kapilāya namastasmai yenāvidyodadhau jagati magne ।
kāruṇyātsāṁkhyamayī nauriva vihitā prataraṇāya ॥
alpagranthaṁ spaṣṭaṁ pramāṇasiddhāntahetubhiryuktam ।
śāstraṁ śiṣyahitāya samāsato'haṁ pravakṣyāmi ॥
duḥkhatrayābhighātājjijñāsā tadabhighātake hetau ।
dṛṣṭe sā'pārthā cennaikāntātyantato'bhāvāt ॥1 ॥
duḥkhatrayeti । asyā āryāyā upodghātaḥ kriyate । iha bhagavān brahmasutaḥ kapilo nāma । tadyathā –
sanakaśca sanandanaśca tṛtīyaśca sanātanaḥ ।
āsuriḥ kapilaścaiva voḍhuḥ pañcaśikhastathā ।
ityete brahmaṇaḥ putrāḥ sapta proktā maharṣayaḥ ॥
kapilasya sahotpannāni dharmo jñānaṁ vairāgyamaiśvaryaṁ ceti । evaṁ sa utpannaḥ sannandhe tamasi majjajjagadālokya saṁsārapāramparyeṇa satkāruṇyo jijñāsamānāya āsurisagotrāya brāhmaṇāyedaṁ pañcaviṁśatitattvānāṁ jñānamuktavān । yasya jñānād duḥkhakṣayo bhavati ।
pañcaviṁśatitattvajño yatra tatrāśrame vaset ।
jaṭī muṇḍī śikhī vāpi mucyate nātra saṁśayaḥ ॥
tadidamāhuḥ – duḥkhatrayābhighātājjijñāseti । tatra duḥkhatrayam – ādhyātmikam, ādhibhautikam, ādhidaivikaṁ ceti । tatrādhyātmikaṁ dvividham – śārīraṁ, mānasaṁ ceti । śārīraṁ vātapittaśleṣmaviparyayakṛtaṁ jvarātīsārādi । mānasaṁ priyaviyogāpriyasaṁyogādi । ādhibhautikaṁ caturvidhabhūtagrāmanimittaṁ manuṣyapaśumṛgapakṣisarīsṛpadaṁśamaśakayūkāmatkuṇamatsyamakaragrāhasthāvarebhyo jarāyujāṇḍajasvedajodbhijjebhyaḥ sakāśādupajāyate । ādhidaivikam – devānāmidaṁ daivam, divaḥ prabhavatīti vā daivam । tadadhikṛtya yadupajāyate – śītoṣṇavātavarṣāśanipātādikam । evaṁ yathā duḥkhatrayābhighātāt jijñāsā kāryā । kva –
tadabhighātake hetau । tasya duḥkhatrayasya abhighātako yo hetustatreti ।
dṛṣṭe sā'pārthā cet । dṛṣṭe hetau duḥkhatrayābhighātake sā jijñāsā apārthā cedyadi । tatrādhyātmikasya dvividhasyāpi āyurvedaśāstrakriyayā priyasamāgamāpriyaparihārakaṭutiktakaṣāyādikvāthādibhiḥ dṛṣṭa evādhyātmikopāyaḥ । ādhibhautikasya rakṣādinā'bhighāto dṛṣṭaḥ । dṛṣṭe sā'pārthā cedevaṁ manyase – na ।
ekāntātyantato'bhāvāt । yata ekāntato'vaśyam atyantato nityam dṛṣṭena hetunā abhighāto na bhavati । tasmādanyatra ekāntātyantābhighātake hetau jijñāsā vividiṣā kāryeti ॥1॥
yadi dṛṣṭādanyatra jijñāsā kāryā, tato'pi naiva । yata ānuśraviko heturduḥkhatrayābhighātakaḥ । anuśrūyata ityanuśravaḥ, tatra bhava ānuśravikaḥ । sa cāgamāt siddhaḥ । yathā –
apāma somamamṛtā abhūmāganma jyotiravidāma devān ।
kinnūnamasmān kṛṇavadarātiḥ kimu dhūrtiramṛtamartyasya ॥

kadācidindrādīnāṁ devānāṁ kalpa āsīt, kathaṁ vayamamṛtā abhūmeti vicārya yasmādvayamapāma somaṁ pītavantaḥ somaṁ tasmādamṛtā abhūma, amarā bhūtavanta ityarthaḥ । kiṁ ca aganma jyotiḥ, gatavanto labdhavanto jyotiḥ svargamiti । avidāma devān, divyān viditavantaḥ । evaṁ ca kinnūnamasmān kṛṇavat arātiḥ, nūnaṁ niścitaṁ kim arātiḥ śatrurasmān kṛṇavat kartteti । kimu dhūrtiramṛtamartyasya, dhūrtirjarā hiṁsā vā kiṁ kariṣyati amṛtamartyasya । anyacca vede śrūyate ātyantikaṁ phalaṁ paśuvadhena – ’sarvāṁllokāñjayati mṛtyuṁ tarati pāpmānaṁ tarati brahmahatyāṁ tarati yo yo'śvamedhena yajate’ iti । ekāntātyantike evaṁ vedokte apārtheva jijñāsā – iti na । ucyate –
dṛṣṭavadānuśravikaḥ sa hyaviśuddhikṣayātiśayayuktaḥ ।
tadviparītaḥ śreyān vyaktāvyaktajñavijñānāt ॥ 2॥
dṛṣṭavadānuśravika iti । dṛṣṭena tulyo dṛṣṭavat । yo'sau ānuśravikaḥ kasmāt sa dṛṣṭavat, yasmāt –
aviśuddhikṣayātiśayayuktaḥ । aviśuddhiyuktaḥ paśughātāt । tathā coktam ।
ṣaṭ śatāni niyujyante paśūnāṁ madhyame'hani ।
aśvamedhasya vacanādūnāni paśubhistribhiḥ ॥
yadyapi śrutismṛtivihito dharmastathāpi miśrībhāvādaviśuddhiyukta iti । yathā –
bahūnīndrasahasrāṇi devānāṁ ca yuge yuge ।
kālena samatītāni kālo hi duratikramaḥ ॥
evamindrādināśāt kṣayayuktaḥ । tathā'tiśayo viśeṣastena yuktaḥ । viśeṣaguṇadarśanāditarasya duḥkhaṁ syāditi । evamānuśraviko'pi heturdṛṣṭavat । kastarhi śreyān – iti ceducyate –
tadviparītaḥ śreyān । tābhyāṁ dṛṣṭānuśravikābhyāṁ viparītaḥ śreyān praśasyatara iti । aviśuddhikṣayātiśayāyuktatvāt । sa kathamityāha –
vyaktāvyaktajñavijñānāt । tatra vyaktaṁ mahadādi – buddhirahaṅkāraḥ, pañca tanmātrāṇi, ekādaśendriyāṇi, pañcaviṁśatistattvāni vyaktāvyaktajñāḥ kathyante । etadvijñānācchreya iti । uktaṁ ca – ’pañcaviṁśatitattvajña’ ityādi ॥2॥
atha vyaktāvyaktajñānāṁ ko viśeṣa ityucyate –
mūlaprakṛtiravikṛtirmahadādyāḥ prakṛtivikṛtayaḥ sapta ।
ṣoḍaśakastu vikāro na prakṛtirna vikṛtiḥ puruṣaḥ ॥ 3॥
mūlaprakṛtiḥ pradhānam । prakṛtivikṛtisaptakasya mūlabhūtattvāt । mūlaṁ ca sā prakṛtiśca mūlaprakṛtiḥ। avikṛtiḥ anyasmānnotpadyate tena prakṛtiḥ kasya cidvikāro na bhavati ।
mahadādyāḥ prakṛtivikṛtayaḥ sapta । mahān buddhiḥ । buddhyādyāḥ sapta – buddhiḥ 1, ahaṅkāraḥ 2, pañca tanmātrāṇi 7। etāḥ sapta prakṛtivikṛtayaḥ । tadyathā – pradhānādbuddhirutpadyate tena vikṛtiḥ pradhānasya vikāra iti, saivāhaṅkāramutpādayati ataḥ prakṛtiḥ । ahaṅkāro'pi buddherutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, sa ca pañca tanmātrāṇyutpādayatīti prakṛtiḥ । tatra śabdatanmātramahaṅkārādutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, tasmādākāśamutpadyata iti prakṛtiḥ । tathā sparśatanmātramahaṅkārādutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, tadevaṁ vāyumutpādayatīti prakṛtiḥ । gandhatanmātramahaṅkārādutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, tadevaṁ pṛthivīmutpādayatīti prakṛtiḥ । rūpatanmātramahaṅkārādutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, tadevaṁ teja utpādayatīti prakṛtiḥ । rasatanmātramahaṅkārādutpadyata iti vikṛtiḥ, tadevam apaḥ utpādayatīti prakṛtiḥ । evaṁ mahadādyāḥ sapta prakṛtayo vikṛtayaśca ।
ṣoḍaśakaśca vikāraḥ । pañca buddhīndriyāṇi, pañca karmendriyāṇi, ekādaśaṁ manaḥ, pañca mahābhūtāni – eṣa ṣoḍaśako gaṇo vikṛtireva vikāro vikṛtiḥ ।
na prakṛtirna vikṛtiḥ puruṣaḥ ॥3॥
evameṣāṁ vyaktāvyaktajñānāṁ trayāṇāṁ padārthānāṁ kaiḥ kiyadbhiḥ pramāṇaiḥ, kena kasya vā pramāṇena siddhirbhavati । iha loke prameyavastu pramāṇena sādhyate, yathā prasthādibhirvrīhayaḥ, tulayā candanāni । tasmāt pramāṇamabhidheyam –
dṛṣṭamanumānamāptavacanaṁ ca, sarvapramāṇasiddhatvāt ।
trividhaṁ pramāṇamiṣṭaṁ, prameyasiddhiḥ pramāṇāddhi ॥ 4 ॥
dṛṣṭaṁ yathā – śrotraṁ, tvak, cakṣuḥ, jihvā, ghrāṇamiti pañca buddhīndriyāṇi । śabdasparśarūparasagandhā eṣāṁ pañcānāṁ pañcaiva viṣayā yathāsaṁkhyam । śabdaṁ śrotraṁ gṛhṇāti, tvak sparśaṁ, cakṣū rūpaṁ, jihvā rasaṁ, ghrāṇaṁ gandhamiti । etaddṛṣṭamityucyate pramāṇam ।
pratyakṣeṇānumānena vā yo'rtho na gṛhyate sa āptavacanādgrāhyaḥ । yathā – indro devarājaḥ, uttarāḥ kuravaḥ, svarge'psarasaḥ ityādi । pratyakṣānumānāgrāhyam athāptavacanāt gṛhyate । api coktam –
āgamo hyāptavacanam, āptaṁ doṣakṣayādviduḥ ।
kṣīṇadoṣo'nṛtaṁ vākyaṁ na brūyāddhetvasambhavāt ॥
svakarmaṇyabhiyukto yaḥ saṅgadveṣavivarjitaḥ ।
pūjitastadvidhairnityam āpto jñeyaḥ sa tādṛśaḥ ॥
eteṣu pramāṇeṣu sarvapramāṇāni siddhāni bhavanti । ṣaṭ pramāṇāni jaiminiḥ । atha kāni tāni pramāṇāni । arthāpattiḥ, sambhavaḥ, abhāvaḥ, pratibhā, aitihyaṁ, upamānaṁ ceti ṣaṭ pramāṇāni । tatrārthāpattirdvividhā – dṛṣṭā śrutā ca । tatra dṛṣṭā – ekasminpakṣe ātmabhāvo gṛhītaścedanyasmin apyātmabhāvo gṛhyata eva । śrutā yathā – prastha ityukte catvāraḥ kuḍavāḥ sambhāvyante । abhāvo nāma prāgitaretarātyantasarvābhāvalakṣaṇaḥ । prāgabhāvo yathā – devadattaḥ kaumārayauvanādiṣu । itaretarābhāvaḥ – paṭe ghaṭābhāvaḥ । atyantābhāvaḥ – khara-viṣāṇavandhyāsutakhapuṣpavaditi । sarvābhāvaḥ pradhvaṁsābhāvaḥ – dagdhapaṭavaditi । yathā –śuṣkadhānyadarśanāddṛṣṭerabhāvo gamyate । evamabhāvo'nekadhā । pratibhā yathā –
dakṣiṇena ca vindhyasya sahyasya ca yaduttaram ।
pṛthivyāmāsamudrāyāṁ sa pradeśo manoramaḥ ॥
evamukte tasmin pradeśe śobhanā guṇāḥ santīti pratibhotpadyate । pratibhānvāsasaṁjñānamiti । aitihyaṁ yathā – bravīti loko yathātra vaṭe yakṣiṇī pravasatītiyeva aitihyam । upamānaṁ yathā – gauriva gavayaḥ, samudra iva taḍāgaḥ । etāni ṣaṭ pramāṇāni triṣu dṛṣṭādiṣvantarbhūtāni । tatrānumāne tāvadarthāpattirantarbhūtā । sambhavābhāvapratibhaitihyopamāścāptavacane ।
tasmāt triṣveva sarvapramāṇasiddhatvāt trividhaṁ pramāṇamiṣṭaṁ tadāha । tena trividhena pramāṇena pramāṇasiddhirbhavatīti vākyaśeṣaḥ ।
prameyasiddhiḥ pramāṇāddhi । prameyaṁ – pradhānaṁ, buddhiḥ, ahaṅkāraḥ, pañca tanmātrāṇi, ekādaśendriyāṇi, pañca mahābhūtāni, puruṣa iti  । etāni pañcaviṁśatistattvāni vyaktāvyaktajñā ityucyante । tatra kiñcit pratyakṣeṇa sādhyaṁ, kiñcidanumānena, kiñcidāgameneti trividhaṁ pramāṇamuktam॥4॥
tasya kiṁ lakṣaṇametadāha –
prativiṣayādhyavasāyo dṛṣṭaṁ, trividhamanumānamākhyātam ।
talliṅgaliṅgipūrvakam, āptaśrutirāptavacanaṁ ca ॥ 5 ॥
prativiṣayeṣu śrotrādīnāṁ śabdādiviṣayeṣu adhyavasāyo dṛṣṭaṁ pratyakṣamityarthaḥ ।
trividhamanumānamākhyātam । pūrvavat, śeṣavat, sāmānyato dṛṣṭaṁ ceti । pūvamasyāstīti pūrvavad yathā – meghonnatyā vṛṣṭiṁ sādhayati pūrvadṛṣṭatvāt । śeṣavadyathā – samudrādekaṁ jalapalaṁ lavaṇamāsādya śeṣasyāpyasti lavaṇabhāva iti । sāmanyato dṛṣṭaṁ – deśāddeśāntaraṁ prāptaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ gatimaccandratārakaṁ, caitravat । yathā caitranāmānaṁ deśāddeśāntaraṁ prāptamavalokya gatimānayamiti, tadvaccandratārakamiti । tathā puṣpitāmradarśanādanyatra puṣpitā āmrā iti sāmānyato dṛṣṭena sādhayati । etatsāmānyato dṛṣṭam ।
kiñca talliṅgaliṅgipūrvakamiti । tadanumānaṁ liṅgapūrvakaṁ yatra liṅgena liṅgī anumīyate, yathā – daṇḍena yatiḥ । liṅgipūrvakaṁ ca yatra liṅginā liṅgamanumīyate, yathā – dṛṣṭvā yatim asyedaṁ tridaṇḍamiti ।
āptaśrutirāptavacanaṁ ca । āptā ācāryā brahmādayaḥ । śrutirvedaḥ । āptāśca śrutiśca āptaśrutiḥ, taduktamāptavacanamiti ॥5॥
evaṁ trividhaṁ pramāṇamuktaṁ, tatra kena pramāṇena kiṁ sādhyamucyate –
sāmānyatastu dṛṣṭādatīndriyāṇāṁ prasiddhiranumānāt ।
tasmādapi cāsiddhaṁ parokṣamāptāgamāt siddham ॥ 6 ॥
sāmānyatodṛṣṭādanumānāt atīndriyāṇām, indriyāṇyatītya vartamānānāṁ siddhiḥ । pradhānapuruṣāvatīndriyau sāmānyatodṛṣṭānumānena sādhyete yasmānmahadādi liṅgaṁ triguṇam । yasyedaṁ triguṇaṁ kāryaṁ tatpradhānamiti । yataścācetanaṁ cetanamivābhāti, ato'nyo'dhiṣṭhātā puruṣa iti । vyaktaṁ pratyakṣasādhyam ।
tasmādapi cāsiddhaṁ parokṣamāptāgamāt siddham । yathā – indro devarājaḥ, uttarāḥ kuravaḥ, svarge'psarasa iti parokṣamāptavacanāt siddham ॥ 6 ॥
atra kaścidāha – pradhānaṁ puruṣo vā nopalabhyate । yacca nopalbhyate loke tannāsti । tasmāttāvapi na staḥ । yathā – dvitīyaṁ śiraḥ, tṛtīyo bāhuriti, taducyate – atra satāmapyarthānāmaṣṭadhopalabdhirna bhavati । tadyathā –
