śrīmadbhojadevakṛtaḥ

atha yogānuśāsanam ॥ 1 ॥
anena sūtreṇa śāstrasya sambandhabhidheyaprayojanānyākhyāyante। atha śabdo'dhikāradyotako maṅgalārthakaśca। yogo yuktiḥ samādhanam। yuj samādhau anuśiṣyate vyākhyāyate lakṣaṇabhedopāyaphalairyena tadanuśāsanam। yogasyānuśāsanaṁ yogānuśāsanam। tadā śāstraparisamāpteradhikṛtaṁ boddhavyamityarthaḥ। tatra śāstrasya vyutpādyatayā yogaḥ sasādhanaḥ saphalo'bhidheyaḥ। tadavyutpādanañca phalam। vyutpāditasya yogasya kaivalyaṁ phalam। śāstrābhidheyayoḥ pratipādyapratipādakabhāvalakṣaṇaḥ sambandhaḥ। abhidheyasya yogasya tatphalasya ca kaivalyasya sādhyasādhanabhāvaḥ। etaduktaṁ bhavati vyutpādyasya yogasya sādhanāni śāstreṇa pradarśyante tatsādhanasiddo yogaḥ kaivalyākhyaṁ phalamutpādayati।
tatra ko yogaḥ ityāha –
yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
cittasya nirmalasattvapariṇāmarūpasya yā vṛttayo'ṅgāṅgibhāvapariṇāmarūpāstāsāṁ nirodho bahirmukhatayā pariṇativicchedādantarmukhatayā pratilomapariṇāmena svakāraṇe layo yoga ityākhyāyate। sa ca nirodhaḥ sarvāsāṁ cittabhūmīnāṁ sarvaprāṇināṁ dharmaḥ kadācit kasyāñcit buddhibhūmāvāvirbhavati। tāśca kṣiptaṁ mūḍhaṁ vikṣiptamekāgraṁ niruddhamiti cittasya bhūmayaścittasyāvasthāviśeṣāḥ। tatra kṣiptaṁ rajasa udrekādasthiraṁ bahirmukhatayā sukhaduḥkhādiviṣayeṣu vikalpiteṣu vyavahiteṣu saṁnihiteṣu vā rajasā preritaṁ। tacca sadaiva daityadānavavādīnām। mūḍhaṁ tamasa udrekākṛtyākṛtya vibhāgamantareṇa krodhādibhiḥ viruddhakṛtyeṣveva niyamitaṁ tacca sadaiva rakṣaḥ piśācādīnām। vikṣiptaṁ tu sattvodrekādvaiśiṣṭayena parihṛtya duḥkhasādhanaṁ sukhasādhaneṣveva śabdādiṣu pravṛttaṁ tacca sadaiva devānām। etaduktaṁ bhavati rajasā pravṛttirūpaṁ tamasā parāpakāraniyataṁ sattvena sukhamayaṁ cittaṁ bhavati। etāstisraścittāvasthāḥ samādhāvanupayoginyaḥ। ekāgraniruddharūpe dve ca sattvotkarṣādyathottaramavasthitatvāt samādhāvupayogaṁ bhajete। sattvādikramavyutkrame tu ayamabhiprāyaḥ dvayorapi rajastamasoratyantaheyatve'pyetadarthaṁ rajasaḥ prathamamupādānaṁ yāvanna pravṛttirdarśitā tāvannivṛttirnaṁ śakyate darśayitumiti dvayorvyatyayena pradarśanam। sattvasya tvetadarthaṁ paścātpradarśanaṁ yattasyotkarṣeṇottare dve bhūmī yogopayoginyāviti। anayordvayorekāgraniruddhayorbhūmyoryaścittasyaikāgratārūpaḥ pariṇāmaḥ sa yoga ityuktaṁ bhavati। ekāgre bahirvṛttinirodhaḥ। niruddhe ca sarvāvṛttīnāṁ saṁskārāṇāṁ ca pravilaya ityanayoreva bhūmyoryogasya sambhavaḥ।
idānīṁ sūtrakāraścittavṛttinirodhapadāni vyākhyātukāmaḥ prathamaṁ cittapadaṁ vyācaṣṭe –
tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe'vasthānam ॥ 3 ॥
draṣṭuḥ puruṣasya tasminkāle svarūpe cinmātratāyāmavasthānaṁ sthitirbhavati। ayamarthaḥ utpannavivekakhyāteścitsaṁkramābhāvāt kartṛtvābhimānanivṛttau procchannapariṇāmāyāṁ buddhau cā'tmānaḥ svarūpeṇāvasthānaṁ sthitirbhavati।
vyutthānadaśāyāntu tasya kiṁ rūpam ityāha –
vṛttisārupyamitaratra ॥ 4 ॥
itaratra yogādanyasminkāle vṛttayo yā vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇāstābhiḥ sārūpyaṁ tadrapūtvam। ayamarthaḥ yādṛśyo vṛttayo duḥkhamohasukhādyātmikāḥ prādurbhavanti tādṛgrūpa eva saṁvedyate vyavahartṛbhiḥ puruṣaḥ। tadevaṁ yasminnekāgratayā pariṇate cittiśakteḥ svasmin svarūpe pratiṣṭhānaṁ bhavati yasmiṁścendriyavṛttidvāreṇa viṣayākāreṇa pariṇate puruṣastadrapākāra eva paribhāvyate yathā jalataraṅgeṣu calatsu candraścalanniva pratibhāsate saccittam।
vṛttipadaṁ vyākhyātumāha –
vṛttayaḥ pañcatayyaḥ kliṣṭākliṣṭāḥ ॥ 5 ॥
vṛttayaścittapariṇāmaviśeṣāḥ vṛttisamudāyalakṣaṇasyāvayavino yā avayavabhūtā vṛttayastadapekṣayā tadapyapratyayaḥ। etaduktaṁ bhavati pañca vṛttayaḥ kīdṛśyaḥ kliṣṭā akliṣṭā kleśairvakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇairākrāntāḥ kliṣṭāḥ। tadviparītā akliṣṭāḥ।
