsau viṣayaśceti sūkṣmaviṣayaḥ । aliṅgākhyaprakṛtiparyantam । na tu, puruṣaḥ sūkṣma ityarthaḥ । ato'tra sūkṣmatvaṁ tattvāntaraprakṛtitvam । na ca jalādicatuṣṭaye'tivyāptiḥ, bhūtānāmuttarottarabhūteṣvādhārakāraṇamātratvāt । tanmātrāṇāmeva bhūtopādānatvāt । anyathāṣṭaprakṛtisiddhāntavirodhāditi ॥ 45 ॥
vitarkavicārasūtreṇa pūrvaṁ saṁprajñātasyāvāntaravibhāga eva kṛtaḥ, natu saṁprajñātasāmānyaṁ lakṣitamato yathoktasamāpattyākhyakāryamukhena sabījaparibhāṣāpūrvakaṁ saṁprajñātasāmānyalakṣaṇamāha –
tā eva sabījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 46 ॥
tā eva grahītṛgrāhyeṣu samāpattaya eva sabījaḥ samādhiḥ saṁprajñātayoga ityarthaḥ । samāpattirūpasākṣātkārahetutvād yogasya samāpattitvaṁ kāryakāraṇābhedenoktam । ānandasya buddhidharmatvenānandasamāpattergrahaṇasamāpattāveva praveśaḥ । samāpattīnāṁ duḥkhanivṛttibījasaṁskārahetutvāt taddhetorvṛttinirodharūpasya yogasyāpi sabījatvam । samādhiśabdaścāṅgāṅginorabhedena yoge prayuktaḥ ॥ 46 ॥
uktāsu samāpattiṣu nirvicārakāṣṭhāyāḥ kañcanotkarṣamāha –
nirvicāravaiśāradye'dhyātmaprasādaḥ ॥ 47 ॥
dhyeyagatāśeṣaviśeṣapratibimbodgrāhiṇī niścalaikāgratā cittasya vaiśāradyam ।nirvicārasamāpattereva vaiśāradye sati adhyātmaprasādo bhavati । ātmani buddhau vartata ityadhyātmam । tādṛśaprasādo nairmalyaṁ bhavati। yena prasādena puruṣādisākṣātkārastadyogaṁ vināpi bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 47 ॥
pūrvokte sabījayoge jāyamānāyāḥ samāpattyākhyaprajñāyā anvarthā tāntrikīṁ saṁjñāmāha –
ṛtaṁbharā tatra prajñā ॥ 48 ॥
tatra sabījayoge jāyamānā prajñā samāpattyākhyā ṛtambharasaṁjñā bhavati । ṛtasya satyasyaiva bharaṇāt viṣayatvena dhāraṇamityarthaḥ । savitarkaprajñāyāśca vikalpasatve'pi ṛtambharajātīyatvena saṁgrahaḥ । athavā tataḥ kiṁ tatrāha । ṛtambharā tatra prajñā । tatrādhyātmaprasāde jāyamānā ātmasākṣātkārarūpā prajñā ṛtambharetyarthaḥ ॥ 48 ॥
nanu āgamānumānābhyāmeva pramāṇābhyāmarthatatvaṁ gṛhyatāmalaṁ taduttaraṁ yogenetyāśaṅkāyāmāha –
śrutānumānaprajñābhyāmanyaviṣayā viśeṣārthatvāt ॥ 49 ॥
sā tu yogasāmānyajā prajñā śravaṇamananābhyāmatiriktaviṣayā viśeṣārthatvāt । viśeṣaviṣayatvādityarthaḥ । śabdānumāne hi sāmānyamātraviṣayake bhavataḥ sāmānyapuraskāreṇaiva saṁketagrahāt, vyāptigrahācca । na tu saṁketagrāhyānavacchedakaviśeṣagrāhake । yogajaprajñā tu tadgrāhiketi । ato'nadhigatādhigantṛtvādyogajaprajñāyāḥ prāmāṇyam । nanu puruṣe viśeṣābhāvāttatprajñā kiṁviśeṣagrahaṇena saphalāsyāditicenna । antataḥ svasvopādhipratibimbānāmevātītānāgatavartamānānāṁ bhogarūpāṇāṁ muktāmuktasakalapuruṣeṣvanyonyaṁ viśeṣatvāditi ॥ 49 ॥
nanu tathāpi prajñotpattiparyantaṁ saṁprajñātayogāpekṣā prajñotpattyantaraṁ saṁprajñātaparaṁparāyā kiṁ phalamityākāṅkṣāyāmāha –
tajjaḥ saṁskāro'nyasaṁskārapratibandhī ॥ 50 ॥