atidūrāt sāmīpyādindriyāghātānmano'navasthānāt ।
saukṣmyād vyavadhānādabhibhavāt samānābhihārācca ॥ 7 ॥
iha satāmapyarthānām atidūrādanupalabdhirdṛṣṭā । yathā – deśāntarasthānāṁ caitramaitraviṣṇumitrāṇām ।
sāmīpyāt । yathā – cakṣuṣo'ñjanānupalabdhiḥ ।
indriyābhighātāt । yathā – badhirāndhayoḥ śabdarūpānupalabdhiḥ ।
mano'navasthānāt । yathā – vyagracittaḥ samyakvathitamapi nāvadhārayati ।
saukṣmyāt । yathā – dhūmoṣmajalanīhāraparamāṇavo gaganagatā nopalabhyante ।
vyavadhānāt । yathā – kuḍyena pihitaṁ vastu nopalabhyate ।
abhibhavāt । yathā – sūryatejasābhibhūtā grahanakṣatratārakādayo nopalabhyante ।
samānābhihārāt । yathā – mudgarāśau mudgaḥ kṣiptaḥ, kuvalayāmalakamadhye kuvalayāmalake kṣipte, kapotamadhye kapoto nopalabhyante, samānadravyamadhyāhṛtattvāt । evamaṣṭadhā'nupalabdhiḥ satāmarthānāmiha dṛṣṭā ॥ 7 ॥
evaṁ cāsti kimabhyupagamyate, pradhānapuruṣayorapyetayorvā anupalabdhiḥ kena hetunā, kena copalabdhistaducyate –
saukṣmyāttadanupalabdhirnābhāvāt, kāryatastadupalabdhiḥ ।
mahadādi tacca kāryaṁ, prakṛtivirūpaṁ sarūpaṁ ca ॥ 8 ॥
saukṣmyāttadanupalabdhiḥ । pradhānasyetyarthaḥ । pradhānaṁ saukṣmyānnopalabhyate । yathā – ākāśe dhūmoṣmajalanīhāraparamāṇavaḥ santo'pi nopalabhyante । kathaṁ tarhi tadupalabdhiḥ –
kāryatastadupalabdhiḥ । kāryaṁ dṛṣṭvā kāraṇamanumīyate । asti pradhānaṁ kāraṇaṁ yasyedaṁ kāryam । buddhirahaṅkārapañcatanmātrāṇi ekādaśendriyāṇi pañca mahābhūtānyeva tatkāryam ।
tacca kāryaṁ prakṛtivirūpam । prakṛtiḥ pradhānaṁ tasya virūpaṁ prakṛterasadṛśam ।
sarūpaṁ ca । samānarūpaṁ ca । yathā –
loke'pi pitustulya iva putro bhavatyatulyaśca । yena hetunā tulyamatulyaṁ tadupariṣṭādvakṣyāmaḥ ॥8 ॥
yadidaṁ mahadādi kārye tatkiṁ pradhāne sat utāhosvit asat – ācārya – vipratipatterayaṁ saṁśayaḥ। yato'tra sāṁkhyadarśane satkārye, bauddhādīnāmasatkāryam । yadi sat – asanna bhavati, athāsat – sanna bhavatīti vipratiṣedhastatrāha –
asadakaraṇādupādānagrahaṇāt, sarvasambhavābhāvāt ।
śaktasya śakyakaraṇāt, kāraṇabhāvācca, satkāryam ॥9 ॥
asadakaraṇāt । na sat asat । asato'karaṇaṁ, tasmāt satkāryam । iha loke asatkaraṇaṁ nāsti। yathā – sikatābhyastailotpattiḥ । tasmātsataḥ karaṇādasti prāgutpatteḥ pradhāne vyaktam । ataḥ satkāryam ।
kiṁ cānyat – upādānagrahaṇāt । upādānaṁ karaṇaṁ, tasya grahaṇāt । iha loke yo yenārthī sa tadupādānagrahaṇaṁ karoti – dadhyarthī kṣīrasya, na tu jalasya । tasmātsatkāryam ।
itaśca, sarvasambhavābhāvāt । sarvasya sarvatra sambhavo nāsti । yathā – suvarṇasya rajatādau tṛṇapāṁśusikatāsu । tasmātsarvasambhavābhāvātsatkāryam ।
itaśca, śaktasya śakyakaraṇāt । iha kulālaḥ śakto mṛddaṇḍacakracīvararajjunīrādikaraṇopakaraṇaṁ vā śakyameva ghaṭaṁ mṛtpiṇḍādutpādayati । tasmātsatkāryam ।
itaśca, kāraṇābhāvācca satkāryam । kāraṇaṁ yallakṣaṇaṁ tallakṣaṇameva kāryamapi । yathā – yavebhyo yavāḥ, vrīhibhyo vrīhayaḥ । yadā'satkāryaṁ syāttataḥ kodravebhyaḥ śālayaḥ syuḥ । na ca santīti tasmāt satkāryam । evaṁ pañcabhirhetubhiḥ pradhāne mahadādi liṅgamasti । tasmāt sata utpattiḥ, nāsata iti ॥9॥
prakṛtivirūpaṁ sarūpaṁ ca yaduktaṁ tat kathamityucyate –
hetumadanityamavyāpi sakriyamanekamāśritaṁ liṅgam ।
sāvayavaṁ paratantraṁ vyaktaṁ viparītamavyaktam ॥ 10 ॥
vyaktaṁ mahadādikāryaṁ hetumaditi । heturasyāstīti hetumat । upādānaṁ hetuḥ, kāraṇaṁ, nimittamiti paryyāyāḥ । vyaktasya pradhānaṁ heturasti, ato hetumadvyaktaṁ bhūtaparyantam । hetumadbuddhitattvaṁ pradhānena, hetumānahaṅkāro buddhyā, pañca tanmātrāṇi ekādaśendriyāṇi hetumantyahaṁkāreṇa, ākāśaṁ śabdatanmātreṇa hetumat, vāyuḥ sparśatanmātreṇa hetumān, tejo rūpatanmātreṇa hetumat, āpo rasatanmātreṇa hetumatyaḥ, pṛthivī gandhatanmātreṇa hetumatī । evaṁ bhūtaparyantaṁ vyaktaṁ hetumat ।
kiṁ cānyat, anityam । yasmādanyasmādutpadyate, yathā – mṛtpiṇḍādutpadyate ghaṭaḥ sa cānityaḥ ।
kiṁ ca, avyāpi । asarvagamityarthaḥ । yathā pradhānapuruṣau sarvagatau, naivaṁ vyaktam ।
kiṁ cānyat, anekam । buddhirahaṅkāraḥ pañca tanmātrāṇyekādaśendriyāṇi pañcamahābhūtāni ceti।

kiṁ ca, liṅgam । layayuktam । layakāle pañca mahābhūtāni tanmātreṣu līyante, tānyekādaśendriyaiḥ sahāhaṅkāre, sa ca buddhau, sā ca pradhāne layaṁ yātīti ।
tathā, sāvayavam । avayavāḥ śabdasparśarasarūpagandhāḥ, taiḥ saha ।
kiṁ ca, paratantram । nātmanaḥ prabhavati । yathā-pradhānatantrā buddhiḥ, buddhitantro'haṅkāraḥ, ahaṅkāratantrāṇi tanmātrāṇi tanmātrāṇīndriyāṇi ca, tanmātratantrāṇi pañcamahābhūtāni ca । evaṁ paratantraṁ parāyattaṁ vyākhyātaṁ vyaktam।
atho'vyaktaṁ vyākhyāsyāmaḥ । viparītamavyaktam । etaireva guṇairyathoktairviparītamavyaktam । hetumad vyaktamuktam । nahi pradhānāt paraṁ kiñcidasti, yataḥ pradhānasyānutpattiḥ, tasmādahetumadavyaktam ।
tathā anityaṁ ca vyaktaṁ, nityamavyaktaṁ, anutpadyamānatvāt । nahi bhūtānīva kutaścidutpadyata iti nityaṁ pradhānam ।
kiṁ ca, avyāpi vyaktaṁ, vyāpi pradhānaṁ, sarvagatatvāt ।
sakriyaṁ vyaktam, akriyamavyaktaṁ, sarvagatatvādeva ।
tathā anekaṁ vyaktam, ekaṁ pradhānaṁ, kāraṇatvāt । trayāṇāṁ lokānāṁ pradhānamekaṁ kāraṇaṁ, tasmādekaṁ pradhānam ।
tathā āśritaṁ vyaktam, anāśritamavyaktam, akāryatvāt । nahi pradhānādasti kiñcitparaṁ yasya padhānaṁ kāryaṁ syāt ।
tathā vyaktaṁ liṅgaṁ, aliṅgamavyaktaṁ, nityatvāt । mahadādi liṅgaṁ pralayakāle parasparaṁ pralīyate, naivaṁ pradhānaṁ, tasmādaliṅgaṁ pradhānam ।
tathā sāvayavaṁ vyaktaṁ, niravayavamavyaktaṁ, nahi śabdasparśarasarūpagandhāḥ pradhāne santi ।
tathā paratantraṁ vyaktaṁ, svatantramavyaktaṁ, prabhavatyātmanaḥ ॥ 10 ॥
evaṁ vyaktāvyaktayorvaidharmyamuktaṁ sādharmyamucyate । yaduktaṁ svarūpaṁ ca –
triguṇamaviveki viṣayaḥ sāmānyamacetanaṁ prasavadharmi ।
vyaktaṁ tathā pradhānaṁ, tadviparītastathā ca pumān ॥ 11 ॥
triguṇaṁ vyaktam । sattvarajastamāṁsi trayo guṇā yasyeti ।
aviveki vyaktam । na viveko'syāstīti । idaṁ vyaktamime guṇā iti na vivekaṁ kartuṁ yāti, ayaṁ gaurayamaśva iti yathā । ye guṇāstadvyaktaṁ, yadvyaktaṁ te ca guṇā iti ।
tathā viṣayo vyaktam । bhojyamityarthaḥ । sarvapuruṣāṇāṁ viṣayabhūtatvāt ।
tathā sāmānyaṁ vyaktam । mūlyadāsīvat sarvasādhāraṇatvāt ।
acetanaṁ vyaktam । sukhaduḥkhamohānna cetayatītyarthaḥ ।
tathā prasavadharmi vyaktam । tadyathā – buddherahaṅkāraḥ prasūyate, tasmāt pañca tanmātrāṇi ekādaśendriyāṇi ca prasūyante, tanmātrebhyaḥ pañca mahābhūtāni ।
evamete vyaktadharmāḥ prasavadharmāntā uktāḥ, evamebhiravyaktaṁ sarūpaṁ, yathā vyaktaṁ tathā pradhānamiti। tatra triguṇaṁ vyaktaṁ, avyaktamapi triguṇaṁ, yasyai tanmahadādi kāryaṁ triguṇam । iha yadātmakaṁ kāraṇaṁ tadātmakaṁ kāryamiti । yathā kṛṣṇatantukṛtaḥ kṛṣṇa eva paṭo bhavati ।
tathā aviveki vyaktaṁ, pradhānamapi guṇairna bhidyate । anye guṇā anyat pradhānamevaṁ vivektuṁ na yāti, tadaviveki pradhānam ।
tathā viṣayo vyaktaṁ, pradhānamapi sarvapuruṣaviṣayabhūtatvādviṣaya iti ।
tathā sāmānyaṁ vyaktaṁ, pradhānamapi, sarvasādhāraṇatvāt ।
tathā acetanaṁ, vyaktaṁ, pradhānamapi sukhaduḥkhamohānna cetayati, iti kathamanumīyate – iha hyacetanānmṛtpiṇḍādacetano ghaṭa utpadyate ।
evaṁ pradhānamapi vyākhyātam । idānīṁ tadviparītastathā ca pumānityetadvyākhyāyate । tadviparītastābhyāṁ vyaktāvyaktābhyāṁ viparītaḥ pumān ।
tadyathā –
triguṇaṁ vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, aguṇaḥ puruṣaḥ।
aviveki vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, vivekī puruṣaḥ ।
tathā viṣayo vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, aviṣayaḥ puruṣaḥ ।
tathā sāmānyaṁ vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, asāmānyaḥ puruṣaḥ ।
acetanaṁ vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, cetanaḥ puruṣaḥ । sukhaduḥkhamohān cetayati saṁjānīte tasmāccetanaḥ puruṣaḥ । prasavadharmi vyaktaṁ pradhānaṁ ca, aprasavadharmī puruṣaḥ । nahi puruṣāt kiñcit prasūyate । tasmāduktaṁ tadviparītaḥ pumāniti ।
taduktaṁ tathā ca pumāniti । tat pūrvasyāmāryāyāṁ pradhānamahetumadyathā vyākhyātaṁ tathā ca pumān । tadyathā hetumadanityamityādi vyaktaṁ, tadviparītamavyaktam ।
tatra – hetumadvyaktam, ahetumat pradhānaṁ, tathā ca pumānahetumānanutpādyatvāt ।
anityaṁ vyaktaṁ, nityaṁ pradhānaṁ, tathā ca nityaḥ pumān ।
(avyāpi vyaktaṁ, vyāpi pradhānaṁ, tathā ca vyāpi pumān । sarvagatatvāt ।)
(sakriyaṁ vyaktam, akriyaṁ pradhānaṁ, tathā ca pumān ) akriyaḥ, sarvagatatvādeva ।
anekaṁ vyaktam, ekamavyaktaṁ, tathā pumānapyekaḥ ।
āśritaṁ vyaktam, anāśritamavyaktaṁ, tathā ca pumānanāśritaḥ ।
liṅgaṁ vyaktam, aliṅgaṁ pradhānaṁ, tathā ca pumānapyaliṅgaḥ । na kvacillīyata iti ।
sāvayavaṁ vyaktaṁ, niravayavam avyaktaṁ, tathā ca pumān niravayaḥ । nahi puruṣe śabdādayo'vayavāḥ santi ।
kiṁ ca paratantraṁ vyaktaṁ, svatantramavyaktaṁ, tathā ca pumānapi svatantraḥ, ātmanaḥ prabhavatītyarthaḥ ।
evametadavyaktapuruṣayoḥ sādharmyaṁ vyākhyātaṁ pūrvasyāmāryāyām । vyaktapradhānayoḥ sādharmye puruṣasya vaidharmyaṁ ca triguṇamavivekītyādi prakṛtāryāyāṁ vyākhyātam ॥11॥
tatra yaduktaṁ triguṇamiti vyaktamavyaktaṁ ca, tat ke te guṇā iti tatsvarūpapratipādanāyedamāha –
prītyaprītiviṣādātmakāḥ prakāśapravṛttiniyamārthāḥ ।
anyo'nābhibhavāśrayajananamithunavṛttayaśca guṇāḥ ॥12॥
prītyātmakāḥ, aprītyātmakāḥ, viṣādātmakāśca guṇāḥ – sattvarajastamāṁsītyarthaḥ । tatra prītyātmakaṁ sattvaṁ, prītiḥ sukhaṁ tadātmakamiti । aprītyātmakaṁ rajaḥ, aprītirduḥkham । viṣādātmakaṁ tamaḥ, viṣādo mohaḥ ।
tathā – prakāśapravṛttiniyamārthāḥ । arthaśabdaḥ sāmarthyavācī, prakāśārthaṁ sattvaṁ prakāśasamarthamityarthaḥ । pravṛttyarthaṁ rajaḥ । niyamārthaṁ tamaḥ, sthitau samarthamityarthaḥ । prakāśakriyāsthitiśīlā guṇā iti ।
tathā – anyo'nyābhibhavāśrayajananamithunavṛttayaśca । anyo'nyābhibhavāḥ, anyo'nyāśrayāḥ, anyo'nyajananāḥ, anyo'nyamithunāḥ, anyo'nyavṛttayaśca te tathoktāḥ । anyo'nyābhibhavā iti । anyo'nyaṁ parasparamabhibhavantīti prītyaprītyādibhirdharmairāvirbhavanti । yathā – yadā sattvamutkaṭaṁ bhavati, tadā rajastamasī aprītipravṛttidharmeṇa; yadā tamaḥ, tadā sattvarajasī viṣādasthityātmakena iti । tathā anyo'nyāśrayāśca dvyaṇukavad guṇāḥ । anyo'nyajananāḥ, yathā mṛtpiṇḍo ghaṭaṁ janayati । tathā anyo'nyamithunāśca । yathā strīpuṁsau anyo'nyamithunau tathā guṇāḥ । uktaṁ ca –
rajaso mithunaṁ sattvaṁ sattvasya mithunaṁ rajaḥ ।
ubhayoḥ sattvarajasormithunaṁ tama ucyate ॥