etā eva pañca vṛttayaḥ saṁkṣipyoddiśyante –
pramāṇaviparyayavikalpanidrāsmṛtaya ॥ 6 ॥
āsāṁ krameṇa lakṣaṇamāha –
pratyakṣānumānāgamāḥ pramāṇāni ॥ 7 ॥
atrātiprasiddhatvāt pramāṇānāṁ śāstrakāreṇa bhedalakṣaṇenaiva gatatvāt lakṣaṇasya pṛthaktallakṣaṇaṁ na kṛtam। pramāṇalakṣaṇantu avisaṁvādijñānaṁ pramāṇamiti। indriyadvāreṇa bāhyavastūparāgāccittasya tadviṣayasāmānyaviśeṣātmano'rthasya viśeṣāvadhāraṇapradhānā vṛttiḥ pratyakṣam। gṛhītasambandhālliṅgāt liṅgini sāmānyātmanā'dhyavasāyo'numānam। āptavacanaṁ āgamaḥ।
evaṁ pramāṇarūpāṁ vṛttiṁ vyākhyāya viparyyarūpāmāha –
viparyayo mithyājñānamatadrūpapratiṣṭham ॥ 8 ॥
atathābhūte'rthe tathotpadyānaṁ jñānaṁ viparyayaḥ। yathā śuktikāyāṁ rajatajñānam। atadrūpapratiṣṭhamiti। tasyārthasya yadrūyaṁ tasminrūpe na pratitiṣṭhati tasyārthasya yatpāramārthikaṁ rūpaṁ na tatpratibhāsayatīti yāvat। saṁśayo'pyatadrūpapratiṣṭhatvānmithyājñānam। yathā sthāṇurvā puruṣo veti।
vikalpavṛttiṁ vyākhyātumāha –
śabdajñānānupātī vastuśūnyo vikalpaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
śabdajanitaṁ jñānaṁ śabdajñānaṁ tadanu patituṁ śīlaṁ yasya sa śabdajñānānupātī। vastunastathātvamanapekṣamāṇo yo'dhyavasāyaḥ sa vikalpa ityucyate। yathā puruṣasya caitanyaṁ svarūpamiti। atra devattasya kambala iti śabdajanite jñāne ṣaṣṭhyā yo'dhyavasito bhedastamihāvidyamānamapi samāropya pravarttate'dhyavasāyaḥ। vastutastu caitanyameva puruṣaḥ।
nidrāṁ vyākhyātumāha –
abhāvaprayayālambanā vṛttirnidrā ॥ 10 ॥
abhāvapratyaya ālambanaṁ yasyā vṛtteḥ sā tathoktā। tadduktaṁ bhavati yā santatamudriktatvāttamasaḥ samastaviṣayaparityāgena pravarttate vṛttiḥ sā nidrā। tasyāśca sukhamahamasvāpsamiti smṛtidarśanāt smṛteścānubhavavyatirekeṇānupapattervṛttitvam।
smṛtiṁ vyākhyātumāha –
anubhūtaviṣayāsaṁpramoṣaḥ smṛtiḥ ॥ 11 ॥
pramāṇenānubhūtasya viṣayasya yo'yamasaṁpramoṣaḥ saṁskāradvāreṇa buddhāvārohaḥ sā smṛtiḥ। tatra pramāṇaviparyyavikalpā jāgradavasthā। ta eva tadanubhavabalāt pratyakṣāyamāṇāḥ svapnāḥ। nidrā tu asaṁvedyamānaviṣayā। smṛtiśca pramāṇaviparyayavikalpanidrānimittā।
evaṁ vṛttīrvyākhyāya sopāyaṁ nirodhaṁ vyākhyātumāha –
abhyāsavairāgyābhyāṁ tannirodhaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
abhyāsavairāgye vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇe tābhyāṁ prakāśavṛttiniyamarūpā yā vṛttayastāsāṁ nirodho bhavatītyuktaṁ bhavati। tāsāṁ vinivṛttabāhyabhiniveśānāṁ antarmukhatayā svakāraṇa eva citte śaktirūpatayā'vasthānam। tatra viṣayadoṣadarśanajena vairāgyeṇa tadvaimukhyamutpādyate। abhyāsena ca sukhajanakaśāntapravāhapradarśanadvāreṇa dṛḍhaṁ sthairyyamutpādyate। itthaṁ tābhyāṁ bhavati cittavṛttinirodhaḥ।
abhyāsaṁ vyākhyātumāha –
tatra sthitau yatnā'bhyāsaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
vṛttirahitasya cittasya svarūpaniṣṭhaḥ pariṇāmaḥ sthitistasyāṁ yatra utsāhaḥ punaḥ punastattvena cetasi niveśanamabhyāsa ityucyate।
tasyaiva viśeṣamāha –
sa tu dīrghakālanairantaryasatkārāsevito dṛḍhabhūmiḥ ॥ 14 ॥
bahukālaṁ nairantaryyeṇa ādarātiśayena ca sevyamāno dṛḍha़bhūmiḥ sthiro bhavati। dārḍhyāya prabhavatītyarthaḥ।
vairāgyasya lakṣaṇamāha –
dṛṣṭānuśravikaviṣayavitṛṣṇasya vaśīkārasaṁjñā vairāgyam ॥ 15 ॥
dvividho hi viṣayo dṛṣṭa ānuśravikaśca। dṛṣṭa ihaivopalabhyamānaḥ śabdādiḥ। devalokādāvānuśravikaḥ। anuśrūyate gurumukhādityanuśravo vedastatsamadhigata ānuśravikaḥ tayordvayorapi viṣayayoḥ pariṇāmavirasatvadarśanādvigatagarddhasya yā vaśīkārasaṁjñā mamaite vaśyā nāhameteṣāṁ vaśya iti yo'yaṁ vimarṣaṁstadbairāgyamucyate।
