atha yogānuśāsanam ॥ 1 ॥
athaśabdaḥ svarūpeṇa maṅgalaṁ dadhyādivat, adhikāradyotakaśca । yogo'nuśiṣyate vivicya bodhyate'neneti yogānuśāsanaṁ śāstramadhikṛtaṁ boddhavyamityarthaḥ । hiraṇyagarbhādyupadiṣṭasyaiva yogasya vivicya bodhanamatreti bodhyam ॥ 1 ॥
yogalakṣaṇamāha –
yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
cittasyāntaḥkaraṇasya vakṣyamāṇā yā vṛttyayastāsāṁ nirodho nivartanaṁ yoga ityarthaḥ । vṛttinivartanaṁ ca jīvanayoniyatnavadatīndriyo yatnaviśeṣaścittanigraharūpo vṛttivilayahetuḥ, cittasya vṛttisaṁskāraśeṣāvasthā vā । sā cāvasthā tāratamyaviśiṣṭasaṁskārapariṇāmadhārā natu vṛttyabhāva eva । abhāvasyādhikaraṇāvasthāviśeṣarūpatvādvakṣyamāṇasaṁskārajanakatvānupapatteḥ । abhāvasya saṁskārajanakatve'tiprasaṅgāt । saṁskāravṛddhiṁ vinānudinaṁ yogasya kālavṛddhau niyāmakāntarāsaṁbhavāt । atra sarvavṛttinirodhāvacanātsaṁprajñātayogo'pi saṁgṛhītaḥ । dvividho yogaḥ saṁprajñāto'saṁprajñātaśca । tatra yo dhyeyātiriktavṛttinirodhaḥ sa ca viṣayāntarasañcārākhyapratibandhakanivṛttirūpatayā viṣayāntaravāsanābhibhavadvārā dharmaviśeṣadvārā ca dhyeyasākṣātkārahetuḥ । cittaṁ hi svata eva sarvārthagrahaṇakṣamaṁ vibhu ca । tamasāvaraṇādeva tu na sarvadā sarvaṁ gṛhṇāti । atastamovardhakānāṁ viṣayāntaravāsanāpāpādīnāṁ kṣaye [ yogato vṛttiḥ ] svayameva dhyeyaṁ vastu sākṣātkriyate citteneti siddhāntaḥ । antyaḥ sarvavṛttinirodhaḥ ।atredaṁ bodhyam । kṣiptaṁ mūḍhaṁ vikṣiptamekāgraṁ niruddhamiti pañca cittasyāvasthāviśeṣāḥ । tatra kṣiptaṁ rajasa udrekādatyantamasthiraṁ śabdānurāgi ca । yathā daityadānavadīnām । mūḍhaṁ tamaḥsamudrekātkṛtyākṛtyavicāraśūnyaṁ krodhādiyutaṁ nidrādimadadharmādyanurāgi ca । yathā rakṣaḥpiśācādīnām ।vikṣiptaṁ sattvodrekādduḥkhasādhanaparihāreṇa sukhasādhaneṣveva pravṛttam । yathā devānām । cittaṁ hi rajasā pravṛttiśīlaṁ , tamasā parāpakāranirataṁ , sattvena sukhamayaṁ bhavati । āsu tisṛṣu vidyamāno'pi yatkiñciccittavṛttinirodho na yogapakṣe tatpratidvandvivikṣepopasarjanatvāt । ekāgratvaṁ dhyeyātiriktavṛttinirodhaḥ । tatra hi sati kūṭasthanityacitsvarūpasya hṛdayadeśe'ntaḥkaraṇāvacchedenābhivyaktasya sākṣātkāro bhavati । sākṣātkāre cāvidyocchedāttanmūlakleśakṣayo bhavati । asyāmavasthāyāṁ saṁprajñātayogaḥ । atra rajastamomayavṛtteḥ sarvathā nirodhaḥ । sātvikī tvātmaviṣayāstyeva । asya ca dhyeyavastupuruṣatattvasākṣātkāradvārā kleśādyucchedakatvena mokṣahetutā । niruddhaṁ niruddhasakalavṛttisaṁskāramātraśeṣam । atra sarvavṛttinirodhe'saṁprajñātaḥ । asya cākhilavṛttisaṁskāradāhadvārā prārabdhasyāpyatikrameṇa mokṣahetuteti vakṣyāmaḥ । taduktam –
’ekāgratā cedgrahyādau nirodhaśceccidātmani ।
kṣiptāditribhuvastyāgātkasya mokṣo'tra dūrataḥ’ iti ॥