parasparasahāyā ityarthaḥ । anyo'nyavṛttayaśca । parasparaṁ vartante । ’guṇā guṇeṣu vartante’ iti vacanāt [bhagavadgītā -3-28] । yathā surūpā suśīlā strī sarvasukhahetuḥ, sapatnīnāṁ saiva duḥkhahetuḥ, saiva rāgiṇāṁ mohaṁ janayati, evaṁ sattvaṁ rajastamasorvṛttihetuḥ । yathā rājā sadodyuktaḥ prajāpālane duṣṭanigrahe, śiṣṭānāṁ sukhamutpādayati duṣṭānāṁ duḥkhaṁ mohaṁ ca, evaṁ rajaḥ sattvatamasorvṛttiḥ janayati । tathā tamaḥ svarūpeṇāvaraṇātmakena sattvarajasorvṛttiṁ janayati । yathā meghāḥ svamāvṛtya jagataḥ sukhamutpādayanti, te vṛṣṭyā karṣakāṇāṁ karṣaṇodyogaṁ janayanti, virahiṇāṁ moham । evaṁ anyo'nyavṛttayo guṇāḥ ॥ 12 ॥
kiṁ cānyat –
sattvaṁ laghu prakāśakamiṣṭamupaṣṭambhakaṁ calaṁ ca rajaḥ ।
guru varaṇakameva tamaḥ pradīpavaccārthato vṛttiḥ ॥ 13 ॥
sattvaṁ laghu prakāśakaṁ ca । yadā sattvamutkaṭaṁ bhavati tadā laghūnyaṅgāni buddhiprakāśaśca prasannatendriyāṇāṁ bhavati ।
upaṣṭambhakaṁ calaṁ ca rajaḥ । upaṣṭabhnātītyupaṣṭambhakam, udyotakam । yathā vṛṣo vṛṣadarśane utkaṭamupaṣṭambhaṁ karoti, evaṁ rajovṛttiḥ । tathā rajaśca calaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ, rajovṛttiścalacitto bhavati ।
guru varaṇakameva tamaḥ । yadā tama utkaṭaṁ bhavati tadā gurūṇyaṅgāni āvṛtānīndriyāṇi bhavanti svārthasamarthāni ।
atrāha – yadi guṇāḥ parasparaṁ viruddhāḥ svamatenaiva kamarthaṁ niṣpādayanti tarhi katham – pradīpavaccārthato vṛttiḥ । pradīpena tulyaṁ pradīpavat । arthataḥ sādhanā vṛttiriṣṭā । yathā pradīpaḥ parasparaviruddhatailāgnivarttisaṁyogāt arthaprakāśān janayati, evaṁ sattvarajastamāṁsi parasparaviruddhāni arthe niṣpādayanti ॥13॥
antarapraśno bhavati – “triguṇamaviveki viṣayaḥ” ityādi pradhānaṁ vyaktaṁ ca vyākhyātam । tatra pradhānaṁ, upalabhyamānaṁ mahadādi ca triguṇamavivekyādīti ca kathamavagamyate । tatrāha –
avivekyādiḥ siddhaḥ traiguṇyāttadviparyayābhāvāt ।
kāraṇaguṇātmakatvāt kāryasyāvyaktamapi siddham ॥ 14 ॥
yo'yamavivekyādirguṇaḥ sa traiguṇyānmahadādau, avyakte nāyaṁ siddhyati । atrocyate – tadviparyayābhāvāt । tasya viparyayaḥ tadviparyayaḥ, tasyābhāvaḥ tadviparyayābhāvaḥ, tasmāt siddhamavyaktam । yathā – yatraiva tantavastatraiva paṭaḥ । anye tantavo'nyaḥ paṭo na, kutaḥ – tadviparyayābhāvāt । evaṁ vyaktāvyaktasaṁpanno bhavati । dūraṁ pradhānamāsannaṁ vyaktam । yo vyaktaṁ paśyati, sa pradhānamapi paśyati, tadviparyayābhāvāt ।
itaścāvyaktaṁ siddham – kāraṇaguṇātmakatvāt kāryasya । loke yadātmakaṁ kāraṇaṁ tadātmakaṁ kāryamapi । tathā – kṛṣṇebhyastantubhyaḥ kṛṣṇa eva paṭo bhavati । evaṁ mahadādi liṅgam aviveki, viṣayaḥ, sāmānyaṁ, acetanaṁ, prasavadharmi । yadātmakaṁ liṅgaṁ tadātmakamavyaktampi siddham ॥ 14 ॥
traiguṇyādavivekyādirvyakte siddhaḥ । tadviparyayābhāvāt, evaṁ kāraṇaguṇātmakatvāt kāryasya, avyaktamapi siddham – ityetanmithyā, loke yannopalabhyate tannāsti – (iti na vācyam, sato'pi pāṣāṇagandhāderanupalambhāt ।) evaṁ pradhānamapyasti kintu nopalabhyate ।
bhedānāṁ parimāṇāt, samanvayāt, śaktitaḥ pravṛtteśca ।
kāraṇakāryavibhāgāt, avibhāgādvaiśvarūpyasya ॥ 15 ॥
kāraṇamastyavyaktamiti kriyākārakasambandhaḥ । bhedānāṁ parimāṇāt । loke yatra kartāsti tasya parimāṇaṁ dṛṣṭam । yathā – kulālaḥ parimitairmṛtpiṇḍaiḥ parimitāneva ghaṭān karoti । evaṁ mahadapi । mahadādi liṅgaṁ parimitaṁ bhedataḥ pradhānakāryam । ekā buddhiḥ, eko'haṅkāraḥ, pañca tanmātrāṇi, ekādaśendriyāṇi, pañca mahābhūtāni – ityevaṁ bhedānāṁ parimāṇādasti pradhānaṁ kāraṇaṁ yadvyaktaṁ parimitamutpādayati । yadi pradhānaṁ na syāttadā niṣparimāṇamidaṁ vyaktamapi syāt । parimāṇācca bhedānāmasti pradhānaṁ yasmād vyaktamutpannam ।
tathā samanvayāt । iha loke prasiddhirdṛṣṭā yathā – vratadhāriṇaṁ vaṭuṁ dṛṣṭvā samanvayati, nūnamasya pitarau brāhmaṇāviti । evamidaṁ triguṇaṁ mahadādiliṅgaṁ dṛṣṭvā sādhayāmo'sya yatkāraṇaṁ bhaviṣyatīti। ataḥ samanvayādasti pradhānam ।
tathā śaktitaḥ pravṛtteśca । iha yo yasmin śaktaḥ sa tasminnevārthe pravartate । yathā – kulālo ghaṭasya karaṇe samartho ghaṭameva karoti na paṭaṁ rathaṁ vā ।
tathā asti pradhānaṁ kāraṇaṁ, kutaḥ – kāraṇakāryavibhāgāt । karotīti kāraṇam, kriyata iti kāryam । kāraṇasya kāryasya ca vibhāgaḥ । yathā ghaṭo dadhimadhūdakapayasāṁ dhāraṇe samartho, na tathā mṛtpiṇḍaḥ । mṛtpiṇḍo vā ghaṭaṁ niṣpādayati, na caivaṁ ghaṭo mṛtpiṇḍam  । evaṁ mahadādiliṅgaṁ dṛṣṭvānumīyate – asti vibhaktaṁ tat kāraṇaṁ yasya vibhāga idam vyaktamiti ।
itaśca, avibhāgādvaiśvarūpyasya । viśvaṁ jagat, tasya rūpaṁ vyaktiḥ viśvarūpasya bhāvo vaiśvarūpyam। tasya avibhāgādasti pradhānam, yasmāt trailokyasya pañcānāṁ pṛthivyādīnāṁ mahābhūtānāṁ parasparaṁ vibhāgo nāsti, mahābhūteṣvantarbhūtāstrayo lokā iti । pṛthivyāpastejovāyurākāśamiti etāni pañca mahābhūtāni pralayakāle sṛṣṭikrameṇaivāvibhāgaṁ yānti tanmātreṣu pariṇāmiṣu, tanmātrāṇyekādaśendriyāṇi cāhaṅkāre, ahaṅkāro buddhau, buddhiḥ pradhāne । evaṁ trayo lokāḥ pralayakāle prakṛtāvavibhāgaṁ gacchanti । tasmādavibhāgāt kṣīradadhivadvyaktāvyaktayorastyavyaktaṁ kāraṇam ॥ 15 ॥
ataśca –
kāraṇamastyavyaktaṁ pravartate triguṇataḥ samudayācca ।
pariṇāmataḥ salilavat pratipratiguṇāśrayaviśeṣāt ॥ 16 ॥
avyaktaṁ prakhyātaṁ kāraṇamasti yasmānmahadādi liṅgaṁ pravartate ।
triguṇataḥ triguṇāt । sattvarajastamoguṇāḥ yasmiṁstat triguṇaṁ, tatkimuktaṁ bhavati – sattvarajastamasāṁ sāmyāvasthā pradhānam ।
tathā samudayāt । yathā gaṅgāsrotāṁsi trīṇi rudramūrddhani patitāni ekaṁ sroto janayanti evaṁ triguṇamavyaktamekaṁ vyaktaṁ janayati । yathā vā tantavaḥ samuditāḥ paṭaṁ janayanti, evamavyaktaṁ guṇasamudayānmahadādi janayatīti triguṇataḥ samudayācca vyaktaṁ jagat pravartate ।
yasmādekasmāt pradhānādvyaktaṁ tasmādekarūpeṇa bhavitavyam – naiṣa doṣaḥ pariṇāmataḥ salilavat pratipratiguṇāśrayaviśeṣāt । ekasmāt pradhānāt trayo lokāḥ samutpannāḥ tulyabhāvā na bhavanti । devāḥ sukhena yuktāḥ, manuṣyā duḥkhena, tiryañco mohena । ekasmāt pradhānāt pravṛttaṁ vyaktaṁ pratipratiguṇāśrayaviśeṣāt pariṇāmataḥ salilavadbhavati । pratipratīti vīpsā । guṇānāmāśrayo guṇāśrayaḥ, tadviśeṣaḥ, taṁ guṇāśrayaviśeṣaṁ pratinidhāya pratipratiguṇāśrayaviśeṣaṁ pariṇāmāt pravartate vyaktam । yathā – ākāśādekarasaṁ salilaṁ patitaṁ nānārūpāt saṁśleṣādbhidyate tattadrasāntaraiḥ, evamekasmāt pradhānāt pravṛttāstrayo lokā naikasvabhāvā bhavanti । deveṣu sattvamutkaṭaṁ, rajastamasī udāsīne, tena te'tyantasukhinaḥ । manuṣyeṣu raja utkaṭaṁ bhavati, sattvatamasī udāsīne, tena te'tyantaduḥkhinaḥ । tiryakṣu tama utkaṭaṁ bhavati, sattvarajasī udāsīne, tena te'tyantamūḍhāḥ ॥ 16 ॥
evamāryādvayena pradhānasyāstitvamabhyupagamyate, itaścottaraṁ puruṣāstitvapratipādanārthamāha –
saṁghātaparārthatvāt triguṇādiviparyayādadhiṣṭhānāt ।
puruṣo'sti bhoktṛbhāvāt kaivalyārthaṁ pravṛtteśca ॥ 17 ॥
yaduktaṁ vyaktāvyaktajñavijñānāt mokṣaḥ prāpyata iti, tatra vyaktādanantaram avyaktaṁ pañcabhiḥ kāraṇairadhigatam । avyaktavat puruṣo'pi sūkṣmaḥ, tasyādhunā'numitāstitvaṁ pratikriyate । asti puruṣaḥ, kasmāt – saṁghātaparārthatvāt । yo'yaṁ mahadādisaṁghātaḥ sa puruṣārthaḥ, ityanumīyate, acetanatvāt paryaṅkavat । yathā paryaṅkaḥ pratyekaṁ gātrotpalakapādapīṭhatūlīpracchādanapaṭopadhānasaṁghātaḥ parārtho nahi svārthaḥ । paryaṅkasya nahi kiñcidapi gātrotpalādyavayavānāṁ parasparaṁ kṛtyamasti । ato'vagamyate, asti puruṣo yaḥ paryaṅke śete yasyārthe paryaṅkaḥ । tatparārthamidaṁ śarīraṁ pañcānāṁ mahābhūtānāṁ saṁghāto vartate । asti puruṣo yasyedaṁ bhogyaṁ śarīraṁ bhogyamahadādisaṁghātarūpaṁ samutpannamiti ।
itaścātmāsti – triguṇādiviparyayāt । yaduktaṁ pūrvasyāmāryāyāṁ ’triguṇamaviveki viṣaya’ ityādi, tasmād viparyayāt । yenoktaṁ ’tadviparītastathā ca pumān’ ।
adhiṣṭhānāt । yatheha laṁghanaplavanadhāvanasamarthairaśvairyukto rathaḥ sārathinādhiṣṭhitaḥ pravartate tathā ātmādhiṣṭhānāccharīramiti । tathā coktaṁ ṣaṣṭhitantre – ’puruṣādhiṣṭhitaṁ pradhānaṁ pravartate’ ।
ato'syātmā – bhoktṛtvāt । yathā madhurāmlalavaṇakaṭutiktakaṣāyaṣaḍrasopabṛṁhitasya saṁyuktasyānnasya sādhyate, evaṁ mahadādiliṅgasya bhoktṛtvā'bhāvādasti sa ātmā yasyedaṁ bhogyaṁ śarīramiti ।
itaśca – kaivalyārthaṁ pravṛtteśca । kevalasya bhāvaḥ kaivalyam । tannimittaṁ yā ca pravṛttistasyāḥ svakaivalyārthaṁ pravṛtteḥ sakāśādanumīyate, astyātmeti । yataḥ sarvo vidvānavidvāṁśca saṁsārakṣayamicchati । evamebhirhetubhirastyātmā śarīrādvyatiriktaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
atha sa kimekaḥ sarvaśarīre'dhiṣṭhātā maṇirasanātmakasūtravat, āhosvit bahava ātmānaḥ pratiśarīramadhiṣṭhātāra ityatrocyate –
jananamaraṇakaraṇānāṁ pratiniyamādayugapatpravṛtteśca ।
puruṣabahutvaṁ siddhaṁ triguṇyaviparyayāccaiva ॥18 ॥
janma ca maraṇaṁ ca karaṇāni ca janmamaraṇakaraṇāni । teṣāṁ pratiniyamāt, pratyekaniyamādityarthaḥ। yadyekam evātmā syāttata ekasya janmani sarva eva jāyeran ekasya maraṇe sarve'pi mriyeran, ekasya karaṇavaikalye bādhiryāndhatvamūkatvakuṇitvakhañjatvalakṣaṇe sarve'pi badhirāndhakuṇikhañjāḥ syuḥ । na caivaṁ bhavati tasmājjanmamaraṇakaraṇānāṁ pratiniyamāt puruṣabahutvaṁ siddham।
itaśca – ayugapatpravṛtteśca । yugapadekakālam, na yugapadayugapat pravartanam । yasmādyugapaddharmādiṣu pravṛttirdṛśyate । eke dharme pravṛttāḥ, anye'dharme, vairāgye'nye, jñāne'nye pravṛttāḥ, tasmādayugapatpravṛtteśca bahava iti siddham ।
kiṁ cānyat – traiguṇyaviparyayāccaiva । triguṇabhāvaviparyayācca puruṣabahutvaṁ siddham । yathā sāmāṇye janmani ekaḥ sāttvikaḥ sukhī, anyo rājaso duḥkhī, anyastāmaso mohavān । evaṁ traiguṇyaviparyayādbahutvaṁ siddhamiti ॥ 18 ॥
akartā puruṣa ityetaducyate –
tasmācca viparyāsāt siddhaṁ sākṣitvamasya puruṣasya ।
kaivalyaṁ mādhyasthyaṁ draṣṭṛtvamakartṛbhāvaśca ॥ 19 ॥
tasmācca viparyāsāt । tasmācca yathoktatraiguṇyaviparyāsāt, viparyayāt । nirguṇaḥ puruṣo vivekī bhoktetyādiguṇānāṁ puruṣasya yo viparyāsa uktaḥ tasmāt –
sattvarajastamassu kartṛbhūteṣu sākṣitvaṁ siddhaṁ puruṣasyeti । yo'yamadhikṛto bahutvaṁ prati । guṇā eva kartāraḥ pravartante, sākṣī nāpi pravartate nāpi nivartata eva ।
kiṁ cānyat, kaivalyam । kevalabhāvaḥ kaivalyamanyatvamityarthaḥ । triguṇebhyaḥ kevalaḥ anyaḥ ।
mādhyasthyam madhyasthabhāvaḥ । parivrājakavat madhyasthaḥ puruṣaḥ । yathā kaścit parivrājako grāmīṇeṣu karṣaṇārtheṣu pravṛtteṣu kevalo madhyasthaḥ, puruṣo'pyeṣu guṇeṣu vartamāneṣu na pravartate ।
tasmāt, draṣṭṛtvamakartṛbhāvaśca । yasmānmadhyasthastasmāt draṣṭā tasmādakartā puruṣasteṣāṁ karmaṇāmiti । sattvarajastamāṁsi trayo guṇāḥ karmakartṛbhāvena pravartante na puruṣaḥ, evaṁ puruṣasyāstitvaṁ ca siddham ॥ 19 ॥
yasmādakartā puruṣastatkathamadhyavasāyaṁ karoti dharmaṁ kariṣyāmyadharmaṁ na kariṣyāmīti । ataḥ, kartā bhavati – na ca kartā puruṣaḥ -, evamubhayathā doṣaḥ syāditi । ata ucyate –