tasyaiva viśeṣamāha –
tatparaṁ puruṣakhyāterguṇavetṛṣṇyam ॥ 16 ॥
tadvairāgyaṁ paraṁ prakṛṣṭaṁ prathamaṁ vairāgyaṁ viṣayaviṣayaṁ। dvitīyaṁ guṇaviṣayamutpannaguṇapuruṣavivekakhyātereva bhavati nirodhasamādheratyantānukūlatvāt।
evaṁ yogasya svarūpamuktvā saṁprajñātasvarūpaṁ bhedamāha –
vitarkavicārānandāsmitārūpānugamātsaṁprajñātaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
samādhiriti śeṣaḥ। samyaksaṁśayaviparyayarahitatvena prajñāyate prakarṣeṇa jñāyate bhāvyasya svarūpaṁ yena sa saṁprajñātaḥ samādhirbhāvanāviśeṣaḥ। sa vitarkādibhedāccaturvidhaḥ savitarkaḥ savicāraḥ sānandaḥ sāsmitaśca। bhāvanā bhāvyasya viṣayāntaraparihāreṇa cetasi punaḥ punarniveśanam। bhāvyaṁ ca dvividham īśvarastattvāni ca। tānyapi dvividhāni jaḍa़.ājaḍa़bhedāt। jaḍa़.āni caturviṁśatiḥ। ajaḍa़ḥ puruṣaḥ। tatra yadā mahābhūtendriyāṇi sthūlāni viṣayatvenā''dāya pūrvāparānusaṁdhānena śabdārthollekhasaṁbhedena ca bhāvanā kriyate tadā savitarkaḥ samādhiḥ। asminnevā''lambane pūrvāparānusandhānaśabdollekhaśūnyatvena yadā bhāvanā pravarttate tadā nirvitarkaḥ। tanmātrāntaḥkaraṇalakṣaṇaṁ sūkṣmaviṣayamālambya tasya deśakāladharmāvacchedena yadā bhāvanā pravarttate tadā savicāraḥ। tasminnevāvalambane deśakāladharmāvacchedaṁ vinā dhārmimātrāvabhāsitvena bhāvanā kriyamāṇā nirvicāra ityucyate। evaṁ paryantaḥ samādhirgrāhyasamāpattiriti vyapadiśyate। yadā tu rajastamoleśānuviddhamantaḥkaraṇasattvaṁ bhāvyate tadā guṇabhāvāccitiśakteḥ sukhaprakāśamayasya sattvasya bhāvyamānasyodrekāt sānandaḥ samādhirbhavati। asminneva samādhau ye baddhadhṛtayastattvāntaraṁ pradhānapuruṣarūpaṁ na paśyanti te vigatadehāhaṅkāratvādvidehaśabdavācyāḥ। iyaṁ grahaṇasamāpattiḥ। tataḥ paraṁ rajastamoleśānabhibhūtaṁ śuddhasattvamālambanīkṛtya yā pravarttate bhāvanā tasyāṁ grāhyasya sattvasya nyagbhavāt citiśakterudrekāt sattāmātrāvaśeṣatvena samādhiḥ sāsmita ityucyate। na cāhaṅkārāsmitayorabhedaḥ śaṅkanīyaḥ। yato yatrāntaḥ karaṇamahamiti ullekhena viṣayān vedayate so'haṅkāraḥ। yatrāntarmukhatayā pratilomapariṇāme prakṛtilīne cetasi sattāmātraṁ avabhāti sā'smitā। asminneva samādhau ye kṛtaparitoṣā paraṁ paramātmānaṁ puruṣaṁ na paśyanti teṣāṁ cetasi svakāraṇe layamupāgate prakṛtilayā ityucyante। ye paraṁ puruṣaṁ jñātvā bhāvanāyāṁ pravarttante teṣāmiyaṁ vivekakhyātirgrahītṛsamāpattirityucyate। tatra saṁprajñāte samādhau catasro'vasthāḥ śaktirūpatayā'vatiṣṭhante। tatraikaikasyāstyāga uttarottarā iti caturavastho'syaṁ saṁprajñātaḥ samādhiḥ।
asaṁprajñātamāha –
virāmapratyayābhyāsapūrvaḥ saṁskāraśeṣo'nyaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
viramyate'neneti virāmo vitarkādicintātyāgaḥ virāmaścāsau pratyayaśceti virāmapratyayastasyābhyāsaḥ paunaḥpunyena cetasi niveśanam। tatra yā kācit vṛttirullasati tasyā neti netītinairantaryeṇa paryudasanaṁ tatpūrvaḥ saṁprajñātasamādheḥ saṁskāraśeṣo'nyastadvilakṣaṇo'saṁprajñāta ityarthaḥ। na tatra kiñcidvedyam saṁprajñāyate iti asaṁprajñāto nirbījaḥ samādhiḥ। iha caturvidhaścittasya pariṇāmaḥ। vyutthānaṁ samādhiprārambho ekāgratā nirodhaśca। tatra kṣiptamūḍha़.e cittabhūmī vyutthānaṁ। vikṣiptābhūmiḥ satvodrekāt samādhiprārambhaḥ। niruddhaikāgrate ca paryyantabhūmī। pratipariṇāmañca saṁskārāḥ। tatra vyutthānajanitāḥ saṁskārāḥ samādhiprārambhajaiḥ saṁskāraiḥ pratyāhanyante। tajjāścaikāgratājaiḥ nirodhajanitairekāgratājāḥ saṁskārāḥ svarūpañca hanyante। yathā suvarṇasamvalitaṁ dhmāyamānaṁ sīsakamātmānaṁ suvarṇamalañca nirdahati। evamekāgratā janitān saṁskārān nirodhajāḥ svātmānañca nirdahanti।