yadāhi tamo rajoguṇamapi vijitya triguṇātmake'pi citte pradhānaṁ sattvamāvṛṇoti tadā rajastamaḥsamutsāraṇe'śaktatvāttamasā sthagitaṁ cittamadharmāvairāgyādyupagacchati । evaṁ sarvatrecchāpratighātarūpamanaiśvaryaṁ copagacchati । viparyayajñānātmakamajñānaṁ nidrārūpaṁ copagacchati । idaṁ mūḍham । yadā hi svanyūnābhyāṁ parasparasamābhyāṁ rajastamobhyāṁ saṁsṛṣṭaṁ sattvaṁ tadā'ṇimādyaiśvaryaśabdādiviṣayapriyaṁ bhavati । idaṁ kṣiptamādyam । yadā hi kṣīṇatamaskarajasānuviddhasattvakaṁ tadā dharmajñānavairāgyaiśvaryopagaṁ bhavati । idaṁ vikṣiptam । yadā tu leśato'pi rajastamomalarahitasattvakaṁ cittaṁ tayorapagame saṁsārahetutvādidoṣadarśanānniruddhabāhyavṛttikaṁ svarūpapratiṣṭhaṁ svābhāvikaprasādādiyutaṁ tadā sattvapuruṣānyatākhyātirūpavivekopagaṁ tanmātravṛttikaṁ bhavati । etadevaikāgramityucyate । asyaiva parā kāṣṭhā dharmameghasamādhiḥ, yatra cittasya dhyānamātrapriyatā bhavati । yadā tu – cicchaktyapekṣayā vivekakhyātau sattvaguṇātmakatvenādhamatvaṁ gṛhṇāti cicchaktiḥ puruṣākhyā'pariṇāmitvāt buddhivatkriyārāhityena viṣayadeśe gamanarūpapratisaṁkramarahitā viṣayasaṅgarahitā ca buddhyā svavṛttidvārā darśitaviṣayā sukhaduḥkhamohātmakatvarūpāśuddhirahitā anantā ca , vivekakhyātistu sattvaguṇakāryāpi pariṇāminī dīpaśikhāvadviṣayeṣu saṁcaraṇātpratisaṁkramavatī jaḍā sukhaduḥkhādyaśuddhimatī paricchinnatvādantavatī, mukhamapi vivekino duḥkhavaddheyameveti tasyāmapi virajyate cittaṁ – tadā sarvavṛttinirodha iti bodhyam । idaṁ niruddham ॥ 2 ॥
nanvevaṁ vyutthānakālīne yatkiṁcidvṛttinirodhe'tivyāptiḥ । kiṁca vṛttiviṣayakabodhasvarūpa eva puruṣa iti vṛttivilaye tadanubhavarūpaḥ puruṣo'pi naśyet, kāṣṭhāpāye'gnivadityata āha –
tadā draṣṭuḥ svarūpe'vasthānam ॥ 3 ॥
tadetyanena yogyatābalāt sarvavṛttinirodharūpo'saṁprajñātaḥ parāmṛśyate । saṁprajñāte tadabhāvasyottarasūtrārūḍhatvāt । tadā sarvavṛttinirodhe draṣṭuḥ jñānasvarūpasya svarūpe nirviṣayacinmātrarūpatve avasthānaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ । japāpāye sphaṭikasyeva vṛttyapāye puruṣasya vṛttipratibimbaśūnyasya svarūpe'vasthānamiti bhāvaḥ । evañca tadā vṛttyabhāvāttadanugataduḥkhādibhoganivṛttiḥ puruṣārthaḥ । puruṣasyaitadeva svarūpaṁ na buddhivṛttiviṣayabodhaḥ । tasyaupādhikatvāt । tatropādhinivṛttāvapyupahitānivṛttiriti na tannāśaprasaṅgaḥ । evañca draṣṭurātyantikasvarūpāvasthitihetuścittavṛttinirodho yogalakṣaṇam । kleśakarmādiparipanthicittavṛttinirodho vā । tacca na vyutthānakālikanirodha iti na tatrātivyāptiḥ । saṁprajñātasya cāsaṁprajñātadvārā svarūpāvasthitihetutvam । pralayakālīnasya samagrasuṣuptikālīnasya ca nirodhasya vyāvṛttaye ātyantiketi । svarūpāvasthānaṁ caupādhikarūpanivṛttipūrvakaḥ svarūpāpracyavaḥ । tannivṛttiścopādhinivṛttyeti dik ॥ 3 ॥