tasmāttatsaṁyogādacetanaṁ cetanāvadiva liṅgam ।
guṇakartṛtve ca tathā karteva bhavayudāsīnaḥ ॥ 20 ॥
iha puruṣaścetanāvān । tena cetanāvabhāsasaṁyuktaṁ mahadādi liṅgaṁ cetanāvadiva bhavati । yathā loke ghaṭaḥ śītasaṁyuktaḥ śītaḥ, uṣṇasaṁyukta uṣṇaḥ, evaṁ mahadādi liṅgaṁ tasya saṁyogāt puruṣasaṁyogāccetanāvadiva bhavati । tasmādguṇā adhyavasāyaṁ kurvanti na puruṣaḥ ।
yadyapi loke puruṣaḥ kartā gantetyādi prayujyate tathā'pyakartā puruṣaḥ । katham – guṇakartṛtve ca tathā karteva bhavatyudāsīnaḥ । guṇānāṁ kartṛtve sati udāsīno'pi puruṣaḥ karteva bhavati, na kartā । atra dṛṣṭānto bhavati – yathā acauraścauraiḥ saha gṛhītaścaura ityavagamyate, evaṁ trayo guṇāḥ kartārastaiḥ saṁyuktaḥ puruṣo'kartā'pi kartā bhavati, kartṛsaṁyogāt । evaṁ vyaktāvyaktajñānāṁ vibhāgo vikhyātaḥ, yadvibhāgānmokṣaprāptiriti ॥ 20 ॥
athaitayoḥ pradhānapuruṣayoḥ kiṁ hetuḥ saṁghātaḥ – ucyate –
puruṣasya darśanārthaṁ kaivalyārthaṁ tathā pradhānasya ।
paṅgvandhavadubhayorapi saṁyogāstatkṛtaḥ sargaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
puruṣasya pradhānena saha saṁyogo darśanārtham । prakṛtiṁ mahadādikāryaṁ bhūtādiparyantaṁ puruṣaḥ paśyati ।
etadarthaṁ pradhānasyāpi puruṣeṇa saṁyogaḥ kaivalyārtham ।
sa ca saṁyogaḥ paṅgvandhavadubhayorapi draṣṭavyaḥ । yathā – ekaḥ paṅgurekaścāndhaḥ, etau dvāvapi gacchantau, mahatā sāmarthyenāṭavyāṁ sārthasya stenakṛtādupaplavāt, svabandhuparityaktau daivāditaścetaśca ceratuḥ । svagatyā ca tau saṁyogamupayātau । punastayoḥ svavacasorviśvastatvena saṁyojgo gamanārthaṁ darśanārthaṁ ca bhavati । andhena paṅguḥ svaskandhamāropitaḥ evaṁ śarīrārūḍhapaṅgudarśitena mārgeṇāndho yāti, paṅguścāndhaskandhārūḍhaḥ । evaṁ puruṣe darśanaśaktirasti paṅguvat, na kriyā । pradhāne kriyāśaktirastyandhavat, na darśanaśaktiḥ । yathā vā anayoḥ paṅgvandhayoḥ kṛtārthayorvibhāgo bhaviṣyatīpsitasthānaprāptayoḥ, evaṁ pradhānamapi puruṣasya mokṣaṁ kṛtvā nivartate, puruṣo'pi pradhānaṁ dṛṣṭvā kaivalyaṁ gacchati । tayoḥ kṛtārthayorvibhāgo bhaviṣyati ।
kiṁ cānyat, tatkṛtaḥ sargaḥ । tena saṁyogena kṛtastatkṛtaḥ sargaḥ, sṛṣṭiḥ । yathā strīpuruṣasaṁyogāt sutotpattistathā pradhānapuruṣasaṁyogāt sargasyotpattiḥ ॥ 21 ॥
idānīṁ sarvavibhāgadarśanārthamāha –
prakṛtermahān, tato'haṅkāraḥ, tasmādgaṇaśca ṣoḍaśakaḥ ।
tasmādapi ṣoḍaśakāt pañcabhyaḥ pañca bhūtāni ॥ 22 ॥
prakṛtiḥ, pradhānaṁ, brahma, avyaktaṁ, bahudhātmakaṁ māyeti paryāyaḥ । aliṅgasya prakṛteḥ sakāśānmahānutpadyate। mahān, buddhiḥ, āsurī, matiḥ, khyātiḥ, jñānaṁ, iti prajñāparyāyairutpadyate ।
tasmācca mahato'haṅkāra utpadyate । ahaṅkāraḥ, bhūtādiḥ, vaikṛtaḥ, taijasaḥ, abhimāna iti paryāyāḥ ।
tasmādgaṇaśca ṣoḍaśakaḥ । tasmādahaṅkārāt ṣoḍaśakaḥ ṣoḍaśasvarūpo gaṇa utpadyate । sa yathā – pañcatanmātrāṇi । śabdatanmātraṁ, sparśatanmātraṁ, rūpatanmātraṁ, rasatanmātraṁ, gandhatanmātramiti । tata ekādaśendriyāṇi । śrotraṁ, tvak, cakṣuṣī, jihvā, ghrāṇamiti pañca buddhīndriyāṇi । vākpāṇipādapāyūpasthāḥ pañca karmendriyāṇi । ubhayātmakamekādaśaṁ manaḥ । eṣa ṣoḍaśako gaṇo'haṅkārādutpadyate । kiñca, pañcabhyaḥ pañca bhūtāni । tasmāt ṣoḍaśakāt gaṇāt pañcabhyastanmātrebhyaḥ sakāśāt pañca vai mahābhūtānyutpadyante । yaduktaṁ – śabdatanmātrādākāśam, sparśatanmātrādvāyuḥ, rūpatanmātrāttejaḥ, rasatanmātrādāpaḥ, gandhatanmātrāt pṛthivī । evaṁ pañcabhyaḥ paramāṇubhyaḥ pañca mahābhūtānyutpadyante ॥ 22 ॥
yaduktaṁ – vyaktāvyaktajñavijñānānmokṣa iti, tatra mahadādibhūtāntaṁ trayo viṁśatibhedaṁ vyākhyātam। avyaktamapi ’bhedānāṁ parimāṇāt’ ityādinā vyākhyātam । puruṣo'pi ’saṁghātaparārthatvāt’ ityādibhirhetubhirvyākhyātaḥ । evametāni pañcaviṁśatitattvāni । yasyaistrailokyaṁ vyāptaṁ jānāti । tasya bhāvo'stitvaṁ, tattvam । yathoktam –
pañcaviṁśatitattvajño yatra kutrāśrame rataḥ ।
jaṭī muṇḍī śikhī vāpi mucyate nātra saṁśayaḥ ॥
tāni yathā – prakṛtiḥ, puruṣaḥ, buddhiḥ, ahaṅkāraḥ, pañca tanmātrāṇi, ekādaśendriyāṇi, pañca mahābhūtāni । ityetāni pañcaviṁśatitattvāni । tatroktaṁ, prakṛtermahānutpadyate । tasya kiṁ lakṣaṇametadāha –
adhyavasāyo buddhirdharmo jñānaṁ virāga aiśvaryam ।
sāttvikametadrūpaṁ tāmasamasmādviparyastam ॥ 23 ॥
adhyavasāyo buddhilakṣaṇam । adhyavasānamadhyavasāyaḥ । yathā bīje bhaviṣyadvṛttiko'ṅkurastadvadadhyavasāyaḥ । ayaṁ ghaṭaḥ, ayaṁ paṭaḥ, ityevaṁ sati yā sā buddhiriti lakṣyate ।
sā ca buddhiraṣṭāṅgikā, sāttvikatāmasarūpabhedāt । tatra buddheḥ sāttvikaṁ rūpaṁ caturvidhaṁ bhavati – dharmaḥ, jñānaṁ, vairāgyaṁ, aiśvaryaṁ ceti । tatra dharmo nāma dayādānayamaniyamalakṣaṇaḥ । tatra yamā niyamāśca pātañjale'bhihitāḥ । ’ahiṁsāsatyāsteyabrahmacaryāparigrahā yamāḥ’ (yo.sū.2,30) । śaucasantoṣatapaḥsvādhyāyeśvarapraṇidhānāni niyamāḥ’ (yo.sū.2,32) । jñānaṁ, prakāśaḥ, avagamaḥ, bhānamiti paryāyāḥ । tacca dvividham । bāhyamābhyantaraṁ ceti । tatra bāhyaṁ nāma vedāḥ śikṣākalpavyākaraṇaniruktacchandojyotiṣākhyaṣaḍaṅgasahitāḥ । purāṇāni, nyāyamīmāṁsādharmaśāstrāṇi ceti । ābhyantaraṁ prakṛtipuruṣajñānam । iyaṁ prakṛtiḥ sattvarajastamasāṁ sāmyāvasthā, ayaṁ puruṣaḥ siddho nirguṇo vyāpī cetana iti । tatra bāhyajñānena lokapaṅktirlokānurāga ityarthaḥ, ābhyantareṇa jñānena mokṣa ityarthaḥ । vairāgyamapi dvividhaṁ, bāhyamābhyantaraṁ ca । bāhyaṁ dṛṣṭaviṣayavaitṛṣṇyaṁ, arjanarakṣaṇakṣayasaṁgahiṁsādoṣadarśanāt viraktasya । ābhyantaraṁ – pradhānamapyatra svapnendrajālasadṛśamiti viraktasya mokṣepsoryadutpadyate tadābhyantaraṁ vairāgyam । aiśvaryamīśvarabhāvaḥ । taccāṣṭaguṇam –aṇimā, mahimā, garimā, laghimā, prāptiḥ, prākāmyaṁ, īśitvaṁ, vaśitvaṁ, yatrakāmāvasāyitvaṁ ceti । aṇorbhāvo'ṇimā, sūkṣmo bhūtvā jagati vicaratīti । mahimā, mahān bhūtvā vicaratīti, laghimā, mṛṇālītūlāvayavādapi laghutayā puṣpakesarāgreṣvapi tiṣṭhati । prāptiḥ, abhimataṁ vastu yatratatrāvasthitaṁ prāpnoti । prākāmyaṁ, prakāmato yadevecchati tadeva vidadhāti । īśitvaṁ, prabhutayā trailokyamapi īṣṭe । vaśitvaṁ, sarvaṁ vaśībhavati । yatrakāmāvasāyitvaṁ, brahmādistambaparyantaṁ yatra kāmastatraivāsya svecchayā sthānāsanavihārānācaratīti । catvāri etāni buddheḥ sāttvikāni rūpāṇi। yadā sattvena rajastamasī abhibhūte tadā pumān buddhiguṇān dharmādīnāpnoti ।
kiṁ cānyat tāmasamasmādviparyastam । asmāt dharmāderviparītaṁ tāmasaṁ buddhirūpam । tatra dharmādviparīto'dharmaḥ । evamajñānaṁ, avairāgyaṁ, anaiśvaryamiti । evaṁ sāttvikaistāmasaiḥ svarūpairaṣṭāṅgā buddhistriguṇādavyaktādutpadyate ॥ 23 ॥
evaṁ buddhilakṣaṇamuktaṁ, ahaṅkāralakṣaṇamucyate –
abhimāno'haṅkārastasmāddvividhaḥ pravartate sargaḥ ।
ekādaśakaśca gaṇastanmātraḥ pañcakaścaiva ॥ 24 ॥
ekādaśakaśca gaṇaḥ । ekādaśendriyāṇi । tathā tanmātro gaṇaḥ pañcakaḥ, pañcalakṣaṇopetaḥ । śabdatanmātrasparśatanmātrarūpatanmātrarasatanmātragandhatanmātralakṣaṇopetaḥ ॥ 24 ॥
kiṁ lakṣaṇāt sarga ityetadāha –
sāttvika ekādaśakaḥ pravartate vaikṛtādahaṅkārāt ।
bhūtādestanmātraḥ sa tāmasaḥ, taijasādubhayam ॥ 25 ॥
sattvenābhibhūte yadā rajastamasī ahaṅkāre bhavatastadā so'haṅkāraḥ sāttvikaḥ । tasya ca pūrvācāryaiḥ saṁjñā kṛtā vaikṛta iti । tasmāt vaikṛtāt ahaṅkārādekāśaka indriyagaṇa utpadyate । tasmāt sāttvikāni viśuddhānīndriyāṇi svaviṣayasamarthāni । tasmāducyate – sāttvika ekādaśakaḥ iti ।
kiṁ cānyat, bhūtādestanmātraḥ sa tāmasaḥ । tamasā'bhibhūte sattvarajasī ahaṅkāre yadā bhavataḥ so'haṅkārastāmasa ucyate । tasya pūrvācāryakṛtā saṁjñā bhūtādiḥ । tasmādbhūtādeḥ ahaṅkārāt tanmātraḥ pañcako gaṇa utpadyate । bhūtānāmādibhūtastamobahulastenoktaḥ sa tāmasa iti । tasmādbhūtādeḥ pañcatanmātrako gaṇaḥ ।
kiṁ ca, taijasādubhayam । yadā rajasābhibhūte sattvatamasī bhavatastadā tasmāt so'haṅkārastaijasa iti saṁjñā labhate । tasmāttaijasādubhayamutpadyate । ubhayamiti ekādaśo gaṇaḥ, tanmātraḥ pañcakaḥ । yo'yaṁ sāttviko'haṅkāro vaikṛtiko vaikṛto bhūtvā ekādaśendriyāṇyutpādayati sa taijasamahaṅkāraṁ sahāyaṁ gṛhṇāti । sāttviko niṣkriyaḥ, sa taijasayukta indriyotpattau samarthaḥ । tathā tāmaso'haṅkāro bhūtādisaṁjñito niṣkriyatvāt taijasenāhaṅkāreṇa kriyāvatā yuktastanmātrāṇyutpādayati । tenoktaṁ – taijasādubhayamiti । evaṁ taijasenāhaṅkāreṇendriyāṇyekādaśa pañcatanmātrāṇi kṛtāni bhavanti ॥ 25 ॥
sāttvika ekādaśaka ityuktaḥ, yo vaikṛtāt sāttvikādahaṅkārādutpadyate tasya kā saṁjñetyāha –
buddhīndriyāṇi cakṣuḥśrotraghrāṇarasanasparśanakāni ।
vākpāṇipādapāyūpasthān karmendriyāṇyāhuḥ ॥ 26 ॥
cakṣurādīni sparśanaparyantāni buddhīndriyāṇyucyante । spṛśyate'nena iti sparśanaṁ, tvagindriyam । tadvācī siddhaṁ sparśanaśabdo'sti, tenedaṁ paṭhyate sparśanakānīti । śabdasparśarūparasagandhān pañca viṣayān budhyante avagacchantīti pañcabuddhīndriyāṇi ।
vākpāṇipādapāyūpasthān karmendriyāṇyāhuḥ । karma kurvantīti karmendriyāṇi । tatra vāk vadati, hastau nānāvyāpāraṁ kurutaḥ, pādau gamanāgamanam, pāyurutsargaṁ karoti, upastha ānandaṁ prajotpattyā॥26॥
evaṁ buddhīndriyakarmendriyabhedena daśa indriyāṇi vyākhyātāni । mana ekādaśaṁ kimātmakaṁ kiṁsvarūpaṁ ceti taducyate –
ubhayātmakamatra manaḥ saṁkalpakamindriyaṁ ca sādhyarmyāt ।
guṇapariṇāmaviśeṣānnānātvaṁ bāhyabhedāśca ॥ 27 ॥
atrendriyavarge mana ubhayātmakam । buddhīndriyeṣu buddhīndriyavat, karmendriyeṣu karmendriyavat । kasmāt, buddhīndriyāṇāṁ pravṛttiṁ kalpayati karmendriyāṇāṁ ca । tasmādubhayātmakaṁ manaḥ । saṅkalpayatīti saṅkalpakam ।
kiṁ cānyat, indriyaṁ ca sādharmyāt । samānadharmabhāvāt । sāttvikāhaṅkārād buddhīndriyāṇi karmendriyāṇi manasā sahotpadyamānāni manasaḥ sādharmyaṁ prati (pādayanti) । tasmāt sādharmyānmano'pīndriyam । evametānyekādaśendriyāṇi sāttvikādvaikṛtādahaṅkārādutpannāni । tatra manasaḥ kā vṛttiriti – saṅkalpo vṛttiḥ । buddhīndriyāṇāṁ śabdādayo vṛttayaḥ, karmendriyāṇāṁ vacanādayaḥ।
athaitānīndriyāṇi bhīnnāni bhinnārthagrāhakāṇi kimīśvareṇa uta svabhāvena kṛtāni, yataḥ pradhānabuddhyahaṅkārā acetanāḥ, puruṣo'pyakartā, ityatrāha – iha sāṁkhyānāṁ svabhāvo nāma kaścitkāraṇamasti । atrocyate – guṇapariṇāma-viśeṣānnānātvaṁ bāhyabhedāśca । imānyekādaśendriyāṇi śabdasparśarūparasagandhāḥ pañcānām, vacanādānaviharaṇotsargānandāśca pañcānām, saṁkalpaśca manasaḥ । evamete bhinnānāmevendriyāṇām arthāḥ, guṇapariṇāmaviśeṣāt – guṇānāṁ pariṇāmo guṇapariṇāmaḥ । tasya viśeṣāt indriyāṇāṁ nanātvaṁ bāhyabhedāśca । athaitannānātvaṁ neśvareṇa, nāhaṅkāreṇa, na buddhyā, na pradhānena, na puruṣeṇa, svabhāvāt kṛtaguṇapariṇāmeneti । guṇānāmacetanatvānna pravartate; pravartata eva । kathaṁ – vakṣyatīhaiva –
vatsavivṛddhinimittaṁ kṣīrasya yathā pravṛttirajñasya ।