tadevaṁ yogasya svarūpaṁ bhedaṁ saṁkṣepeṇopāyañca abhidhāya vistararūpeṇopāyaṁ yogābhyāsapradarśanapūrvakaṁ vaktumupakramate –
bhavaprayayo videhaprakṛtilayānām ॥ 19 ॥
videhā prakṛtilayāśca vitarkādibhūmikāsūtre vyākhyātāḥ teṣāṁ samādhirbhavapratyayaḥ bhavaḥ saṁsāraḥ sa eva pratyayaḥ kāraṇaṁ yasya sa bhavapratyayaḥ। ayamarthaḥ adhimātrāntarbhūtā eva te saṁsāre tathāvidhasamādhibhājo bhavanti। teṣāṁ paratattvādarśanādyogābhāso'yam। ataḥ paratattvajñāne tadbhāvanāyāñca muktikāmena mahānyatno vidheya ityetadarthamupadiṣṭam।
tadanyeṣāntu –
śraddhāvīryasmṛtisamādhiprajñāpūrvaka itareṣām ॥ 20 ॥
videhaprakṛtilayavyatiriktānāṁ yogināṁ śraddhādipūrvakaḥ śraddhādayaḥ pūrve upāyā yasya sa śraddhādipūrvakaḥ। te ca śraddhādayaḥ kramādupāyopeyabhāvena pravarttamānāḥ saṁprajñātasamādherupāyatāṁ pratipadyante। tatra śraddhā yogaviṣaye cetasaḥ prasādaḥ। vīryyamutsāhaḥ। smṛtiranubhūtāsaṁpramodhaḥ। samādhirekāgratā। prajñā prajñātavyavivekaḥ। tatraśraddhāvato vīryyaṁ jāyate yogaviṣaye utsāhavān bhavati। sotsāhasya ca pāścātyānubhūtiṣu bhūmiṣu smṛtirutpadyate tatsmaraṇācca cetaḥ samādhīyate। samāhitacittaśca bhāvyaṁ samyagvivekena jānāti। ta ete saṁprajñātasya samādherupāyāḥ। tasyābhyāsāt parācca vairāgyāt bhavatyasaṁprajñātaḥ।
uktopāyavatāṁ yogināṁ upāyabhedādbhedānāha –
tīvrasaṁvegānāmāsannaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
samādhilābhaḥ iti śeṣaḥ। saṁvegaḥ kriyāheturdṛḍha़taraḥ saṁskāraḥ। sa tīvro yeṣāmadhimātropāyānāṁ teṣāmāsannaḥ samādhilābhaḥ samādhiphalā''sannaṁ bhavati śīghrameva sampadyata ityarthaḥ।
ke te tīvrasaṁvegā ityata āha –
mṛdumadhyādhimātratvāttato'pi viśeṣaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
tebhya upāyebhyo mṛdvādibhedabhinnebhya upāyavatāṁ viśeṣo bhavati। mṛdurmadhyo'dhimātra ityupāyabhedāḥ। te pratyekaṁ mṛdusaṁvedamadhyasaṁvegatīvrasaṁvegabhedāt tridhā। tadbhedena ca navayogino bhavanti। mṛdūpāyomṛdusaṁvego madhyasaṁvegastīvrasaṁvegaśca। madhyopāyomṛtyusaṁvego madhyasaṁvegastīvrasaṁvegaśca। adhimātropāyomṛdusaṁvego madhyasaṁvegastīvrasaṁvegaśca। adhimātropāye tīvrasaṁvege ca mahān yatnaḥ karttavya iti bhedopadeśaḥ।
idānīmetadupāyavilakṣaṇaṁ sugamamupāyāntaraṁ darśayitumāha –
īśvarapraṇidhānādvā ॥ 23 ॥
īśvaro vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇaḥ tatra praṇidhānaṁ bhaktiviśeṣo viśiṣṭamupāsanaṁ sarvakriyāṇāṁ tatrārpaṇaṁ viṣayasukhādikaṁ phalamanicchan sarvāḥ kriyāstasminparamagurāvarpayati tat praṇidhānaṁ samādhestatphalalābhasya ca prakṛṣṭa upāyaḥ।
īśvarasya praṇidhānāt samādhilābha ityuktaṁ tatreśvarasya svarūpaṁ pramāṇaṁ prabhāvaṁ vācakaṁ upāsanākramaṁ tatphalañca krameṇa vaktumāha –
kleśakarmavipākāśayairaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśeṣa īśvaraḥ ॥ 24 ॥
kliśnantīti kleśā avidyādayo vakṣyamāṇāḥ। vihitapratiṣiddhavyāmiśrarūpāṇi karmāṇi। vipacyanta iti vipākāḥ karmaphalāni jātyāyurbhogāḥ। ā phalavipākāccittabhūmau śerata ityāśayā vāsanākhyāḥ saṁskārāstairaparāmṛṣṭastriṣvapi kāleṣu ca saṁspṛṣṭaḥ। puruṣaviśeṣaḥ anyebhyaḥ puruṣebhyo viśiṣyata iti viśeṣaḥ। īśvara īśanaśīla icchāmātreṇa sakalajagaduddharaṇakṣamaḥ। yadyapi sarveṣāmātmanāṁ kleśādisparśo nāsti tathāpi cittagatāsteṣāmapadiśyate। yathā yoddhṛgatau jayaparājayau svāminaḥ। asya tu triṣvapi kāleṣu tathāvidho'pi kleśādiparāmarśo nāsti। ataḥ sa vilakṣaṇa eva bhagavānīśvaraḥ। tasya ca tathāvidhamaiśvaryyamanādeḥ sattvotkarṣāt। tasya sattvotkarṣaśca prakṛṣṭājjñānādeva। na ca anayorjñānaiśvaryyayoritaretarāśrayatvaṁ parasparānapekṣatvāt। te dve jñānaiśvarye īśvarasattve vartamāne anādibhūte tena ca tathāvidhena sattvena tasyānādireva sambandhaḥ prakṛtipuruṣasaṁyogaviyogayorīśvarecchāvyatirekeṇānupapatteḥ yathetareṣāṁ prāṇināṁ sukhaduḥkhamohātmakatayā pariṇataṁ cittaṁ nirmale sāttvike dharmātmaprakhye pratisaṁkrāntaṁ cicchāyāsaṁkrānte saṁvedyaṁ bhavati naivamīśvarasya tasya kevala eva sāttvikaḥ pariṇāma utkarṣavānanādisaṁbandhena bhogyatayā vyavasthitaḥ ataḥ puruṣāntaravilakṣaṇatayā sa eveśvaraḥ। muktātmānāṁ tu punaḥ kleśādiyogastaistaiḥ śāstroktairupāyairnivartitaḥ। asya punaḥ sarvadaiva tathāvidhatvānna muktātmatulyatvam। na ceśvarāṇāmanekatvaṁ teṣāṁ tulyatve bhinnābhiprāyatvātkāryasyaivānupapatteḥ। utkarṣāpakarṣayuktatve ca evotkṛṣṭaḥ sa eveśvarastatraiva kāṣṭhāprāptatvādaiśvaryasya।
evamīśvarasya svarūpamabhidhāya pramāṇamāha –
tatra niratiśayaṁ sarvajñabījam ॥ 25 ॥
tasminbhagavati sarvajñatvasya yadbījamatītānāgatādigrahaṇasyālpatvaṁ mahattvaṁ ca mūlatvādbījamiva bījaṁ tattatra niratiśayaṁ kāṣṭhāṁ prāptam। dṛṣṭā hyalpatvamahattvādīnāṁ dharmāṇāṁ sātiśayānāṁ kāṣṭhāprāptiḥ। yathā paramāṇābalpatvasyā''kāśe paramamahattvasya। evaṁ jñānādayo'pi cittadharmāstāratamyena paridṛśyamānāḥ kvacinniratiśayatāmāsādayanti। yatra caite niratiśayāḥ sa īśvaraḥ। yadyapi sāmānyamātre'numānamātrasya paryavasitatvānna viśeṣāvagatiḥ saṁbhavati tathā'pi śāstrādasya sarvajñatvādayo viśeṣā avagantavyāḥ। tasya svaprayojanābhāve kathaṁ prakṛtipuruṣayoḥ saṁyogaviyogāvāpādayatīti nā''śaṅkanīyaṁ tasya kāruṇikatvādbhūtānugraha eva prayojanam। kalpapralayamahāpralayeṣu niḥśeṣānsaṁsāriṇa uddhariṣyāmīti tasyādhyavasāyaḥ। yadyasyeṣṭaṁ tattasya prayojanam।
evamīśvarasya pramāṇamabhidhāya prabhāvamāha –
pūrveṣāmapi guruḥ kālenānavacchedāt ॥ 26 ॥
ādyānāṁ sraṭṛ़ṇāṁ brahmādīnāmapi sa gururupadeṣṭā। yataḥ sa kālena nāvacchidyate anāditvāt। teṣāṁ punarādimattvādasti kālenāvacchedaḥ।
evaṁ prabhāvamuktvopāsanopayogāya vācakamāha –
tasya vācakaḥ praṇavaḥ ॥ 27 ॥
itthamuktasvarūpasyeśvarasya vācako'bhidhāyakaḥ prakarṣeṇa nūyate stūyate'neneti nauti stautīti vā praṇava oṁkāraḥ tayośca vācyavācakabhāvalakṣaṇaḥ sambandho nityaḥ saṁketena prakāśyate na tu kenacitkriyate yathā pitāputrayo rvidyamāna eva saṁbandho'syāyaṁ pitā'syāyaṁ putra iti kenacitprakāśyate।
upāsanamāha –
tajjapastadarthabhāvanam ॥ 28 ॥
tasya sārdhatrimātrasya praṇavasya japo yathāvaduccāraṇaṁ tadvācyasya ceśvarasya bhāvanaṁ punaḥ punaścetasi viniveśanamekāgratāyā upāyaḥ। ataḥ samādhisiddhaye yoginā praṇavo japyastadartha īśvaraśca bhāvanīya ityuktaṁ bhavati।
upāsanāyāḥ phalamāha –
tataḥ pratyaktcetanādhigamo'pyantarāyābhāvaśca ॥ 29 ॥
tasmājjapāttadarthabhāvanācca yoginaḥ pratyakcetanādhigamo bhavati viṣaya prātikūlyena svāntaḥkaraṇābhimukhamañcati yā cetanā dṛkśaktiḥ sā pratyakcetanā tasyā adhigamo jñānaṁ bhavati। antarāyā vakṣyamāṇāsteṣāmabhāvaḥ śaktipratibandho'pi bhavati।
atha ke'ntarāyā ityāśaṅkāyāmāha –
vyādhistyāna​saṁśayapramādālasyā​viratibhrāntidarśanālabdha​bhūmikatvānavasthitatvāni citavikṣepāste'ntarāyāḥ ॥ 30 ॥
navaite rajastamobalātpravartamānāścittasya vikṣepā bhavanti। tairekāgratāvirodhibhiścittaṁ vikṣipyata ityarthaḥ। tatra 1 vyādhirdhātuvaiṣamyanimitto jvarādiḥ। 2 styānamakarmaṇyatā cittasya। 3 ubhayakoṭyālambanaṁ jñānaṁ saṁśayaḥ yogaḥ sādhyo na veti। 4 pramādo'nanuṣṭhānaśīlatā samādhisādhaneṣvaudāsīnyam। 5 ālasyaṁ kāyacittayorgurutvaṁ yogaviṣaye pravṛttyabhāvahetuḥ। 6 aviratiścittasya viṣayasaṁprayogātmā gardhaḥ। 7 bhrāntidarśanaṁ śuktikāyāṁ rajatavadviparyayajñānam। 8 alabdhabhūmikatvaṁ kutaścinnimittātsamādhibhūmeralābho'saṁprāptiḥ। 9 anavasthitatvaṁ labdhāyāmapi samādhibhūmāva cittasya tatrāpratiṣṭhā। ta ete samādherekāgratāyā yathāyogaṁ pratipakṣatvādantarāyā ityucyante।