idānīmasaṁprajñātavyatirikte vyutthānakāle cicchaktestādṛśasvarūpāyā api aupādhikamanarthayogaṁ darśayati yoge lokānāṁ pravṛttaye –
vṛttisārupyamitaratra ॥ 4 ॥
itaratra yogābhāvakāle samānamekaṁ rūpaṁ yasya sa sarūpastasya bhāvaḥ sārūpyaṁ vṛttibhiḥ sārūpyamityarthaḥ । vyutthāne hi bimbapratibimbarūpayorvṛddhivṛttipuruṣavṛttyoḥ sārūpyam । vṛttayo'pi dīpaśikhā iva dravyarūpā bhaṅgurāścittasya pariṇāmāḥ । nacāpariṇāminaḥ puruṣasya vṛttiḥ, darśitaviṣayatvāt । buddhyā niveditaviṣayatvaṁ hi tattvaṁ, nivedanaṁ ca svavṛttyārūḍhaviṣayasya pratibimbasvarūpeṇa citāvādhānam । evañca te pratibimbā eva tasya vṛttayaḥ । taduktaṁ bhāṣye – ’vyutthāne yāścittavṛttayaḥ tadaviśiṣṭavṛttiḥ puruṣaḥ’ iti । pratibimbo'pi na sphaṭikavat kiṁtvanimāna eva । etadyadvṛttisārūpyameva vṛttyākāratākhyaṁ tadevāsyārthoparaktavṛttibhānaṁ tasya cākāro'yaṁ ghaṭa ityādirūpa eva natu vṛttibodhasya pṛthagākāro'sti । ghaṭamahaṁ jānāmītyādi tu buddherevākārāntaramiti kaścit । jñānasya svaprakāśatvādevamabhilāpa ityanye । vṛttyabhinnaikarūpatā cittena saha draṣṭuriti bhāvaḥ । buddhipuruṣayoḥ saṁnidhānādabhedagraheṇa tābhireva vṛttibhiḥ puruṣo'pi vṛttimānivākartāpi kartrevābhoktāpi bhokteva duḥkhādimāniva vivekakhyātirahito'pi tatsahita eva vivekakhyātyā prakāśate । bhoktṛtvabhogyatālakṣaṇasaṁbandhaścānādyavidyānimittakaḥ pratiniyatayoreva buddhipuruṣayoḥ svasvāmibhāvo'nādireva । yathā hyayaskāntaḥ svasminnevāyaḥsaṁnidhīkaraṇāt śalyaniṣkarṣakatayopakārī svāminaḥ khaṁ bhavati bhogasādhanatvādevaṁ cittamayaḥsadṛśaviṣayajātasya svasminsaṁnidhīkaraṇāt dṛśyatvamupakāraṁ janayan puruṣasya svaṁ, bhogasādhanatvāt । yadyapi bhogyabhoktṛbhāvo na pralaye tathāpi svabhuktavṛttivāsanāvattvādikameva buddhau puruṣasya svattvaṁ, cittasya kāryatve'pi bījāvasthayā nityatvādanāditvākṣatiḥ । tatsārūpyameva citerduḥkhabhogaḥ । pratibimbasvarūpaduḥkhahānameva mokṣaḥ । ye tvātmani manaḥsayogātsukhādyutpattiriti vadanti teṣāṁ kārṇadvayakalpanāgauravam । ātmani viṣayaniṣṭhasukhādyākāravṛttisvīkāre pariṇāmitvāpattiśca । buddhāvarthaviṣayakatvamanarthākārataiva buddhipariṇāmaviśeṣarūpā natu tatpratibimbaḥ, svapnādau viṣayābhāvena tatpratibimbāsaṁbhavāt । puruṣe tu sā pariṇāmarūpā na saṁbhavatīti pratibimbarūpaiva । vṛttīnāmeva ca pratibimbārpaṇasāmarthyamiti na saṁskāraśeṣāyā buddherasaṁprajñāte pratibimbanam, uktasvasvāmibhāvasyaiva pratibimbe niyāmakatvānna parabuddhivṛtteḥ parasya bhānam । ’yathā saṁllakṣyate raktaḥ kevalasphaṭiko janaiḥ । rañjakādyupadhānena tadvatparamapuruṣaḥ’ iti smṛteśca pratibimbasvīkāra iti dik । evaṁ buddhāvapi citpratibimba āvaśyakaḥ । anyathā kartṛkarmavirodhena caitanyabhānānupapattiriti dhyeyam । ubhayatrobhayākārabuddhipariṇāma eva pratibimba iti dik ॥ 4 ॥
vṛttīnāmiyattāmāha –
vṛttayaḥ pañcatayyaḥ kliṣṭākliṣṭāḥ ॥ 5 ॥
vṛttisamudāyarūpo'vayavī pañcaprakārāvayavaka ityarthaḥ । te ca vṛttisamudāyāḥ caitramaitrādicittamedādbahava iti bahucanam । dharmādharmavṛddhirūpakleśaphalikāḥ kliṣṭāḥ । sattvapuruṣānyatārūpavivekajñānasādhanaviṣayāḥ khyātisaṁjñā akliṣṭāḥ । tatra kliṣṭānāmakliṣṭābhirnirodho'kliṣṭānāṁ ca paravairāgyeṇeti bodhyam । tatra kliṣṭāntarvartinyo'pyakliṣṭāḥ kliṣṭābhiranabhibhūtāḥ svasaṁskāraparipākakrameṇa kliṣṭā abhibhavantīti akliṣṭā eva bhavantīti miśrāṇāṁ nādhikyam । vṛttibhiḥ saṁskārāḥ saṁskāraiśca vṛttaya ityevaṁ vṛttisaṁskāracakramāvartate ānirodhayogāt । nirodhāvasthāṁ ca cittaṁ dagdhākhilasaṁskāraṁ pralayaṁ yāti । kṛtyādilakṣaṇavṛttīnāṁ caitannirodhenaiva nirodha ityāśayena pañcetyuktam । āsāṁ vṛttitvaṁ caitaireva vyāpāraiścittasya jīvanāt iti dik ॥ 5 ॥
tānpañcaprakārāndarśayati –
pramāṇaviparyayavikalpanidrāsmṛtaya ॥ 6 ॥
spaṣṭam ॥ 6 ॥
tāsāṁ krameṇa lakṣaṇānyāha –
pratyakṣānumānāgamāḥ pramāṇāni ॥ 7 ॥
anadhigatatattvabodhaḥ pramā, tatkaraṇaṁ pramāṇamiti pramāṇasāmānyalakṣaṇam । avisaṁvādi jñānaṁ vā pramā । tatrendriyadvārā svato vā manaḥsanikarṣāt jāyate yo viśeṣataḥ padārthaniścayaḥ tatkaraṇaṁ vṛttiḥ pratyakṣaṁ pramāṇam । tatrendriyadvārā nirgatasya cittasyendriyasāhityenaivārthākāraḥ pariṇāmaścittasya śaṅkhapaityādyākāratāyāṁ nayanādigatapittādyanvayadarśanāt । ata eva rūpādivṛttiṣu cakṣurādīnāṁ karaṇatvamucyate । vṛttiśca – ’anantā raśmayastasya prabhāvatyaḥ sthitā hṛdi’ iti smṛteḥ prabhāvad dravyameva । niścayatvaṁ ca saṁśayabhinnajñānatvaṁ tena neccākṛtyādiṣvativyāptiḥ । svato vetyanena vivekakhyātirapi lakṣitā । ’indriyapraṇālikayā cittavṛttyākārasya bāhyavastvākāroparāgāt bāhyārthagocaraṁ sāmānyadharmaviśeṣadharmatādātmyāpannasyāpyarthasya sāmānyadharmopasarjanakaviśeṣarūpeṇa bhānam’ iti bhāṣyakṛtaḥ । tatrāpīndriyapraṇālikayetyupalakṣaṇam । anenānumityādiṣu cittavṛttyākāreṇaiva sākāratā vṛtteḥ sāmānyaviṣayakatvaṁ ca darśitam । tadavacchinne eva vyāptigrahāt ॥ svapnadhyānādau cittavṛttighaṭākārasyaivānubhūyamānatvāt tatrāpi cittavṛtterghaṭādyākāratayānubhavāt citte vāsanārūpeṇa sarvadravyasattāsti । te hi vṛttisāmagryā sthūlākārāstasyāṁ bhāsanta iti dik । pramāṇaphalamaviśiṣṭaḥ pauruṣeyaścittavṛttibodha iti bhāṣyam । vṛttirūpakaraṇasya cittavṛttisamānākāraḥ puruṣarūpo bodhaḥ । tatra hetugarbhaviśeṣaṇamaviśiṣṭa iti । cittavṛttisārūpyāpanna ityarthaḥ ॥ yadyapi sa nityastathāpi tattadākāravaiśiṣṭyena phalatvaṁ puruṣāśritatvaṁ ceti bodhyam । rājārthe bhṛtyavyāpāravat puruṣārthameva karaṇavyāpārāttadbodhasyaiva phalatvaṁ yuktam । vṛttiśca pradīpaśikhāvadbuddheragrabhāgaḥ । yena cittasyaikāgratāvyavahāraḥ । ekamagre viṣayatayā yasya tadbhāvo hyekāgratā ॥ ayaṁ ghaṭa ityākāra eva vṛtterbodhaḥ । ghaṭamahaṁ jānāmīti buddhervṛttyantaraṁ, caitanyasya svaprakāśatayā'syaivābhilāpo vā । kecidbuddhau pratibimba eva puruṣasya vṛttistadeva vṛttyākāratāmāpannaṁ bodhaphalamiti । tanna । pratibimbasya buddhipariṇāmarūpatayā tucchatvenārthabhānarūpatvānupapatteḥ । kiñca parasparapratibimbaḥ smṛtisiddhaḥ । kiñca jānāmītyevaṁ buddhivṛttau bhāsamānaṁ pratibimbacaitanyaṁ na svajñeyaṁ sambhavati kartṛkarmavirodhāt । atastasyā bimbacaitanye bhānamāvaśyakamiti dik ॥
liṅgajanyā vṛttiḥ sāmānyaviṣayā'numānam । āptena tattvadarśanakāruṇyakaraṇapāṭavarūpāptimatā svayaṁ dṛṣṭasya śrutasyānumitasya vārthasya svacittavṛttijñānasadṛśajñānaviṣayatayā paracitte samarpayitumupadiśyate yaḥ śabdastajjanyā tadarthaviṣayā vṛttirāgamaḥ ॥ yatra vaktā'dṛṣṭaśrutānumitārthatvenāśraddheyaḥ sa āgamo'pramāṇam । anyastu pramāṇam । manvādyuktārthānāmapi tanmūlavedavaktā īśvaro dṛṣṭānumitārthaḥ eveti te'pi pramāṇameva । vṛttayastu sākṣibhāsyāḥ karaṇānapekṣaṇāt। sākṣāddarśanarūpameva puruṣasya sākṣitvam । taduktam – “pramātā cetanaḥ śuddhaḥ pramāṇaṁ vṛttireva ca । pramā'rthākāravṛttīnāṁ cetane pratibimbanam ॥ pratibimbitavṛttīnāṁ viṣayo meya ucyate ॥ vṛttayaḥ sākṣibhāsyāḥ syuḥ karaṇasyānapekṣaṇāt ॥ sākṣāddarśanarūpaṁ ca sākṣitvaṁ sāṁkhyasūcitam’ iti ॥ sukhādimatyo hi vṛttayaḥ rūpādimatyo bhāryā iva puruṣasya bhogyā ityucyante ॥ 7 ॥
viparyayaṁ lakṣayati –
viparyayo mithyājñānamatadrūpapratiṣṭham ॥ 8 ॥
viparyaya iti lakṣyam ।mithyājñānamiti lakṣaṇam । mithyetyasya vivaraṇamatadrūpapratiṣṭhamiti, bhāsamānarūpābhāvavadviśeṣyakamityarthaḥ । yadvā'tadrūpapratiṣṭhamityasya buddhiviṣayākārasanākāraviṣayapratiṣṭhaṁ netyarthaḥ । bhramasthale buddhivṛttyākārasyaiva viṣaye āropa iti siddhāntāt । ataḥ saṁśayo'pi mithyājñānameva । mithyātvena tajjñāne bādhyatvamapyabhipretam । ataeva vakṣyamāṇavikalpasya na viparyayatvam । nedaṁ rajatamiti jñānottaramidaṁ rajatamiti jñānavyavahārayorabhāvaḥ, śaśaśṛṅgamiti jñānavyavahārau bādhajñānakālottaramapīti viśeṣāt । vastutattvaviṣayajñānena pramāṇenāpramāṇabādhanaṁ dṛṣṭam, ekacandrajñāneneva dvicandrajñānasya । mithyājñāne ca doṣaḥ kāraṇam । sā cāvidyeti vakṣyate । bhramasthale buddhirūpacittavṛttyākārasyaiva viṣaye āropaḥ । ’vipra pṛthivyādi cittasthaṁ na bahiṣṭhaṁ kadācana । svapnabhramamadādyeṣu sarvairevānubhūyate’ iti smṛteḥ ॥ atadrūpapratiṣṭhamitivacanādanyathākhyātiratra darśana iti । vaiśeṣikamatādayaṁ viśeṣaḥ – teṣāṁ bāhyarajatāropaḥ, asmākaṁ tvāntarasyeti । ata eva prāgdṛṣṭamidānīṁ nāstīti svarūpato bādhānubhavaḥ ॥ kecittu – vastutastu atadrūpapratiṣṭhatvaṁ tadrūpaprakārakatvābhāva iti asaṁsargāviśiṣṭaṁ jñānaṁ bhrama iti mate'pi sūtraṁ suyojamiti । viparyaya evāvidyāsmitārāgdveṣābhiniveśarūpapañcaparvā'vidyā । rāgādīnāmavidyānugatatvādavidyāparyāyatvaṁ viparyayatvaṁ ca । eṣāmeva tamomohamahāmohatāmisrāndhatāmisreti saṁjñā iti dik ॥ 8 ॥
vikalpaṁ lakṣayati –
śabdajñānānupātī vastuśūnyo vikalpaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
śabdaviṣayakajñānamanupatati tajjanyo vṛttiviśeṣa ityarthaḥ । anena viśeṣadarśanakāle'pi vyavahārānivṛtterviparyayādbheda uktaḥ । vastuśūnyo'rthaśūnyaḥ । tena pramāṇavṛtterbheda uktaḥ । yathā caitanyapuruṣayorabhedena bhedasya vastutastatrābhāvāccaitanyaṁ puruṣasya svarūpamiti śabdajñānottaraṁ caitrasya gaurityādāviva bhedamūlasaṁsargaviṣayā vṛttiḥ । yadvā vivekināmapi śabdaprayogajñānayorjanakastadāropo vikalpaḥ । [bheda eva ca vyapadeśaśabdenocyate viśiṣṭo'padeśo vyavahāro yasmāditi vyutpatteḥ ।] rāhoḥ śiro vandhyāsuta ityādi codāharaṇam । ………. (?) yathā bāṇastiṣṭhatīti । atra hi gatinivṛttiḥ pratīyate । tatrābhāvo nāma (na) kaścidarthastasmādgatinivṛttiḥ kalpitā । tasyā api bhāvarūpatvaṁ tatrāpi pūrvāparībhāva iti kalpanāparamparā । pūrvāparībhūtakarmakṣaṇapracayasyaivaikaphalāvacchinnasya dhātvarthatvāditi dik । anyairetānyāhāryajñānānītyucyante ॥ 9 ॥
nidrāṁ lakṣayati –
abhāvaprayayālambanā vṛttirnidrā ॥ 10 ॥
prakṛtatvāduktānāṁ vṛttīnāmabhāvasya pratyayaḥ kāraṇaṁ buddhyāvarakaṁ tamaḥ tadālambanā svapimītyākārā āvarakatamoviṣayā ca tadācchāditacittagatasukhādiviṣayā vṛttiḥ sā nidretyarthaḥ । punarvṛttipadaṁ nidrāyā vṛttitve bahūnāṁ vipratipattestaddārḍhyāya । ’jāgratsvapnaḥ suṣuptaṁ ca guṇato buddhivṛttayaḥ’ iti smṛteśca । tadudbhūtatama ācchāditabuddhisattvasya bāhyavṛttyabhāvāt tadguṇasukhādīnyavabudhyamānaḥ puruṣo'ntaḥsaṁjña ucyate । naca vṛttyabhāva evāstu, sukhamahamasvāpsaṁ prasannaṁ me manaḥ, duḥkhamahamasvāpsamakarmaṇyaṁ me mano yato bhramatyanavasthitam , muḍho'hamasvāpsaṁ gurūṇi me gātrāṇi alasamiva me cittamiti suptotthitasya smaraṇānubhavāt । anubhavābhāve hi kathaṁ smṛtiḥ syāt । tadanyatamagrahaṇe niyātmakaṁ tvadṛṣṭādyeveti bodhyam ।ata eva ’triṣu dhāmasu yadbhogyaṁ bhoktā bhogaśca yadbhavet’ iti śrutyā tatrāpi bhogyamuktam । yattu ’na tadvibhaktamasti tato'nyadvibhaktaṁ yatpaśyet’ iti śrutyā suṣupte jñānasāmānyābhāvavacanaṁ tatsamagrasuṣuptiparaṁ, yatrāyamanubhavaḥ ’sukhamahamasvāpsaṁ na kiñcidavediṣam’ iti । ’mugdhe'rdhasaṁpattiriti vedāntsūtrācca tatra ’sukham’ ityasya vṛttyutthaduḥkharahitamityarthaḥ । yattu suṣuptau tamaḥ sākṣibhāsyameveti । tanna । sākṣiṇo'pariṇāmitvena saṁskārasmṛtyorasaṁbhavāt । eṣā caikāgratulyāpi tāmasatvādyogaparipanthinīti । yattu tvaṅmanoyogarūpakāraṇābhāvātsuṣuptau jñānasāmānyābhāva iti । tanna। indriyādyutpatteḥ prāgeva hiraṇyagarbhasya jñānotpattyāṁ jñānasāmānye tasya hetutvābhāvāt । gāḍhatamorūpadoṣeṇa sarvavṛttyabhāvasyāsmābhirapyaṅgīkārāt ॥ 10 ॥