puruṣasya vimokṣārthaṁ tathā pravṛttiḥ pradhānasya ॥
evamacetanā guṇāḥ ekādaśendriyabhāvena pravartante । viśeṣā api tatkṛtā eva । yenoccaiḥ pradeśe cakṣuravalokanāya sthitaṁ, tathā ghrāṇaṁ, tathā śretraṁ, tathā jihvā, svadeśe svārthagrahaṇāya । evaṁ karmendriyāṇyapi yathāyathaṁ svārthasamarthāni svadeśāvasthitāni svabhāvato guṇapariṇāmaviśeṣādeva, na tadartha api । yata uktaṁ śāstrāntare, “guṇā guṇeṣu vartante” । guṇānāṁ yā vṛttiḥ sā guṇaviṣayā eveti bāhyārthā vijñeyā guṇakṛtā evetyarthaḥ pradhānaṁ yasya kāraṇamiti ॥ 27 ॥
athendriyasya kasya kā vṛttirityucyate –
śābdādiṣu pañcānāmālocanamātramiṣyate vṛttiḥ ।
vacanādānaviharaṇotsargānandāśca pañcānām ॥ 28 ॥
mātraśabdo viśeṣārthaḥ, aviśeṣavyāvṛttyarthaḥ । yathā bhikṣāmātraṁ labhyate nānyo viśeṣa iti, tathā cakṣū rūpamātre na rasādiṣu । evaṁ śeṣāṇyapi । tadyathā cakṣuṣo rūpaṁ, jihvāyā rasaḥ, ghrāṇasya gandhaḥ, śrotrasya śabdah, tvacaḥ sparśaḥ । evameṣāṁ buddhīndriyāṇāṁ vṛttiḥ kathitā ।
karmendriyāṇāṁ vṛttiḥ kathyate – vacanādānaviharaṇotsargānandāśca pañcānām । karmendriyāṇāmityarthaḥ । vāco vacanaṁ, hastayorādānaṁ, pādayorviharaṇaṁ, pāyorbhuktasyāhārasya pariṇatamalotsargaḥ, upasthasyānandaḥ sutotpattiḥ, viṣayāḥ vṛttiriti sambandhaḥ ॥ 28 ॥
adhunā buddhyahaṅkāramanasāmucyate –
svālakṣaṇyaṁ vṛttistrayasya saiṣā bhavatyasāmānyā ।
sāmānyakaraṇavṛttiḥ prāṇādyā vāyavaḥ pañca ॥ 29 ॥
svalakṣaṇasvabhāvā svālakṣaṇyā । adhyavasāyo buddhiriti lakṣaṇamuktaṁ, saiva buddhivṛttiḥ । tathā abhimāno'haṅkāra ityabhimānalakṣaṇo'bhimānavṛttiśca । saṁkalpakaṁ mana iti lakṣaṇamuktaṁ, tena saṁkalpa eva manaso vṛttiḥ । trayasya buddhyahaṅkāramanasāṁ svālakṣaṇyā vṛttiḥ ।
asāmānyā । yā prāgabhihitā buddhīndriyāṇāṁ ca vṛttiḥ sā'pyasāmānyaiveti ।
idānīṁ sāmānyā vṛttirākhyāyate । sāmānyakaraṇavṛttiḥ, sāmānyena karaṇānāṁ vṛttiḥ । prāṇādyā vāyavaḥ pañca । prāṇāpānasamānodānavyānā iti pañca vāyavaḥ sarvendriyāṇāṁ sāmānyā vṛttiḥ । yataḥ prāṇo nāma vāyuḥ mukhanāsikāntargocaraḥ, tasya yat spandanaṁ karma tat trayodaśavidhasyāpi sāmānyā vṛttiḥ । sati prāṇe yasmāt karaṇānāmātmalābha iti । prāṇo'pi pañjaraśakunivat sarvasya calanaṁ karotīti । prāṇanāt prāṇa ityucyate । tathā apanayanādapānaḥ, tatra yatspandanaṁ tadapi sāmānyavṛttirindriyasya । tathā samāno madhyadeśavartī ya āhārādīnāṁ samaṁ nayanāt samāno vāyuḥ, tatra yatspandanaṁ tat sāmānyakaraṇavṛttiḥ । tathā ūrdhvārohaṇādutkarṣāt unnayanādvā udāno nābhideśamastakāntargocaraḥ, tatrodāne yatspandanaṁ tat sarvendriyāṇāṁ sāmānyā vṛttiḥ । kiṁ ca, śarīravyāptirabhyantaravibhāgaśca yena kriyate'sau śarīravyāptyā ākāśavadvyānaḥ, tatra yat spandanaṁ tat karaṇajālasya sāmānyā vṛttiriti । evamete pañca vāyavaḥ sāmānyakaraṇavṛttiriti vyākhyātāḥ, trayodaśavidhasyāpi karaṇasāmānyā vṛttirityarthaḥ ॥ 29 ॥
yugapaccatuṣṭayasya tu vṛttiḥ kramaśaśca tasya nirdiṣṭā ।
dṛṣṭe tathā'pyadṛṣṭe trayasya tatpūrvikā vṛttiḥ ॥ 30 ॥
yugapaccatuṣṭayasya । buddhyahaṅkāramanasāmekaikendriyasambandhe sati catuṣṭayaṁ bhavati । catuṣṭayasya dṛṣṭe prativiṣayādhyavaśāye yugapad vṛttiḥ । buddhyahaṅkāramanaścakṣūṁṣi yugapadekakālaṁ rūpaṁ paśyanti, sthāṇurayamiti । buddhyahaṅkāramanojihvā yugapadrasaṁ gṛhṇāti buddhyahaṅkāramanoghrāṇāni yugapadgandhaṁ gṛhṇanti । tathā tvakśrotre api ।
kiṁ ca kramaśaśca tasya nirdiṣṭā । tasyeti catuṣṭayasya kramaśaśca vṛttirbhavati । yathā kaścit pathi gacchan dūrādeva dṛṣṭvā sthāṇurayaṁ puruṣo veti saṁśaye sati tatroparūḍhaṁ talliṅgaṁ paśyati śakuniṁ vā, tatastasya manasā saṁkalpote saṁśaye vyavacchedabhūtā buddhirbhavati sthāṇurayamiti । ataḥ ahaṅkāraśca niścayārthaḥ sthāṇureveti । evaṁ buddhyahaṅkāramanaścakṣuṣāṁ kramaśo vṛttirdṛṣṭā । yathā rūpe tathā śabdādiṣvapi boddhavyā । dṛṣṭe, dṛṣṭaviṣaye ।
kiṁ cānyat, tathā'pyadṛṣṭe trayasya tatpūrvikā vṛttiḥ । adṛṣṭe'nāgate'tīte ca kāle buddhyahaṅkāramanasāṁ rūpe cakṣuḥpūrvikā trayasya vṛttiḥ, sparśe tvakpūrvikā, gandhe ghrāṇapūrvikā, rase rasanapūrvikā, śabde śravaṇapūrvikā buddhyahaṅkāramanasāmanāgate bhaviṣyati kāle atīte ca taptūrvikā kramaśo vṛttiḥ, vartamāne yugapat kramaśaśceti॥30॥
kiṁ ca –
svāṁ svāṁ pratipadyante parasparākūtahetukāṁ vṛttim ।
puruṣārthā eva heturna kenacitkāryate karaṇam ॥ 31 ॥
svāṁ svāmiti vīpsā । buddhyahaṅkāramanāṁsi svāṁ svāṁ vṛttiṁ parasparākūtahetukāṁ, ’ākūtādarasambhrama’ iti । pratipadyante puruṣārthakaraṇāya buddherahaṅkārādayaḥ । buddhirahaṅkārākūtaṁ jñātvā svasvaviṣayaṁ pratipadyate ।
kimarthamiti cet – puruṣārtha eva hetuḥ । pūruṣārthaḥ kartavya ityevamarthaṁ guṇānāṁ pravṛttiḥ । tasmādetāni karaṇāni puruṣārthaṁ prakāśayanti । (yadyacetanānīti) kathaṁ svayaṁ pravartante – na kenacit kāryate karaṇam । puruṣārtha evaikaḥ kārayatīti vākyārthaḥ । na kenacit īśvareṇa puruṣeṇa kāryate prabodhyate karaṇam ॥31॥
buddhyādi katividhaṁ tadityucyate –
karaṇaṁ trayodaśavidhaṁ tadāharaṇadhāraṇaprakāśakaram ।
kāryaṁ ca tasya daśadhā''hāryaṁ dhāryaṁ prakāśyaṁ ca ॥ 32 ॥
karaṇaṁ mahadādi trayodaśavidhaṁ boddhavyam । pañca buddhīndriyāṇi cakṣurādīni, pañca karmendriyāṇi vāgādīni iti trayodaśavidhaṁ karaṇam ।
tatkiṁ karotītyetadāha – tadāharaṇadhāraṇaprakāśakaram । tatrāharaṇaṁ dhāraṇaṁ ca karmendriyāṇi kurvanti, prakāśa buddhīndriyāṇi ।
katividhaṁ kāryaṁ tasyeti taducyate । kāryaṁ ca tasya daśadhā । tasya karaṇasya kāryaṁ kartavyaṁ daśadhā daśaprakāram । śabdasparśarūparasagandhākhyaṁ, vacanādānaviharaṇotsargānandākhyametaddaśavidhaṁ kāryaṁ, buddhīndriyaiḥ prakāśitaṁ karmendriyāṇyāharanti dhārayanti ceti ॥ 32 ॥
kiṁ ca –
antaḥkaraṇaṁ trividhaṁ daśadhā bāhyaṁ trayasya viṣayākhyam ।
sāmpratakālaṁ bāhyaṁ trikālamābhyantaraṁ karaṇam ॥ 33 ॥
antaḥkaraṇamiti । buddhyahaṅkāramanāṁsi trividhaṁ, mahadādibhedāt ।
daśadhā bāhyaṁ ca । buddhīndriyāṇi pañca, karmendriyāṇi pañca, daśavidhametatkaraṇaṁ bāhyam ।
tat trayasya viṣayākhyam । buddhyahaṅkāramanasāṁ bhogyam ।
sāmpratakālam । śrotraṁ vartamānameva śabdaṁ śṛṇoti nātītaṁ na ca bhaviṣyantam, cakṣurapi vartamānaṁ rūpaṁ paśyati nātītaṁ nā'nāgatam, tvag vartamānaṁ sparśam, jihvā vartamānaṁ rasam, nāsikā vartamānaṁ gandhaṁ nātītānāgataṁ ceti evaṁ karmendriyāṇi – vāg vartamānaṁ śabdamuccārayati nātīti nā'nāgataṁ ca, pāṇī vartamānaṁ ghaṭamādadāte nātītamanāgataṁ ca, pādau vartamānaṁ panthānaṁ viharato nātītaṁ nāpyanāgatam, pāyūpasthau ca vartamānāvutsargānandau kuruto nātītau nā'nāgatau । evaṁ bāhyaṁ karaṇaṁ sāmpratakālamuktam ।
trikālamābhyantaṁ karaṇam । buddhyahaṅkāramanāṁsi trikālaviṣayāṇi buddhirvartamānaṁ ghaṭaṁ budhyate atītamanāgataṁ ceti । ahaṅkāro vartamāne'bhimānaṁ karoti atīte'nāgate ca । tathā mano vartamāne saṁkalpaṁ kurute atīte'nāgate ca । evaṁ trikālamābhyantaraṁ karaṇamiti ॥ 33 ॥
idānīmindriyāṇi kati saviśeṣaṁ viṣayaṁ gṛhṇanti, kāni nirviśeṣamiti taducyate –
buddhīndriyāṇi teṣāṁ pañca viśeṣāviśeṣaviṣayiṇī ।
vāgbhavati śabdaviṣayā śeṣāṇi tu pañcaviṣayāṇi ॥ 34 ॥
buddhīndriyāṇi । tāni saviśeṣaṁ viṣayaṁ gṛhṇanti । saviśeṣaviṣayaṁ mānuṣāṇāṁ śabdasparśarūparasagandhān sukhaduḥkhamohayuktān buddhīndriyāṇi prakāśayanti । devānāṁ nirviśeṣān viṣayān prakāśayanti ।
tathā karmendriyāṇāṁ madhye vāgbhavati śabdaviṣayā । devānāṁ mānuṣāṇāṁ ca vāgvadati ślokādīnuccārayati । tasmād devānāṁ manuṣyāṇāṁ ca vāgindriyaṁ tulyam ।
śeṣāṇyapi vāgvyatiriktāni pāṇipādapāyūpasthasaṁjñitāni pañcaviṣayāṇi । pañca viṣayāḥ śabdādayo yeṣāṁ tāni pañcaviṣayāṇi । śabdasparśarūparasagandhāḥ pāṇau santi । pañcaśabdādilakṣaṇāyāṁ bhuvi pādo viharati । pāyvindriyaṁ pañcaklṛptam utsargaṁ karoti । tathopasthendriyaṁ pañcalakṣaṇaṁ śukramānandayati ॥ 34 ॥
sāntaḥkaraṇā buddhiḥ sarvaṁ viṣayamavagāhate yasmāt ।
tasmāt trividhaṁ karaṇaṁ dvāri dvārāṇi śeṣāṇi ॥ 35 ॥
sāntaḥkaraṇā buddhiḥ । ahaṅkāramanaḥsahitetyarthaḥ । yasmāt sarvaṁ viṣayamavagāhate gṛhṇāti, triṣvapi kāleṣu śabdādīn gṛhṇāti, tasmāt trividhaṁ karaṇaṁ dvāri । dvārāṇi śeṣāṇi । karaṇānīti vākyaśeṣaḥ ॥ 35 ॥
kiṁ cānyat –
ete pradīpakalpāḥ parasparavilakṣaṇā guṇaviśeṣāḥ ।
kṛtsnaṁ puruṣasyārthaṁ prakāśya buddhau prayacchanti ॥ 36 ॥
yāni karaṇānyuktāni । ete guṇaviśeṣāḥ kiṁ viśiṣṭāḥ pradīpakalpāḥ pradīpavadviṣayaprakāśakāḥ।
parasparavilakṣaṇāḥ । asadṛśāḥ, bhinnaviṣayā ityarthaḥ । (guṇaviṣayā ityarthaḥ) ।
guṇaviśeṣāḥ । guṇebhyo jātāḥ ।
kṛtsnaṁ puruṣasyārtham । buddhīndriyāṇi, karmendriyāṇi, ahaṅkāraḥ, manaścaitāni svaṁ svamarthaṁ puruṣasya prakāśya buddhau prayacchanti, buddhisthaṁ kurvantītyarthaḥ । yato buddhisthaṁ sarvaṁ viṣayasukhādikaṁ puruṣa upalabhyate ॥ 36 ॥
idaṁ cānyat –
sarvaṁ pratyupabhogaṁ yasmāt puruṣasya sādhayati buddhiḥ ।
saiva ca viśinaṣṭi punaḥ pradhānapuruṣāntaraṁ sūkṣmam ॥ 37 ॥
sarvendriyagataṁ triṣvapi kāleṣu, sarvam । pratyupabhogaṁ, upabhogaṁ prati । devamanuṣyatiryagbuddhīndriyakarmendriyadvāreṇa sāntaḥkaraṇā buddhiḥ sādhayati sampādayati yasmāt, tasmāt saiva ca viśinaṣṭi pradhānapuruṣayorviṣayavibhāgaṁ karoti । pradhānapuruṣāntaraṁ nānātvamityarthaḥ ।
sūkṣmamityanadhikṛtatapaścaraṇairaprāpyam । iyaṁ prakṛtiḥ sattvarajastamasāṁ sāmyāvasthā, iyaṁ buddhiḥ, ayamahaṅkāraḥ, etāni pañcatanmātrāṇi, ekādaśendriyāṇi, pañca mahābhūtāni, ayamanyaḥ puruṣa ebhyo vyatiriktaḥ, ityevaṁ bodhayati buddhiryasyāvāyāt apavargo bhavati ॥ 37 ॥
pūrvamuktaṁ viśeṣāviśeṣaviṣayāṇi, tat ke viṣayāḥ tān darśayati – tanmātrāṇyaviśeṣāḥ tebhyo bhūtāni pañca pañcabhyaḥ ।
tanmātrāṇyaviśeṣāḥ tebhyo bhūtāni pañca pañcabhyaḥ ।
ete smṛtā viśeṣāḥ śāntā ghorāśca mūḍhāśca ॥ 38 ॥
yāni pañca tanmātrāṇi ahaṅkārādutpadyante tāni – śabdatanmātraṁ, sparśatanmātraṁ, rūpatanmātraṁ, gandhatanmātraṁ – etāni aviśeṣā ucyante । devānāmete sukhalakṣaṇā viṣayā duḥkhamoharahitāḥ ।
tebhyaḥ pañcabhyaḥ tanmātrebhyaḥ pañca mahābhūtāni, pṛthivyaptejovāyvākāśasaṁjñāni, yānyutpadyante, ete smṛtā viśeṣāḥ । gandhatanmātrāt pṛthivī, rasatanmātrādāpaḥ, sparśatanmātrādvāyuḥ, śabdatanmātrādākāśam, ityevamutpannāni etāni mahābhūtāni ।
ete viśeṣā mānuṣāṇāṁ viṣayāḥ, śāntāḥ sulakṣaṇāḥ, ghorā duḥkhalakṣaṇāḥ, mūḍhā mohajanakāḥ । yathākāśaṁ kasyacidanavakāśādantargṛhādernirgatasya sukhātmakaṁ śāntaṁ bhavati, tadeva panthānaṁ gacchato vanamārgād bhraṣṭasya diṅmohānmūḍhaṁ bhavati । evaṁ vāyurgharmārtasya śānto bhavati, śītārttasya ghoraḥ, dhūlīśarkarāvimiśro'tivān mūḍha iti। evaṁ tejaḥprabhṛtiṣu draṣṭavyam ॥ 38 ॥
athā'nye viśeṣāḥ –
sūkṣmā mātāpitṛjāḥ saha prabhūtaistridhā viśeṣāḥ syuḥ ।
sūkṣmāsteṣāṁ niyatā mātāpitṛjā nivartante ॥ 39 ॥