cittavikṣepakārakānanyānapyantarāyānpratipādayitumāha –
duḥkhadaurmanasyāṅgamejayatvaśvāsapraśvāsā vikṣepasahabhuvaḥ ॥ 31 ॥
kutaścinnibhittādutpanneṣu vikṣepeṣu ete duḥkhādayaḥ pravartante। tatra duḥkhaṁ cittasya rājasaḥ pariṇāmo bādhanālakṣaṇaḥ। yadbādhātprāṇinastadapaghātāya pravartante। daurmanasyaṁ bāhyābhyantaraiḥ kāraṇairmanasodausthyam। aṅgamejayatvo sarvāṅgīṇo vepathurāsanamanaḥ sthairyasya bādhakaḥ। prāṇo yadbāhyaṁ vāyumācāmati sa śvāsaḥ। yatkauṣṭhyaṁ vāyuṁ niḥśvasiti saḥ praśvāsaḥ। ta ete vikṣepaiḥ saha pravartamānā yathoditābhyāsavairāgyātābhyāṁ niroddhavyā ityeṣāmupadeśaḥ।
sopadravavikṣepapratiṣedhārthamupāyāntaramāha –
tatpratiṣedhārthamekatattvābhyāsaḥ ॥ 32 ॥
teṣāṁ vikṣepāṇāṁ pratiṣedhārthamekasminkasmiṁścidabhimate tattve'bhyāsaścetasaḥ punaḥ punarniveśanaṁ kāryaḥ। madbalāt pratyuditāyāmekāgratāyāṁ vikṣepāḥ praśamamupāyanti।
idānīṁ cittasaṁskārāpādakaparikarmakathanamupāyāntaramāha –
maitrīkaruṇāmuditopekṣāṇāṁ sukhaduḥkhapuṇyāpuṇyaviṣayāṇāṁ bhāvanātaścitaprasādanam ॥ 33 ॥
maitrī sauhārdam। karuṇā kṛpā। muditā harṣaḥ। upekṣaudāsīnyam। etā yathākramaṁ sukhiteṣu duḥkhiteṣu puṇyavatsu apuṇyavatsu ca vibhāvayet। tathā hi sukhiteṣu sādhu eṣāṁ sukhitvamiti maitrīṁ kuryānna tu īrṣyām। duḥkhiteṣu kathaṁ nu nāmaiṣāṁ duḥkhanivṛttiḥ syāditi kṛpāmeva kuryānna tāṭasthyam। puṇyavatsu puṇyānumodanena harṣameva kuryānna tu kimete puṇyavanta iti vidveṣam। apuṇyavatsu caudāsīnyameva bhāvayennānumodanaṁ na vā dveṣam। sūtre sukhaduḥkhādiśabdaistadvantaḥ pratipāditāḥ। tadevaṁ maitryādiparikarmaṇā citte prasīdati sukhena samādherāvirbhāvo bhavati। parikarma caitadbāhyaṁ karma। yathā gaṇite miśrakādivyavahāro gaṇitaniṣpattaye saṁkalitādikarmopakārakatvena pradhānakarmaniṣpattaye bhavati evaṁ dveṣarāgādipratipakṣabhūtamaitryādibhāvanayā samutpāditaprasādaṁ cittaṁ saṁprajñātādisamādhiyogyaṁ saṁpadyate। rāgadveṣāveva mukhyatayā vikṣepamutpādayataḥ। tau cetsamūlamunmūlitau syātāṁ tadā prasannatvānmanaso bhavatyekāgratā।
upāyāntaramāha –
pracchardanavidhāraṇābhyāṁ vā prāṇasya ॥ 34 ॥
pracchardanaṁ kauṣṭhyasya vāyoḥ prayatnaviśeṣānmātrāpramāṇena bahirniḥsāraṇam। vidhāraṇaṁ mātrāpramāṇenaiva prāṇasya vāyorbahirgativicchedaḥ। sa ca dvābhyāṁ prakārābhyāṁ bāhyasyābhyantarāpūraṇena pūritasya vā tatraiva nirodhena। tadevaṁ recakapūrakakumbhakabhedena trividhaḥ prāṇāyāmaścittasya sthitimekāgratayā nibadhnāti sarvāsāmindriyavṛttināṁ prāṇavṛttipūrvakattvāt। manaḥ prāṇayośca svavyāpāre parasparamekayogakṣematvātkṣīyamāṇaḥ prāṇaḥ samastendriyavṛttinirodhadvāreṇa cittasyaikāgratāyāṁ prabhavati। samastadoṣakṣayakāritvaṁ cāsyā''game śrūyate। doṣakṛtāśca sarvā vikṣepavṛttayaḥ। ato doṣanirharaṇadvāreṇāpyasyaikāgratāyāṁ sāmarthyam।
idānīmupāyāntarapradarśanopakṣepeṇa saṁprajñātasya samādheḥ pūrvāṅgaṁ kathayati –
viṣayavatī vā pravṛttirutpannā manasaḥ sthitinibandhanī ॥ 35 ॥
viṣayā gandharasarūpasparśaśabdāste vidyante phalatvena yasyāḥ sā viṣayavatī pravṛttirmanasaḥ sthairyaṁ karoti। tathā hi nāsāgre cittaṁ dhārayato divyagandhasaṁvidupajāyate। tādṛśyeva jihvāgre rasasaṁvit। tālvagre rūpasaṁvit। jihvāmadhye sparśasaṁvit। jihvāmūle śabdasaṁvit। tadeva tattadindriyadvāreṇa tasmiṁstasmindivyaviṣaye jāyamānā saṁviccittasyaikāgratāyā heturbhavati। asti yogasya phalamiti yoginaḥ samāśvāsotpādanāt।
evaṁvidhamevopāyāntaramāha –
viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī ॥ 36 ॥