smṛtiṁ lakṣayati –
anubhūtaviṣayāsaṁpramoṣaḥ smṛtiḥ ॥ 11 ॥
anubhūtaviṣayādadhikasya saṁpramoṣaḥ steyaṁ parigraho yatra nāsti sā vṛttiḥ smṛtirityarthaḥ । anubhūtaviṣayādanadhikaviṣayeti yāvat । evaṁ cānubhavasamānaviṣayā prāyaḥ, kadācinnyūnaviṣayā, sarvathā nādhikaviṣayeti tātparyam । tatra ghaṭamahaṁ jānāmītyanuvyavasāyarūpānubhavasya viṣaya-vṛttirūpajñānobhayaviṣayakatvāt , saṁskārasya tādṛśasyaiva jananāt tadubhayaviṣayaiva smṛtiriti bhāṣye spaṣṭam । ayaṁ ghaṭa iti pūrvānubhavatastatsamānaviṣayakasya sa ghaṭa ityeva smaraṇasyānubhavāt । vyavasāyataḥ saṁskārasattve'pi tajjanyasya bhāṣyakṛtā smṛtitvānabhyupagamāt । pramuṣṭatattākasya śabdajanyapadārthopasthityādirūpasya smarāmītya(na)nubhavenānubhavamadhye eva praveśa iti kaścit ॥ asmaduktavyākhyāne tu tasyāpi smṛtitve na doṣaḥ ॥ vastuto vyavasāyo'pi ubhayākāranirbhāsa ubhayorapi citipratibimbanāditi bodhyam । ataeva ghaṭamahaṁ jānāmīti jñānaviśeṣyako'nubhavaḥ । sa ghaṭa iti grāhyaviṣayaviśeṣyakaṁ smaraṇam । pūrvānubhūtatatteva tattāvṛtterviṣayaviṣayakasaṁskārajanakatvātsvaviṣayakasaṁskārajanakateti bhāṣyāśayaḥ । tatrānadhigatārthaviṣayo'nubhavaḥ । vṛttyantaragocarārthaviṣayā smṛtiriti bhedaḥ । naca svapne deśakālāntarānubhūtasya pitrāderdeśakālāntarasaṁbaddhatayā smaraṇena tatrāpi saṁpramoṣo'styeveti cet । na । kalpitasmartavyaviṣayatvena tasya viparyātmakatvāt । pramāṇābhāse pramāṇavyavahāravat smṛtyābhāsatvena smṛtivyavahāro'nyeṣām । yadāpyanubhūtārthamātraviṣayaḥ svapnastadāpi pratyakṣāyamāṇatvena bhānāditarasmṛtivailakṣaṇyena viparyayataiva tasyeti bodhyam । īdṛśasmṛtitvamevābhyupetya svapnarūpā smṛtirbhāvitasmartavyetyuktam । bhāvitatvena sūcitaḥ smartavyo'rtho yayetyarthaḥ ॥ ayamapyutsarga iti draṣṭavyam । āsāṁ ca vṛttīnāṁ sukhaduḥkhamohātmakatvātkleśarūpatayā etā niroddhavyā iti dik ॥ 11 ॥
athāsāṁ nirodhe upāyamāha –
abhyāsavairāgyābhyāṁ tannirodhaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇābhyāsavairāgyābhyāṁ tannirodhaḥ ityarthaḥ । tatra cittanadyā viṣayamārgagaṁ vṛttisrotaḥ viṣayadoṣadarśanajena vairāgyeṇa pratibadhyate । vivekadarśanābhyāsena ca vivekamārgagaṁ vṛttisrota udvāhyate । tena ca dhyeyākāravṛttipravāhasya balavatvaṁ dārḍhyaṁ ceti ubhayādhīnaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ ॥ ābhyāṁ vinivṛttabāhyābhiniveśānāṁ cittavṛttīnāmantarmukhatayā svakāraṇe citte śaktirūpatayā'vasthāne sati nirodhākhye kaivalyābdhau cittanadī vilīyata iti dik ॥ 12 ॥