sūkṣmāḥ tanmātrāṇi । yatsaṁgṛhītaṁ sūkṣmaśarīraṁ mahadādiliṅgaṁ sadā tiṣṭhati saṁsarati ca te sūkṣmāḥ ।
tathā mātāpitṛjāḥ sthūlaśarīropacāyakā ṛtukāle mātāpitṛsaṁyoge śoṇitaśukramiśrībhāvena udarāntaḥ sūkṣmaśarīrasyopacayaṁ kurvanti । tat sūkṣmaśarīraṁ punarmāturaśitapītanānāvidharasena nābhīnibandhenāpyāyate ।
tathā prārabdhaṁ śarīraṁ sūkṣmairmātāpitṛjaiśca saha mahābhūtaiḥ tridhā viśeṣaiḥ pṛṣṭhodarajaṅghākaṭyuraḥśiraḥprabhṛti ṣāṭkauśikaṁ pāñcabhautikaṁ, rudhiramāṁsasnāyuśukrāsthimajjāsaṁbhṛtaṁ – ākāśo'vakāśadānāt, vāyurvardhanāt, tejaḥpākāt, āpaḥ saṅgrahāt, pṛthivī dhāraṇāt – samastāvayavopetaṁ māturudarādbahirbhavati । evamete trividhā viśeṣāḥ syuḥ ।
atrāha – ke nityāḥ ke vā'nityāḥ – sūkṣmāsteṣāṁ niyatāḥ । sūkṣmāstanmātrasaṁjñakāsteṣāṁ madhye niyatā nityāḥ । tairārabdhaṁ śarīraṁ, karmavaśāt paśumṛgapakṣisarīsṛpasthāvarajātiṣu saṁsarati, dharmavaśādindrādilokeṣu । evametat niyataṁ sūkṣmaśariraṁ saṁsarati na yāvat jñānamutpadyate । utpanne jñāne vidvān śarīraṁ tyaktvā mokṣaṁ gacchati । tasmādete viśeṣāḥ sūkṣmāḥ nityā iti ।
mātāpitṛjā nivartante । tat sūkṣmaśarīraṁ parityajya ihaiva prāṇatyāgavelāyāṁ mātāpitṛjā nivartante । maraṇakāle mātāpitṛjaṁ śarīramihaiva nivṛttya bhūmyādiṣu pralīyate yathātattvam ॥ 39 ॥
sūkṣmaṁ ca kathaṁ saṁsarati tadāha –
pūrvotpannamasaktaṁ niyataṁ mahadādisūkṣmaparyantam ।
saṁsarati nirupabhogaṁ bhāvairadhivāsitaṁ liṅgam ॥ 40 ॥
yadā lokā anutpannāḥ pradhānādisarge tadā sūkṣmaśariramutpannamiti ।
kiṁ cānyat, asaktam । na saṁyuktaṁ tiryagyonidevamānuṣasthāneṣu, sūkṣmatvāt kutracidasaktaṁ, parvatādiṣvapratihataprasaraṁ saṁsarati gacchati ।
niyataṁ, nityam । yāvanna jñānamutpadyate tāvatsaṁsarati ।
tacca mahadādisūkṣmaparyantam । mahānādau yasya tanmahādādi, buddhirahaṅkāro mana iti pañca tanmātrāṇi । sūkṣmaparyantaṁ tanmātraparyantaṁ saṁsarati śūlagrahapipīlikāvat trīnapi lokān ।
nirupabhogam । bhogarahitam । tat sūkṣmaśarīraṁ pitṛmātṛjena bāhyenopacayena kriyādharmagrahaṇāt bhogeṣu samarthaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ ।
bhāvairadhivāsitam । purastādbhāvān dharmādīn vakṣyāmaḥ, tairadhivāsitamuparañjitam ।
liṅgamiti । pralayakāle mahadādisūkṣmaparyantaṁ karaṇopetaṁ pradhāne līyate । asaṁsaraṇayuktaṁ sat āsargakālamatra vartate, prakṛtimohabandhanabaddhaṁ sat saṁsaraṇādikriyāsvasamarthamiti । punaḥ sargakāle saṁsarati tasmāt liṅgaṁ sūkṣmam ॥ 40 ॥
kiṁ prayojanena trayodaśavidhaṁ karaṇaṁ saṁsaratītyevaṁ codite satyāha –
citraṁ yathāśrayamṛte sthāṇvādibhyo yathā vinā chāyā ।
tadvadvinā'viśeṣaiḥ na tiṣṭhati nirāśrayaṁ liṅgam ॥ 41॥
citraṁ yathā kuḍyāśrayamṛte na tiṣṭhati, sthāṇvādibhyaḥ kīlakādibhyo vinā chāyā na tiṣṭhati, tairvinā na bhavati । ādigrahaṇādyathā śaityaṁ vinā nāpo bhavanti śaityaṁ vā'dbhirvinā, agniruṣṇaṁ vinā, vāyuḥ sparśaṁ vinā, ākāśamavakāśaṁ vinā, pṛthivī gandhaṁ vinā, tadvat । etena dṛṣṭāntena nyāyena vinā'viśeṣaiḥ aviśeṣaistanmātrairvinā na tiṣṭhati । atha viśeṣabhūtāni ucyante, śarīraṁ pañcabhūtamayaṁ vaiśeṣiṇā śarīreṇa vinā kva liṅgasthānaṁ ceti, kva ekadehamujjhati tadevānyamāśrayati ।
nirāśrayam । āśrayarahitaṁ liṅgaṁ, trayodaśavidhaṁ karaṇamityarthaḥ ॥ 41 ॥
kimarthaṁ taducyate –
puruṣārthahetukamidaṁ nimittanaimittikaprasaṅgena ।
prakṛtervibhutvayogāt naṭavadvyavatiṣṭhate liṅgam ॥ 42 ॥
puruṣārthaḥ kartavya iti pradhānaṁ pravartate । sa ca dvividhaḥ – śabdādyupalabdhilakṣaṇo guṇapuruṣāntaropalabdhilakṣaṇaśca । śabdādyupalabdhirbrahmādilokeṣu gandhādibhogāvāptiḥ, guṇapuruṣāntaropalabdhirmokṣa iti । tasmāduktaṁ puruṣārthahetukamidaṁ sūkṣmaśarīraṁ pravartata iti ।
nimittanaimittikaprasaṅgena । nimittaṁ dharmādi, naimittikaṁ, ūrdhvagamanādi purastādeva vakṣyāmaḥ । prasaṅgena, prasaktyā ।
prakṛteḥ pradhānasya vibhutvayogāt । yathā rājā svarāṣṭre vibhutvāt yadyadicchati tattat karotīti, tathā prakṛteḥ sarvatra vibhutvayogāt nimittanaimittikaprasaṅgena vyavatiṣṭhate, pṛthak pṛthagdehadhāraṇe liṅgasya vyavasthāṁ karoti।
liṅgaṁ, sūkṣmaiḥ paramāṇubhistanmātrairupacitaṁ śarīraṁ trayodaśavidhakaraṇopetaṁ mānuṣadevatiryagyoniṣu vyavatiṣṭhate। kathaṁ – naṭavat । yathā naṭaḥ paṭāntareṇa praviśya devo bhūtvā nirgacchati, punarmānuṣaḥ, punarvidūṣakaḥ, evaṁ liṅganimittanaimittikaprasaṅgenodarāntaḥ praviśya hastī, strī, pumān bhavati ॥ 42 ॥
bhāvairadhivāsitaṁ liṅgaṁ saṁsaratītyuktaṁ, tat ke bhāvā ityāha –
sāṁsiddhikāśca bhāvāḥ prākṛtikā vaikṛtikāśca dharmādyāḥ ।
dṛṣṭāḥ karaṇāśrayiṇaḥ kāryāśrayiṇaśca kalalādyāḥ ॥ 43 ॥
bhāvāstrividhāścintyante । sāṁsiddhikāḥ prākṛtā vaikṛtāśca । tatra sāṁsiddhikā yathā bhagavataḥ kapilasyādi sarge utpadyamānasya catvāro bhāvāḥ sahotpannāḥ – dharmaḥ, jñānaṁ, vairāgyam, aiśvaryamiti । prākṛtāḥ kathyante-brahmaṇaścatvāraḥ putrāḥ sanakasanandanasanātanasanatkumārā babhūvuḥ । teṣāmutpannakāryakāraṇānāṁ śarīriṇāṁ ṣoḍaśavarṣāṇām ete bhāvāścatvāraḥ samutpannāḥ, tasmādete prākṛtāḥ । tathā vaikṛtā yathā – ācāryamūrtiṁ nimittaṁ kṛtvā asmadādīnāṁ jñānamutpadyate, jñānādvairāgyaṁ, vairāgyāddharmaḥ, dharmādaiśvaryamiti । ācāryamūrtirapi vikṛtiriti tasmādvaikṛtā ete bhāvā ucyante, yairadhivāsitaṁ liṅgaṁ saṁsarati । ete catvāro bhāvāḥ sāttvikāḥ । tāmasāḥ viparītāḥ, ’sāttvikametadrūpaṁ tāmasamasmādviparyastam’ ityatra vyākhyātāḥ । evamaṣṭau – dharmaḥ, jñānaṁ, vairāgyam, aiśvaryam, adharmaḥ, ajñānam, avairāgyam anaiśvaryamit ।
aṣṭau bhāvāḥ kva vartante – dṛṣṭāḥ karaṇāśrayiṇaḥ । buddhiḥ karaṇaṁ tadāśrayiṇaḥ । etaduktam – ’adhyavasāyo buddhirdharmo jñānam’ iti ।
kāryaṁ dehastadāśrayāḥ kalalādyāḥ, ye mātṛjā ityuktāḥ । śukraśoṇitasaṁyoge vivṛddhihetukāḥ kalalādyā budbudamāṁsapeśīprabhṛtayaḥ, tathā kaumārayauvanasthaviratvādayo bhāvāḥ, annapānarasanimittāḥ niṣpadyante । ataḥ kāryāśrayiṇa ucyante annādiviṣayabhoganimittā jāyante ॥ 43 ॥
nimittanaimittikaprasaṅgeneti yaduktamatrocyate –
dharmeṇa gamanamūrdhvaṁ gamanamadhastād bhavatyadharmeṇa ।
jñānena cāpavargo viparyayādiṣyate bandhaḥ ॥ 44 ॥
dharmeṇa gamanamūrdhvam । dharme nimittaṁ kṛtvā ūrdhvaṁ upayāti । ūrdhvamityaṣṭau sthānāni gṛhyante । tadyathā – brāhmaṁ, prājāpatyaṁ, saumyam, aindraṁ, gāndharvaṁ, rākṣasaṁ, paiśācamiti । tat sūkṣmaśarīraṁ gacchati । paśumṛgapakṣisarīsṛpasthāvarāntaṣvadharmo nimittam ।
kiṁ ca, jñānena cāpavargaḥ । apavargaḥ ca pañcaviṁśatitattvajñānam । tena nimittenāpavargo mokṣaḥ । tataḥ sūkṣmaśarīraṁ nivartate, paramātmā ucyate ।
viparyayādiṣyate bandhaḥ । ajñānaṁ nimittam । sa caiva naimittikaḥ prākṛto vaikāriko dākṣiṇikaśca bandhaḥ iti vakṣyati purastāt । yadidamuktam –
prākṛtena ca bandhena tathā vaikārikeṇa ca ।dākṣiṇena tṛtīyena baddho nānyena mucyate ॥ 44 ॥
tathā'nyadapi nimittam –
vairāgyāt prakṛtilayaḥ saṁsāro bhavati rājasādrāgāt ।
aiśvaryādavighāto viparyayāt tadviparyāsaḥ ॥ 45 ॥
yathā kasyacidvairāgyamasti na tattvajñānam । tasmāt ajñānapūrvād vairāgyāt prakṛtilayaḥ, mṛto'ṣṭāsu prakṛtiṣu pradhānabuddhyahaṅkāratanmātreṣu līyate na mokṣaḥ । tato bhūyo'pi saṁsarati ।
tathā yo'yaṁ rājaso rāgaḥ – yajāmi, dakṣiṇāṁ dadāmi, yenāmuṣmiṁlloke'tra yaddivyaṁ mānuṣaṁ sukhamanubhavāmi – etasmāt rājasāt rāgāt saṁsāro bhavati ।
tathā aiśvaryādavighātaḥ । etadaiśvaryaṁ, aṣṭaguṇamaṇimādiyuktam । tasmādaiśvaryanimittāt avighāto naimittiko bhavati, brāhmādiṣu sthāneṣvaiśvaryaṁ na vihanyate ।
kiṁ cānyat, viparyayāt viparyāsaḥ । tasyāvighātasya viparyāso vighātaḥ bhavati । anaiśvaryāt sarvatra vihanyate ॥ 45 ॥
eṣa nimittaiḥ saha naimittikaḥ ṣoḍaśavidho vyākhyātaḥ, sa kimātmaka ityāha –
eṣa pratyayasargo viparyayāśaktituṣṭisiddhyākhyaḥ ।
guṇavaiṣamyavimarddena tasya bhedāstu pañcāśat ॥ 46 ॥
yathā eṣa ṣoḍaśavidho nimittanaimittikabhedaḥ vyākhyātaḥ, eṣa pratyayasarga ucyate । pratyayo buddhirityuktā, ’adhyavasāyo buddhirdharmo jñānam’ ityādi ।
sa ca pratyayasargaścaturdhā bhidyate – viparyayāśaktituṣṭisiddhākhyabhedāt । tatra saṁśayo'jñānaṁ viparyayaḥ yathā kasyacit sthāṇudarśane sthāṇurayaṁ puruṣo veti saṁśayaḥ । aśaktiryathā – tameva sthāṇuṁ samyagdṛṣṭvā saṁśayaṁ chettuṁ na śaknotītyaśaktiḥ । evaṁ tṛtīyastuṣṭyākhyo yathā – tameva sthāṇuṁ jñātuṁ saṁśayituṁ vā necchati, kimanenāsmākamityeṣā tuṣṭiḥ । caturthaḥ siddhyākhyo yathā – ānanditendriyaḥ sthāṇumārūḍhāṁ valliṁ paśyati śakuniṁ vā, tasya siddhirbhavati sthāṇurayamiti ।
evamasya caturvidhasya pratyayasargasya guṇavaiṣamyavimarddena tasya bhedāstu pañcāśat । yoṁyaṁ sattvarajastamoguṇānāṁ vaiśamyo vimarddaḥ, tena tasya pratyayasargasya pañcāśadbhedā bhavanti । tathā kvāpi sattvamutkaṭaṁ rajastamasī udāsīne, kvāpi rajaḥ, kvāpi tama iti ॥ 46 ॥
bhedāḥ kathyante –
pañca viparyayabhedā bhavantyaśaktiśca karaṇavaikalyāt ।
aṣṭāviṁśatibhedā tuṣṭirnavadhā'ṣṭadhā siddiḥ ॥ 47 ॥
pañca viparyayabhedāḥ । te yathā – tamaḥ, mohaḥ, mahāmohaḥ, tāmisraḥ, andhatāmisraḥ iti । eṣāṁ bhedānāṁ nānātvaṁ vakṣyate'nantarameveti ।
aśaktestvaṣṭāviṁśatiḥ bhedā bhavanti, karaṇavaikalyāt । tānapi vakṣyāmaḥ ।
tathā ca tuṣṭirnavadhā । ūrdhvasrotasi rājasāni jñānāni ।
tathā aṣṭavidhā siddhiḥ । sāttvikāni jñānāni tatraivordhvasrotasi। etat krameṇaiva vakṣyate॥47॥
tatra viparyayabhedā ucyante –
bhedastamaso'ṣṭavidho mohasya ca, daśavidho mahāmohaḥ ।
tāmisro'ṣṭādaśadhā, tathā bhavatyandhatāmisraḥ ॥ 48 ॥
tamasastāvadaṣṭadhā bhedaḥ । pralayaḥ ajñānāt vibhajyate । so'ṣṭāsu prakṛtiṣu līyate, pradhānabuddhyahaṅkārapañcatanmātrāṣṭāsu । tatra līnamātmānaṁ manyate mukto'hamiti, tamobheda eṣaḥ ।
aṣṭavidhasya mohasya bhedo'ṣṭavidha evetyarthaḥ । yatrāṣṭaguṇamaiśvaryaṁ tatra saṅgādindrādayo devā na mokṣaṁ prāpnuvanti । punaśca tatkṣaye saṁsarantyeṣo'ṣṭavidho moha iti ।
daśavidho mahāmohaḥ। śabdasparśarūparasagandhā devānāmete pañca viṣayāḥ sukhalakṣaṇāḥ mānuṣāṇāmapyete eva śabdādayaḥ pañca viṣayāḥ । evameteṣu daśasu mahāmoha iti ।
tāmisro'ṣṭādaśadhā । aṣṭavidhamaiśvaryaṁ, dṛṣṭānuśravikā viṣayā daśa, eteṣāmaṣṭādaśānāṁ sampadamanunandanti vipadaṁ nānumodayantyeṣo'ṣṭādaśavidho vikalpastāmisraḥ ।
tathā tāmisramaṣṭaguṇamaiśvaryaṁ, dṛṣṭānuśravikā daśaviṣayāḥ, tathā'ndhatāmisro'pyaṣṭādasabheda eva । kintu viṣayasampattau sambhogakāle ya eva mriyate, aṣṭaguṇaiśvaryādvā bhraśyate, tatastasya mahadduḥkhamutpadyate, so'ndhatāmisrra iti । evaṁ viparyayabhedāstamaḥprabhṛtayaḥ pañca pratyekaṁ bhidyamānāḥ dviṣaṣṭibhedāḥ saṁvṛttā iti ॥ 48 ॥
aśaktibhedāḥ kathyante –
ekādaśendriyavadhāḥ saha buddhivadhairaśaktiruddiṣṭā ।
saptadaśa vadhā buddherviparyayāt tuṣṭisiddhīnām ॥ 49 ॥