pravṛttirutpannā cittasya sthitinibandhinīti vākya śeṣaḥ। jyotiḥ śabdena sāttvikaḥ prakāśa ucyate। sa praśasto bhūyānatiśayavāṁśca vidyate yasyāṁ sā jyotiṣmati pravṛttiḥ। viśokā vigataḥ sukhamayatvābhyāsavaśācchoko rajaḥ pariṇāmo yasyāḥ sā viśokā cetasaḥ sthitinibandhinī। ayamarthaḥ hṛtpadmasaṁpuṭamadhye praśāntakallolakṣīrodadhiprakhyaṁ cittasattvaṁ bhāvayataḥ prajñālokātsarvavṛttiparikṣaye cetasaḥ sthairyamutpadyate।
upāyāntarapradarśanadvāreṇa saṁprajñātasamādherviṣayaṁ darśayati –
vītarāgaviṣayaṁ vā cittam ॥ 37 ॥
manasaḥ sthitinibandhanaṁ bhavatīti śeṣaḥ। vītarāgaḥ parityaktaviṣayābhilāṣastasya yaccittaṁ parihṛtakleśaṁ tadālambanīkṛtaṁ cetasaḥ sthitiheturbhavati।
svapnanidrājñānālambanaṁ vā ॥ 38 ॥
pratyastamitabāhyendriyavṛttermanotmātreṇaiva yatra bhoktṛtvamātmanaḥ sa svapnaḥ। nidrā pūrvoktalakṣaṇā। tadālambanaṁ svapnālambanaṁ nidrālambanaṁ vā jñānamālambyamānaṁ cetasaḥ sthitiṁ karoti।
nānārucitvātprāṇināṁ yasminkasmiṁścidvastuni yoginaḥ śraddhā bhavati tasya dhyānenāpīṣṭasiddhiriti pratipādayitumāha –
yathābhimatadhyānādvā ॥ 39 ॥
yathābhimatavastuni bāhye candrādāvābhyantare nāḍīcakrādau vā bhāvyamāne cetaḥ sthirībhavati।
evamupāyānpradarśya phaladarśanāyā''ha –
paramāṇuparamamahattvānto'sya vaśīkāraḥ ॥ 40 ॥
ebhirupāyaiścittasya sthairya bhāvayato yoginaḥ sūkṣmaviṣayabhāvanādvāreṇa paramāṇvanto vaśīkāro'pratighātarūpo jāyate na kvacittaparamāṇuparyante sūkṣme viṣaye'sya manaḥ pratihanyata ityarthaḥ। evaṁ sthūlamākāśādiparamamahatparyantaṁ bhāvayato na kvaciccetasaḥ pratighāta utpadyate sarvatra svātantryaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ।
evamebhirupāyaiḥ saṁskṛtasya cetasaḥ kīdṛgrūpaṁ bhavatītyāha –
kṣīṇavṛtterabhijātasyeva maṇergrahītṛgrahaṇagrāhyeṣu tatsthatadañjanatā samāpattiḥ ॥ 41 ॥
kṣīṇā vṛttayo yasya tatkṣīṇavṛtti tasya grahītṛgrahaṇagrāhyeṣu ātmendriyaviṣayeṣu tatsthatadañjanatā samāpattirbhavati। tatsthatvaṁ tatraikāgratā tadañjanatā tanmayatvaṁ kṣīṇabhūte citte viṣayasya bhāvyamānasyaivotkarṣaḥ tathāvidhā samāpattiḥ tadrūpaḥ pariṇāmo bhavatītyarthaḥ। dṛṣṭāntamāha abhijātasyeva maṇeryathā'bhijātasya nirmalasya sphaṭikamaṇestattadupādhivaśāttattadrūpāpattirevaṁ nirmalasya cittasya tattadbhāvanīyavastūparāgāttattadrūpāpatti। yadyapi grahītṛgrahaṇagrāhyeṣu ityuktaṁ tathā'pi bhūmikākramavaśādgrāhyagrahaṇagrahītṛṣu iti bodhyam। yataḥ prathamaṁ grāhyaniṣṭha eva samādhistato grahaṇaniṣṭhastato'smitāmātrarūpo grahītṛniṣṭha kevalasya puruṣasya grahīturbhāvyatvāsaṁbhavāt। tataśca sthūlasūkṣmagrāhyoparaktaṁ cittaṁ tatra samāpannaṁ bhavati। evaṁ grahaṇe grahītari ca samāpannaṁ tadrūpapariṇāmatvaṁ boddhavyam।
idānīmuktāyā eva samāpatteścāturvidhyamāha –
tatra śabdārthajñānavikalpaiḥ saṁkīrṇā savitarkā samāpattiḥ ॥ 42 ॥
śrotrendriyagrāhyaḥ sphoṭarūpo vā śabdaḥ। artho jātyādiḥ। jñānaṁ sattvapradhānā buddhivṛttiḥ। vikalpa uktalakṣaṇaḥ। taiḥ saṁkīrṇā yasyāmete śabdādayaḥ parasparādhyāsena pratibhāsante gauriti śabdo gaurityartho gauriti jñānamityanenā''kāreṇa sā savitarkā samāpattirucyate।
uktalakṣaṇaviparītāṁ nirvitarkāmāha –
smṛtipariśuddhau svarūpaśūnyevārthamātranirbhāsā nirvitarkā ॥ 43 ॥
śabdārthasmṛtipravilaye sati pratyuditaspaṣṭagrāhyākārapratibhāsitayā nyagbhūtajñānāṁśatvena svarūpaśūnyeva nirvitarkā samāpattiḥ।
bhedāntaraṁ pratipādayitumāha –
etayaiva savicārā nirvicārā ca sūkṣmaviṣayā vyākhyātā ॥ 44 ॥
etayaiva savitarkayā nirvitarkayā ca samāpattyā savicārā nirvicārā ca vyākhyātā। kīdṛśī sūkṣmaviṣayā sūkṣmastanmātrendriyādirviṣayo yasyāḥ sā tathoktā। etena pūrvasyāḥ sthūlaviṣayatvaṁ pratipāditaṁ bhavati। sā hi mahābhūtendriyālambanā। śabdārthaviṣayatvena śabdārthavikalpasahitatvena deśakāladharmādyavacchinnaḥ sūkṣmo'rthaḥ pratibhāti yasyāṁ sā savicārā। deśakāladharmādirahito dharmimātratayā sūkṣmo'rthastanmātrendriyarūpaḥ pratibhāti yasyāṁ sā nirvicārā।