tajjaḥ ekāgrasākṣātkāradhārārūpayā samādhiprajñayā janitaḥ saṁskāro'nyeṣāṁ vyutthānasaṁskārāṇāṁ pratibandhī smṛtyākhyakāryavirodhītyarthaḥ । tathā ca samādhiparaṁparayā samādhiprajñāsaṁskāradārḍhyena vyutthānasaṁskārāśayasyābhibhavaḥ krameṇa bhavati । tataśca duḥkhahetuvyutthānasaṁskārābhibhavarūpe prajñākṛtye samāpte prajñāyāmāpyalamiti bhāvaḥ । mokṣānyathānupapattyaivāvidyāsaṁskārasya vidyāsaṁskāradārḍhyena nāśaḥ siddhyati । avidyāsaṁskārātiriktānāṁ ca saṁskārāṇāṁ cittanāśenaiva nāśo na tu saṁskārāntarasya tannāśakatvaṁ kalpyate, gauravāt । saṁskārāṇāṁ virodhisaṁskārābhibhāvakatvaṁ tu loke bahudhā siddhamataḥ saṁskārapratibandhītyeva sūtritaṁ na tu tannāśaka iti ॥ 50 ॥
kṣīṇavṛtterabhijātasyetyādisūtraiḥ saṁprajñātasya phalaṁ prapañcitam । asaṁprajñātasya phalamucyate –
tasyāpi nirodhe sarvanirodhānnirbījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 51 ॥
pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñāte tāvatprajñaiva nirudhyate, prajñāsaṁskārasya tānavamātram । evaṁ krameṇa tasyāpi prajñākṛtasaṁskārasyāpyasaṁprajñātaparamparayā nirodhe atyantābhibhave jāyamāne caramāsaṁprajñātavyaktirnirbījayogasya parā kāṣṭhā bhavati । apunarutthānetyarthaḥ । saiva ca mahānidrā paramo moha iti gīyate । ayaṁ ca yogena svecchayā mokṣaḥ śrutiṣūkto bahūnām । tadānīṁ ca puruṣārthasamāptyā cittasyātyantalayāttadāśritānāṁ dagdhasaṁskārabhāvā(?)nāṁ nāśa iti । sarvanirodhāditi nirbījatve heturuktaḥ, yataḥ prajñā tatsaṁskāraścātyantaṁ vilāpitāvato duḥkhabījaiḥ saṁskārādibhiḥ śūnyatvānnirbīja iti । pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñāteṣu tu nirbījajātīyatayā nirbījatvavyavahāraḥ । atra sarvavṛttinirodhasya saṁprajñātakṛtākhilasaṁskāronmūlakatvavacanāttasya saṁskārajanakatvaṁ siddhyati । krameṇaiva hyasaṁprajñātaparamparayā caramāsaṁprajñāte niḥśeṣataḥ saṁprajñātasaṁskāradāho vaktavyaḥ । krameṇaiva hyasaṁprajñātaparamparayā cāramāsaṁprajñāte niḥśeṣataḥ saṁprajñātasaṁskāradāho vaktavyaḥ । tatra pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñātānāṁ vinaṣṭatayā saṁskārātiriktaṁ dvāraṁ na saṁbhavati । tathā uttarottarāsaṁprajñāteṣu kālavṛddhyāpi pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñātānāṁ saṁskārajanakatvaṁ sidhyati । saṁskāravṛddhyaiva kālavṛddhyaicityāditi । nanu jñānena prārabdhātiriktākhilakarmakṣaye prārabdhasya bhogena samāptyā karmābhāvādevāpunarjanmarūpo mokṣo bhaviṣyati kimarthamasaṁprajñātenākhilasaṁskāronmūlanamapekṣyata iti cet । prārabdhasyātikramaṇājjhaṭiti mokṣārthamityavehi । bhogavāsanārūpasya hi sahakāriṇa ucchede sati prārabdhamapi karmaphalakṣamaṁ bhavatīti dik ॥ 51 ॥
iti śrībhāvāgaṇeśabhaṭṭakṛtāyāṁ yogadīpikāyāḥ pātañjalavṛttau samādhipādaḥ prathamaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