’bhavantyaśakteśca karaṇavaikalyādaṣṭāviṁśatibhedāḥ’ ityuddiṣṭam । tatra ekādaśendriyavadhāḥ – bādhiryam, andhatā, prasuptiḥ, upajihvikā, ghrāṇapākaḥ, mūkatā, kuṇitvaṁ, khāṁjyaṁ, gudāvartaḥ, klaibyaḥ, unmāda iti ।
saha buddhivadhairaśaktiruddiṣṭā । ye buddhivadhāstaiḥ saha aśakteraṣṭāviṁśatibhedā bhavanti ।
saptadaśa vādhā buddheḥ । saptadasa vadhāste tuṣṭibhedāsiddhibhedavaiparītyena । tuṣṭibhedā nava, siddhibhedā aṣṭau ye te, viparītaiḥ saha ekādaśa vadhāḥ, evamaṣṭāviṁśativikalpā aśaktiriti ॥ 49 ॥
viparyayāt tuṣṭisiddhīnāmeva bhedakramo draṣṭavyaḥ । tatra tuṣṭirnavadhā kathyate ।
adhyātmikāścatasraḥ prakṛtyupādānakālabhāgyākhyāḥ ।
bāhyā viṣayoparamāt pañca, nava tuṣṭayo'bhihitāḥ ॥ 50 ॥
ādhyātmikāścatasraḥ tuṣṭayaḥ । adhyātmani bhavā ādhyātmikāḥ, tāśca prakṛtyupādānakālabhāgyākhyāḥ । tatra prakṛtyākhyā – yathā kaścit prakṛtiṁ vetti tasyāḥ saguṇatvanirguṇatvaṁ ca, tena tattvaṁ tatkāryaṁ vijñāyaiva kevalaṁ tuṣṭastasya nāsti mokṣaḥ, - eṣā prakṛtyākhyā । upādānākhyā – yathā kaścidavijñāyaiva tattvānyupādānagrahaṇaṁ karoti, tridaṇḍakamaṇḍaluvividikābhyaḥ mokṣa iti, tasyāpi nāsti mokṣa iti eṣā upādānākhyā । tathā kālākhyā – kālena mokṣo bhaviṣyatīti kiṁ tattvabhyāsena, ityeṣā kālākhyā tuṣṭiḥ, tasya nāsti mokṣa iti । tathā bhāgyākhyā – bhāgyenaiva mokṣo bhaviṣyatīti bhāgyākhyā । caturdhā tuṣṭiriti ।
bāhyā viṣayoparamācca pañca । bāhyāstuṣṭayaḥ pañca viṣayoparamāt । śabdasparśarūparasagandhebhya uparato'rjunarakṣaṇakṣayasaṁgahiṁsādarśanāt । vṛddhinimittaṁ pāśupālyavāṇijyapratigrahasevāḥ kāryāḥ, etadarjanaṁ duḥkham । arjitānāṁ rakṣaṇe duḥkham । upabhogāt kṣīyata iti kṣayaduḥkham । tathā viṣayopabhogasaṁge kṛte nāstīndriyāṇāmupaśama iti saṅgadoṣaḥ । tathā nā'nupahatya bhūtānyupabhaॊga iti hoṁsādoṣaḥ । evamarjanādidoṣadarśanāt pañcaviṣayoparamāt pañca tuṣṭayaḥ ।
evamādhyātmikabāhyabhedāt nava tuṣṭayaḥ । tāsāṁ nāmāni śāstrāntare proktāni – ambhaḥ, salilam, oghaḥ, vṛṣṭiḥ, sutamaḥ, pāram, sunetram, nārīkam, anuttamāmbhasikamiti । āsāṁ tuṣṭīnāṁ viparītā aśaktibhedād buddhivadhā bhavanti । tadyathā – anambhaḥ, asalilam, anogha ityādivaiparītyād buddhivadhā iti ॥ 50 ॥
siddhirucyate –
ūhaḥ śabdo'dhyayanaṁ duḥkhavighātāstrayaḥ suhṛtprāptiḥ ।
dānaṁ ca siddhayo'ṣṭau siddheḥ pūrvo'ṅkuśastrividhaḥ ॥ 51 ॥
ūho yathā kaścinnityamūhate – kimiha satyaṁ, kiṁ paraṁ, kiṁ naiḥśreyasaṁ, kiṁ kṛtvā kṛtārthaḥ, syām – iti cintayato jñānamutpadyate pradhānādanya eva puruṣa iti, anyā buddhiḥ, anyo'haṅkāraḥ, anyāni tanmātrāṇīndriyāṇi pañca mahābhūtānītyevaṁ tattvajñānamutpadyate yena mokṣo bhavati । eṣā ūhākhyā prathamā siddhiḥ ।
tathā śabdajñānāt pradhānapuruṣabuddhyahaṅkāratanmātrendriyapañcamahābhūtaviṣayaṁ jñānaṁ bhavati, tato mokṣa ityeṣā śabdākhyā siddhiḥ ।
adhyayanād vedādiśāstrādhyayanāt pañcaviṁśatitattvajñānaṁ prāpya mokṣaṁ yāti, ityeṣā tṛtīyā siddhiḥ ।
duḥkhavighātatrayam । ādhyātmikādhibhautikādhidaivikaduḥkhatrayavighātāya guruṁ samupagamya tata upadeśānmokṣaṁ yāti । eṣā caturthī siddhiḥ । eṣaiva duḥkhatrayabhedāt tridhā kalpanīyā । iti ṣaṭ siddhayaḥ।
tathā suhṛtprāptiḥ । yathā kaścit suhṛjjñānamadhigamya mokṣaṁ gacchati । eṣā saptamī siddhiḥ ।
dānam । yathā kaścidbhagavatāṁ pratyāśrayauṣadhitridaṇḍakuṇḍikādīnāṁ grāsācchādanādīnāṁ ca dānenopakṛtya, tebhyo jñānamavāpya mokṣaṁ yāti । eṣā aṣṭamī siddhiḥ ।
āsāmaṣṭānāṁ siddhīnāṁ śāstrāntare saṁjñāḥ kṛtāḥ – tāram, sutāram, tāratāram, pramodam, pramuditam, pramodamānam, ramyakam, sadāpramuditamiti । āsāṁ viparyayāt buddhervadhā ye viparītāsta aśaktau nikṣiptāḥ । yathā – atāram, asutāram, atāratāram – ityādi draṣṭavyam ।
aśaktibhedā aṣṭāviṁśatiruktāḥ । te – sahabuddhivadhairekādaśendriyavadhā iti । tatra tuṣṭiviparyayā nava, siddhīnāṁ viparyayā aṣṭau – evamete saptadaśa buddhivadhāḥ । etaiḥ sahendriyavadhāḥ, aṣṭāviṁśatiraśaktibhedāḥ paścāt kathitā iti viparyayāśaktituṣṭisiddhīnāmevoddeśo nirdeśaśca kṛta iti।
kiṁ cānyat, siddheḥ pūrvo'ṅkuśastrividhaḥ । siddhaḥ pūrvā yā viparyayāśaktituṣṭayastā eva siddheraṅkuśaḥ, tadbhedādeva trividhaḥ । yathā hastī gṛhītāṅkuśena vaśo bhavati, evaṁ viparyayāśaktituṣṭibhirgṛhīto loko'jñānaṁ prāpnoti । tasmādetāḥ parityajya siddhiḥ sevyā । saṁsiddhestattvajñānamutpadyate । tasmāt mokṣa iti ॥ 51 ॥
atha yaduktaṁ “bhāvairadhivāsitaṁ liṅgam” tatra bhāvā dharmādayo'ṣṭāvuktā buddhipariṇāmāḥ, viparyayāśaktituṣṭisiddhipariṇatāḥ । sa bhāvākhyaḥ pratyayasargaḥ । liṅgaṁ ca tanmātrasargaścaturdaśabhūtaparyanta uktaḥ । tatraikenaiva sargeṇa puruṣārthasiddhau kimubhayavidhasargeṇetyata āha –
na vinā bhāvaurliṅgaṁ na liṅgena bhāvanirvṛttiḥ ।
liṅgākhyo bhāvākhyastasmād dvividhaḥ pravartate sargaḥ ॥ 52 ॥
bhāvaiḥ pratyayasargairvinā liṅgaṁ na, tanmātrasargo na, pūrvapūrvasaṁskārādṛṣṭakāritatvāduttarottaradehalambhasya ।
liṅgena tanmātrasargeṇa ca vinā bhāvanirvṛttirna, sthūlasūkṣmadehasādhyatvāddharmādeḥ । anāditvācca sargasya bījāṅkuravadanyonyāśrayo na doṣāya, tattajjātīyāpekṣitve'pi tattadvyaktīnāṁ parasparānapekṣitatvāt । tasmāt bhāvākhyo liṅgākhyaśca dvividhaḥ pravartate sarga iti ॥ 52 ॥
kiṁ cānyat –
aṣṭavikalpo daivastairyagyonaśca pañcadhā bhavati ।
mānuṣaścaikavidhaḥ samāsato'yaṁ tridhā sargaḥ ॥ 53 ॥
tatra daivamaṣṭaprakāram – bāhyaṁ, prājāpatyaṁ, saumyaṁ, aindraṁ, gāndharvaṁ, yākṣaṁ, rākṣasaṁ, paiśācamiti । paśumṛgapakṣisarīsṛpasthāvarāṇi bhūtāni, evaṁ pañcavidhastairaścaḥ । mānuṣayonirekaiva । iti caturdaśa bhūtāni ॥ 53 ॥
triṣvapi lokeṣu guṇatrayamasti, tatra kasmin kimadhikamityucyate –
ūrdhvaṁ sattvaviśālastamoviśālaśca mūlataḥ sargaḥ ।
madhye rajoviśālo brahmādistambaparyantaḥ ॥ 54 ॥
ūrdhvamiti । aṣṭasu devasthāneṣu sattvaviśālaḥ, sattvavistaraḥ, sattvotkaṭa ūrdhvasattva iti । tatrāpi rajastamasī staḥ ।
tamoviśālo mūlataḥ । paśvādiṣu sthāvarānteṣu sarvaḥ sargastamasādhikyena vyāptaḥ । tatrāpi sattvarajasī staḥ ।
madhye, mānuṣe raja utkaṭam । tatrāpi sattvatamasī vidyete । tasmād duḥkhaprāyā manuṣyāḥ ।
evaṁ brahmādistambaparyantaḥ, brahmādisthāvarānta ityarthaḥ । evam abhautikaḥ sargaḥ, liṅgasargaḥ, bhāvasargaḥ, bhūtasargaḥ, daivamānuṣatairyagyonāḥ, ityeṣa pradhānakṛtaḥ ṣoḍaśavidhaḥ sargaḥ ॥ 54 ॥
tatra jarāmaraṇakṛtaṁ duḥkhaṁ prāpnoti cetanaḥ puruṣaḥ ।
liṅgasyāvinivṛtteḥ, tasmād duḥkhaṁ svabhāvena ॥ 55 ॥
tatreti । teṣu devamānuṣatiryagyoniṣu jarākṛtaṁ maraṇakṛtaṁ caiva duḥkhaṁ cetanaḥ caitanyavān puruṣaḥ prāpnoti, na pradhānaṁ, na buddhiḥ, nāhaṅkāraḥ, na tanmātrāṇīndriyāṇi mahābhūtāni ca ।
kiyantaṁ kālaṁ puruṣo duḥkhaṁ prāpnotīti tadvivinakti – liṅgasyāvinivṛtteḥ । yattanmahadādi liṅgaśarīreṇāviśya tatra vyaktībhavati tadyāvanna nivartate saṁsāraśarīramiti tāvat saṁkṣepeṇa triṣu sthāneṣu puruṣo jarāmaraṇakṛtaṁ duḥkhaṁ prāpnoti liṅgasyāvinivṛtteḥ, liṅgasya vinivṛttiṁ yāvat । liṅganivṛttau mokṣaḥ, mokṣaprāptau nāsti duḥkhamiti । tatpunaḥ kena nivartate, yadā pañcaviṁśatitattvajñānaṁ syāt sattvapuruṣānyatākhyātilakṣaṇaṁ – idaṁ pradhānaṁ, iyaṁ buddhiḥ, ayamahaṅkāraḥ, imāni pañca mahābhūtāni, yebhyo'nyaḥ puruṣo visadṛśa iti । evaṁ jñānālliṅganivṛttistato mokṣa iti ॥ 55 ॥
prakṛteḥ kiṁnimitta ārambhaḥ ityucyate –
ityeṣa prakṛtikṛtau mahadādiviśeṣabhūtaparyantaḥ ।
pratipuruṣavimokṣārthaṁ svārtha iva parārtha ārambhaḥ ॥ 56 ॥
’ityeṣaḥ’ parisamāptau nirdeśe ca । prakṛtikṛtau prakṛtikaraṇe, prakṛtikriyāyāṁ ya ārambho mahadādiviśeṣabhūtaparyantaḥ – prakṛtermahān, mahato'haṅkāraḥ, tasmāttanmātrāṇyekādaśendriyāṇi, tanmātrebhyaḥ pañca mahābhūtāni – ityeṣaḥ ।
pratipuruṣavimokṣārtham । puruṣaṁ puruṣaṁ prati । devamanuṣyatiryagbhāvaḥ gatānāṁ vimokṣārthamārambhaḥ ।
kathaṁ – svārtha iva parārthaḥ ārambhaḥ । yathā kaścit svārthaṁ tyaktvā mitrakāryāṇi karoti evaṁ pradhānam । puruṣo'tra pradhānasya na kiñcit pratyupakāraṁ karoti । svārtha iva na ca svārthaḥ, parārtha eva । arthaḥ śabdādiviṣayopalabdhirguṇapuruṣāntaropalabdhiśca । triṣu lokeṣu śabdādiviṣayaiḥ puruṣā yojayitavyāḥ, ante mokṣeṇa – iti pradhānasya pravṛttiḥ । tathā coktam – ’kumbhavat pradhānaṁ puruṣārthaṁ kṛtvā nivartate’ iti ॥ 56 ॥
atrocyate – acetanaṁ pradhānaṁ cetanaḥ puruṣa iti । “mayā triṣu lokeṣu śabdādibhirviṣayaiḥ puruṣo yojyo'nte mokṣaḥ kartavyaḥ” iti kathaṁ cetanavat pravṛttiḥ । satyam, kintvacetanānāmapi pravṛttirdṛṣṭā nivṛttiśca yasmādityāha –
vatsavivṛddhinimittaṁ kṣīrasya yathā pravṛttirajñasya ।
puruṣavimokṣanimittaṁ tathā pravṛttiḥ pradhānasya ॥ 57 ॥
yathā tṛṇādikaṁ gavā bhakṣitaṁ kṣīrabhāvena pariṇamya vatsavivṛddhiṁ karoti, puṣṭe ca vatse nivartate, evaṁ puruṣavimokṣanimittaṁ pradhānamityajñasya pravṛttiriti ।॥57 ॥
kiṁ ca –
autsukyanivṛttyarthaṁ yathā kriyāsu pravartate lokaḥ ।
puruṣasya vimokṣārthaṁ pravartate tadvadavyaktam ॥ 58 ॥
yathā lokaḥ iṣṭautsukye sati tasya nivṛttyarthaṁ kriyāsu pravartate gamanāgamanakriyāsu, kṛtakāryo nivartate, tathā puruṣasya vimokṣārthaṁ śabdādiviṣayopabhogalakṣaṇaṁ guṇapuruṣāntaropalabdhilakṣaṇaṁ ca dvividhamapi puruṣārthaṁ kṛtvā pradhānaṁ nivartate ॥ 58 ॥
kiṁ cānyat –
raṅgasya darśayitvā nivartate nartakī yathā nṛtyāt ।
puruṣasya tathā''tmānaṁ prakāśya vinivartate prakṛtiḥ ॥ 59 ॥
yathā nartakī śṛṅgārādirasaiḥ itihāsādibhāvaiśca nibaddhagītavāditravṛttāni raṅgasya darśayitvā kṛtakāryā nṛtyānnivartate tathā prakṛtirapi puruṣasyātmānaṁ prakāśya buddhyahaṅkāratanmātrendriyamahābhūtabhedena nivartate ॥ 59 ॥
kathaṁ ko vā asya nivartako hetustadāha –
nānāvidhairupāyairupakāriṇyanupakāriṇaḥ puṁsaḥ ।
guṇavatyaguṇasya satastasyārthamapārthakaṁ carati ॥ 60 ॥
nānāvidhairupāyaiḥ prakṛtiḥ puruṣasyopakāriṇī, anupakāriṇaḥ puṁsaḥ । katham – devamānuṣatiryagbhāvena, sukhaduḥkhamohātmakabhāvena śabdādiviṣayabhāvena ।
evaṁ nānāvidhairupāyairātmānaṁ prakāśya, ahamanyā tvamanya iti, nivartate । ato nityasya tasyārthaṁ apārthaṁ carati kurute । yathā kaścit paropakārī sarvasyopakurute, nātmanaḥ pratyupakāramīhate, evaṁ prakṛtiḥ puruṣārthaṁ carati karotyapārthakam ॥ 60 ॥
paścāduktam – ātmānaṁ prakāśya nivartate । nivṛttā ca kiṁ karotītyāha –
prakṛteḥ sukumārataraṁ na kiñcidastīti me matirbhavati ।
yā dṛṣṭāsmīti punarna darśanamupaiti puruṣasya ॥ 61 ॥
loke prakṛteḥ sukumārataraṁ na kiñcidastītyevaṁ me matirbhavati yena parārtha evaṁ matirutpannā । kasmāt – ahamanena puruṣeṇa dṛṣṭāsmītyasya puṁsaḥ punardarśanaṁ nopaiti, puruṣasyādarśanamupayātītyarthaḥ । tatra sukumārataraṁ varṇayati । kecit īśvaraṁ kāraṇaṁ bruvate –
ajño janturanīśo'yamātmanaḥ sukhaduḥkhayoḥ ।
īśvaraprerito gacchetsvargaṁ narakameva vā ॥
mahābhārata – 3,30,88.