asyā eva sūkṣmaviṣayāyāḥ kiṁparyantaḥ sūkṣmaviṣaya ityāha –
sūkṣmaviṣayatvaṁ cāliṅgaparyavasānam ॥ 45 ॥
savicāranirvicārayoḥ samāpattyoryatsūkṣmaviṣayatvamuktaṁ tadaliṅgaparyavasānaṁ na kvacillīyate na vā kiṁcilliṅgati gamayatītyaliṅgaṁ pradhānaṁ tatparyantaṁ sūkṣmaviṣayatvam। tathā hi guṇānāṁ pariṇāme catvāri parvāṇi viśiṣṭaliṅgamaviśiṣṭaliṅgaṁ liṅgamātramaliṅgaṁ ceti। viśiṣṭaliṅgaṁ bhūtendriyāṇi। aviśiṣṭaliṅgaṁ tanmātrendriyāṇi। liṅgamātraṁ buddhiḥ। aliṅgaṁ pradhānamiti। nātaḥ paraṁ sūkṣmamastītyuktaṁ bhavati।
etāsāṁ samāpattināṁ prakṛte prayojanamāha –
tā eva sabījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 46 ॥
tā evoktalakṣaṇāḥ samāpattayaḥ saha bījenā''lambanena vartata iti sabījaḥ saṁprajñātaḥ samādhirityucyate sarvāsāṁ sālambanatvāt।
athetarāsāṁ samāpattīnāṁ nirvicāraphalatvānnirvicārāyāḥ phalamāha –
nirvicāravaiśāradye'dhyātmaprasādaḥ ॥ 47 ॥
nirvicāratvaṁ vyākhyātam। vaiśāradyaṁ nairmalyam। savitarkāṁ sthūlaviṣayāmapekṣya nirvitarkāyāḥ prādhānyam। tato'pi sūkṣmaviṣayāyāḥ savicārāyāḥ tato'pi nirvikalparūpāyā nirvicārāyāḥ tasyāstu nirvicārāyāḥ prakṛṣṭābhyāsavaśādvaiśāradye nairmalye satyadhyātmaprasādaḥ samupajāyate। cittaṁ kleśavāsanārahitaṁ sthitipravāha yogyaṁ bhavati। etadeva cittasya vaiśāradyaṁ yatsthitau dārḍhyam।
tasminsati kiṁ bhavatītyāha –
ṛtaṁbharā tatra prajñā ॥ 48 ॥
ṛtaṁ satyaṁ bibharti kadācidapi na viparyayeṇā''cchādyate sā ṛtaṁbharā prajñā tasminsati bhavatītyarthaḥ। tasmācca prajñālokātsarvaṁ yaghāvatpaśyanyogī prakṛṣṭaṁ yogaṁ prāpnoti।
asyāḥ prajñāntarādvailakṣaṇyamāha –
śrutānumānaprajñābhyāmanyaviṣayā viśeṣārthatvāt ॥ 49 ॥
śrutamāgamajñānam anumānamuktalakṣaṇam tābhyāṁ yā jāyate prajñā sā sāmānyaviṣayā। na hi śabdaliṅgayorindriyavadviśeṣapratipattau sāmarthyam। iyaṁ punarnirvicāravaiśāradyasamudbhavā prajñā tābhyāṁ vilakṣaṇā viśeṣaviṣayatvāt। asyāṁ hi prajñāyāṁ sūkṣmavyavahitaviprakṛṣṭānāmapi viśeṣaḥ sphuṭenaiva rūpeṇa bhāsate। atastasyāmeva yoginā paraḥ prayatnaḥ kartavya ityupadiṣṭaṁ bhavati।
asyāḥ prajñāyāḥ phalamāha –
tajjaḥ saṁskāro'nyasaṁskārapratibandhī ॥ 50 ॥
tayā prajñayā janito yaḥ saṁskāraḥ so'nyānvyutthānajānsamādhijāṁśca saṁskārānpratibadhnāti svakāryakaraṇākṣamānkarotītyarthaḥ। yatastattvarūpatayā''nayā janitāḥ saṁskārā balabattvādatattvarūpaprajñājanitānsaṁskārānbādhituṁ śaknuvanti। atastāmeva prajñāmabhyasedityuktaṁ bhavati।
evaṁ saṁprajñātaṁ samādhimabhidhāyāsaṁprajñātaṁ vaktumāha –
tasyāpi nirodhe sarvanirodhānnirbījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 51 ॥
tasyāpi saṁprajñātasya nirodhe pravilaye sati sarvāsāṁ cittavṛttīnāṁ svakāraṇe pravilayādyā yā saṁskāramātrādvṛttirudeti tasyāstasyā neti netīti kevalaṁ paryudasanānnirbījaḥ samādhirāvirbhavati। yasminsati puruṣaḥ svarūpaniṣṭhaḥ śuddho bhavati।
tadatrādhikṛtasya yogasya lakṣaṇaṁ cittavṛttinirodhapadānāṁ ca vyākhyānamabhyāsavairāgyalakṣaṇaṁ tasyopāyadvayasya svarūpaṁ bhedaṁ cābhidhāya saṁprajñātāsaṁprajñātabhedena yogasya mukhyāmukhyabhedamuktvā yogābhyāsapradarśanapūrvakaṁ vistareṇopāyānpradarśyaṁ sugamopāyapradarśanaparatayeśvarasya svarūpapramāṇaprabhāvavācakopāsanākramaṁ tatphalāni ca nirṇīya cittavikṣepāṁstatsahabhuvaśca duḥkhādīnvistareṇa ca tatpratiṣedhopāyānekattvābhyāsamaitryādīnprāṇāyāmādīnsaṁprajñātāsaṁprajñātapūrvāṅgabhūtaviṣayavatī pravṛttirityādīn ca ākhyāyopasaṁhāradvāreṇa ca samāpattīḥ salakṣaṇāḥ saphalāḥ svasvaviṣayasahitāścoktvā saṁprajñātāsaṁprajñātayorupasaṁhāramabhidhāya sabījapūrvako nirbījaḥ samādhirabhihita iti vyākṛto yogapādaḥ।