apare svabhāvakāraṇakā bruvate –
“kena śuklīkṛtā haṁsā mayūrāḥ kena citritāḥ ।“
svabhāvenaiva iti । atra sāṁkhyācāryā āhuḥ, nirguṇatvādīśvarasya kathaṁ suguṇāḥ prajāḥ jāyeran । kathaṁ vā puruṣānnirguṇādeva । tasmāt prakṛteryujyate । yathā śuklebhyastantubhyaḥ śukla eva paṭo bhavati, kṛṣṇebhyaḥ eveti । evaṁ triguṇāt pradhānāt trayo lokāstriguṇāḥ samutpannā iti gamyate । nirguṇa īśvaraḥ, suguṇānāṁ lokānāṁ tasmādutpattirayukteti । anena puruṣo vyākhyātaḥ । tathā keṣāñcit kālaḥ kāraṇamiti, uktaṁ ca –
’kālaḥ pacati bhūtāni kālaḥ saṁharate jagat ।
kālaḥ supteṣu jāgarti kālo hi duratikramaḥ ॥’
vyaktāvyaktapuruṣāḥ trayaḥ padārthāḥ, tena kālo'ntarbhūto'sti । sa hi vyaktaḥ ।
sarvakartṛtvāt kālasyāpi pradhānameva kāraṇam । svabhāvo'pyatraiva līnaḥ । tasmāt kālo na kāraṇaṁ, nāpi svabhāva iti । tasmāt prakṛtireva kāraṇam, na prakṛteḥ kāraṇāntaramastīti ।
na punardarśanamupayāti puruṣasya । ataḥ prakṛteḥ sukumārataraṁ subhogyataraṁ na kiñcidīśvarādikāramastīti me matirbhavati ॥61 ॥
tathā ca loke rūḍhaṁ puruṣo muktaḥ puruṣaḥ saṁsartīti codite āha –
tasmānna badhyate nāpi mucyate nāpi saṁsarati kaścit ।
saṁsarati badhyate mucyate ca nānāśrayā prakṛtiḥ ॥ 62 ॥
tasmāt kāraṇāt puruṣo na badhyate nāpi mucyate nāpi saṁsarati yasmāt kāraṇāt prakṛtireva nānāśrayā daivamāṇuṣatiryagyonyāśrayā buddhyahaṅkāratanmātrendriyabhūtasvarūpeṇa badhyate mucyate saṁsarati ceti ।
atha mukta eva svabhāvāt sa sarvagataśca kathaṁ saṁsarati – aprāptaprāpaṇārthaṁ saṁsaraṇamiti । tena puruṣo badhyate puruṣo mucyate puruṣaḥ saṁsaratīti vyapadiśyati । tena saṁsāritvaṁ na vidyate । sattvapuruṣāntarajñānāt tattvaṁ puruṣasyābhivyajyate, tadabhivyaktau kevalaḥ śuddho muktaḥ svarūpapratiṣṭhaḥ puruṣa iti ।
atra yadi puruṣasya bandho nāsti tato mokṣo'pi nāsti । atrocyate – prakṛtirevātmānaṁ badhnāti mocayati ca । yatra sūkṣmaśariraṁ tanmātrakaṁ trividhakaraṇopetaṁ tat trividhena bandhena badhyate । uktaṁ ca –
prākṛtena ca bandhena tathā vaikārikeṇa ca ।
dākṣiṇena tṛtīyena baddho nānyena mucyate ॥
tat sūkṣmaṁ śarīraṁ dharmādharmasaṁyuktam ॥ 62 ॥
prakṛtiśca badhyate prakṛtiśca mucyate saṁsaratīti kathaṁ tat – ucyate –
rūpaiḥ saptabhireva tu badhnātyātmānamātmanā prakṛtiḥ ।
saiva ca puruṣārthaṁ prati vimocayatyekarūpeṇa ॥ 63 ॥
rūpaiḥ saptabhireva । etāni sapta procyante – dharmaḥ, jñānaṁ, vairāgyam, aiśvaryam, adharmaḥ, ajñānaṁ, avairāgyaṁ, anaiśvaryam – etāni prakṛteḥ sapta rūpāṇi । tairātmānaṁ svaṁ badhnāti prakṛtiḥ ātmanā svenaiva । saiva prakṛtiḥ puruṣasyārthaḥ puruṣārthaḥ kartavyaḥ iti vimocayatyātmānamekarūpeṇa jñānena ॥ 63 ॥
kathaṁ tajjñānamutpadyate –
evaṁ tattvābhyāsānnāsmi na me nāhamityapariśeṣam ।
aviparyayādviśuddhaṁ kevalamutpadyate jñānam ॥ 64 ॥
evamuktakrameṇa pañcaviṁśatitattvālocanābhyāsāt, iyaṁ prakṛtiḥ, ayaṁ puruṣaḥ, etāni pañcatanmātrendriyamahābhūtānīti puruṣasya jñānamutpadyate – nāsmi nāhameva bhavāmi, na me mama śarīraṁ tat, yato'hamanyaḥ śarīramanyat । nāhamityapariśeṣaḥ, ahaṅkārarahitamapariśeṣam ।
aviparyayādviśuddham । viparyayaḥ saṁśayaḥ, aviparyayādasaṁśayāt, viśuddhaṁ kevalaṁ, tadeva nānyadastīti mokṣakāraṇamutpadyate'bhivyajyate jñānaṁ pañcaviṁśatitattvajñānaṁ puruṣasyeti ॥ 64 ॥
jñāne puruṣaḥ kiṁ karoti –
tena nivṛttaprasavāmarthavaśāt saptarūpavinivṛttām ।
prakṛtiṁ paśyati puruṣaḥ prekṣakavadavasthitaḥ svasthaḥ ॥ 65 ॥
tena viśudhena kevalajñānena puruṣaḥ prakṛtiṁ paśyati । prekṣakavat prekṣakeṇa tulyam । avasthitaḥ svasthaḥ । yathā raṅgaprekṣako'vasthito nartakīṁ paśyati । svasthaḥ, svasmiṁstiṣṭhati svastha, svasthānasthitaḥ।
kathambhūtāṁ prakṛtiṁ – nivṛttaprasavām । nivṛttabuddhyahaṅkārakāryām । arthavaśāt saptarūpavinivṛttām । nivartitobhayapuruṣaprayojanavaśāt, yaiḥ saptabhī rūpairdharmādibhirātmānaṁ badhnāti tebhyaḥ saptabhyo rūpebhyo vinivṛttāṁ prakṛtiṁ paśyati ॥ 65 ॥
raṅgastha ityupekṣaka eko dṛṣṭāhamityuparamatyekā ।
sati saṁyoge'pi tayoḥ prayojanaṁ nāsti sargasya ॥ 66 ॥
raṅgastha iti । yathā raṅgastha ityevamupekṣakaḥ ekaḥ kevalaḥ śuddhaḥ puruṣaḥ । tenāhaṁ dṛṣṭeti kṛtvā uparatā nivṛttā, ekā ekaiva prakṛtiḥ trailokyasyāpi pradhānakāraṇabhūtā । na dvitīyā prakṛtirasti, mūrtibhede jātibhedāt ।
evaṁ prakṛtipuruṣayornivṛttāvapi vyāpakatvāt saṁyogo'sti, na tu saṁyogakṛtaḥ sargaḥ । sati saṁyoge'pi tayoḥ । prakṛtipuruṣayoḥ sarvagatattvāt satyapi saṁyoge prayojanaṁ nasti sargasya, sṛṣṭeścaritārthatvāt । prakṛterdvividhaṁ prayojanam – śabdaviṣayopalabdhirguṇapuruṣāntaropalabdhiśca । ubhayatrāpi caritārthatvāt sargasya nāsti prayojanaṁ, yaḥ punaḥ sarga iti । yathā dānagrahaṇanimitta-uttamarṇādhamarṇayordravyaviśuddhau satyapi saṁyoge na kaścidarthasambandho bhavati, evaṁ prakṛtipuruṣayorapi nāsti prayojanamiti ॥ 66 ॥
yadi puruṣasyotpanne jñāne mokṣo bhavati tato mama kasmānna bhavati – ityata ucyate –
samyagjñānādhigamāddharmādīnāmakāraṇaprāptau ।
tiṣṭhati saṁskāravaśāccakrabhramaṇavaddhṛtaśarīraḥ ॥ 67 ॥
yadyapi pañcaviṁśatitattvajñānaṁ samyak jñānaṁ bhavati, tathāpi saṁskāravaśāt dhṛtaśarīro yogī tiṣṭhati katham –cakrabhramavat, cakrabhrameṇa tulyam । yathā kulālaścakraṁ bhramayitvā ghaṭaṁ karoti mṛtpiṇḍaṁ cakramāropya, punaḥ kṛtvā ghaṭaṁ paryāmuñcati, cakraṁ bhramatyeva saṁskāravaśāt ।
evaṁ samyagjñānādhigamāt, utpannasamyagjñānasya dharmādīnāmakāraṇaprāptau । etāni saptarūpāṇi bandhanabhūtāni samyagjñānena dagdhāni, yathā nāgninā dagdhāni bījāni prarohaṇasamarthāni, evametāni dharmādīni bandhanāni na samarthāni । dharmādīnāmakāraṇaprāptau saṁskāravaśāt dhṛtaśarīrastiṣṭhati । jñānādvarttamānadharmādharmakṣayaḥ kasmānn bhavati vartamānatvādeva, kṣaṇāntare kṣayamapyeti । jñānaṁ tvanāgakarma dahati, vartamānaśarīreṇa ca yatkaroti tadapīti, vihitānuṣṭhānakaraṇāditi । saṁskārakṣayāccharīrapāte mokṣaḥ ॥ 67 ॥
sa kiṁviśiṣṭo bhavatītyucyate –
prāpte śarīrabhede caritārthatvāt pradhānavinivṛttau ।
aikāntikamātyantikamubhayaṁ kaivalyamāpnoti ॥ 68 ॥
dharmādharmajanitasaṁskārakṣayāt prāpe śarirabhede caritārthatvāt pradhānasya nivṛttau, aikāntikamavaśyaṁ, ātyantikamanantarhitaṁ kaivalyaṁ, kevalabhāvānmokṣaḥ, ubhayamaikāntikamityevaṁviśiṣṭaṁ kaivalyamāpnoti ॥ 68 ॥
puruṣārthajñānamidaṁ guhyaṁ paramarṣiṇā samākhyātam ।
sthityutpattipralayāścintyante yatra bhūtānām ॥ 69 ॥
puruṣārtho mokṣaḥ, tarthamidaṁ guhyaṁ rahasyaṁ paramarṣiṇā śrīkapilarṣiṇā samākhyātaṁ, samyaguktam । yatna jñāne bhūtānām vaikārikāṇāṁ sthityutpattipralayā avasthānāvirbhāvatirobhāvāścintyante vicāryante । yeṣāṁ vicārāt samyak pañcaviṁśatitattvavivecanātmikā sampadyate saṁvittiriti ॥ 69 ॥
sāṁkhyaṁ kapilamuninā proktaṁ saṁsāravimuktikāraṇaṁ hi ।
yatraitāḥ saptatirāryā bhāṣyaṁ cātra gauḍapādakṛtam ॥
etatpavitramagnyaṁ munirāsuraye'nukampayā pradadau ।
āsurirapi pañcaśikhāya tena ca bahudhā kṛtaṁ tantram ॥ a ॥
śiṣyaparamparayā''gatamīśvarakṛṣṇena caitadāryābhiḥ ।
saṁkṣiptamāryamatinā samyagvijñāya siddhāntam ॥ ā॥
saptatyāṁ kila ye'rthāste'rthāḥ kṛtsnasya ṣaṣṭitantrasya ।
ākhyāyikāvirahitāḥ paravādavivarjitāścāpi ॥ i ॥
a । anvayaḥ । - muniḥ etat agnyaṁ pavitram anukampayā āsuraye pradadau । āsurirapi pañcaśikhāya (pradadau) tena ca bahudhā tantraṁ kṛtam ।
ā । anvayaḥ । - śiṣyaparamparayā āgatam etat āryamatinā īśvarakṛṣṇena siddhāntaṁ samyag vijñāya āryābhiḥ saṁkṣiptam ।
i । anvayaḥ । -saptatyāṁ ye arthāḥ kila te kṛtsnasya ṣaṣṭitantrasya arthāḥ ākhyāyikāvirahitāḥ paravādavivarjitāścāpi ।
samāptā imāḥ sagauḍapādabhāṣyāḥ sāṁkhyakārikāḥ ॥