abhyāsaṁ lakṣayati –
tatra sthitau yatnā'bhyāsaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
tatra tayormadhye rājasatāmasavṛttirahitasya sāttvikamātravṛttyekāgratā sthitistatra tannimittaṁ tatsaṁpādanecchayā tatsādhanaviṣayānuṣṭhāne yā yatnadhārā so'bhyāsa ityarthaḥ ॥ 13 ॥
tasyaiva vyutthānasaṁskāreṇa anādinā'pratibandhāya viśeṣamāha –
sa tu dīrghakālanairantaryasatkārāsevito dṛḍhabhūmiḥ ॥ 14 ॥
saḥ abhyāso dīrghakālena sevito nairantaryeṇa sevito brahmacaryeṇa śraddhātapaādibhiḥ satkāraiśca sevito dṛḍhabhūmirvyutthānasaṁskārānabhibhūto bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 14 ॥
tatrādāvaparavairāgyamāha –
dṛṣṭānuśravikaviṣayavitṛṣṇasya vaśīkārasaṁjñā vairāgyam ॥ 15 ॥
aparavairāgyaṁ tāvaccaturvidham । yatamānasaṁjñā vyatirekasaṁjñā ekendriyasaṁjñā vaśīkārasaṁjñā ca ॥ tatra vairāgyasādhanānāmarjanarakṣaṇakṣayahiṁsādyanantadoṣadarśanādīnāṁ jñānapūrvamanuṣṭhānamādyam । ’viraktirdoṣadarśanāt’ iti smṛteḥ ॥ jitānyetānīndriyāṇī etāni jetavyānīti vyatirekāvadhāraṇaṁ dvitīyam । bāhyendriyaviṣayeṣu rāgadveṣādikṣaye sati ekasminneva manasi mānāpamānādiviṣayakarāgadveṣādyapasāraṇaṁ tṛtīyam । etattritayābhyāsena hi viṣayasaṁyoge'pi doṣadarśanamapratividdhaṁ jāyate ’vairāgyāddoṣadarśanam’ iti smṛteḥ ॥ caturthalakṣaṇamidaṁ sūtram । dṛṣṭeṣvaihikeṣu stryannapānaiśvaryādiṣu ānuśravikeṣu vedapratipāditeṣu svargakaraṇalīnatvaprakṛtilīnatvāṇimādyaṣṭaiśvaryādiṣu vitṛṣṇasya saṁnihi(tā(?) teṣu rūpādiṣu mā)nāpamānādiṣu cākṣubdhasyā''dyavairāgyatrayayuktasya cittasya yā vaśīkārasaṁjñā prakṛṣṭaviṣayasāṁnnidhye'pi teṣūpekṣābuddhirmamaivaite vaśyā nāhameṣāmiti ca yā buddhistatsaṁjñakaṁ vairāgyamityarthaḥ । natu rāgābhāvamātraṁ viṣayāsānnidhyena rāgābhāve viraktatvāpatteḥ । ādyavairāgyatrayavato'pi viṣayasānnidhye yogabhraṁśo bhavatīti caturthavairāgyameva yogaheturiti bhāvaḥ ॥ 15 ॥
tatparaṁ puruṣakhyāterguṇavetṛṣṇyam ॥ 16 ॥
uktavairāgyavato dṛḍhataraguṇapuruṣavivekajñānāddharma-meghasamādhirūpāddhetorutpadyamānaṁ sakalaguṇeṣvātmopakaraṇeṣu guṇarūpāyāṁ satvapuruṣānyatākhyātau ca yadvaitṛṣṇyaṁ cittasya jñānaprasādāvasthāniṣpannātmajñānatārūpā tatparamutkṛṣṭaṁ vairāgyamityarthaḥ । (pūrva)viṣayeṣviva jñāne'pi vināśitvādidoṣadarśanasattve'pi avidyānivṛttyākhyaprayojanavaśena tatra nālaṁbuddhirūpaṁ vairāgyam । samyagjñānenāvidyānivṛttau ca tenaiva doṣadarśanena tatrāpyupekṣārūpaṁ vairāgyamiti bhāvaḥ । yaduttaraṁ nirviṣayajñānaprasādamātrarūpo'saṁprājñātaḥ samādhiriti tātparyam । asminneva vairāgye sati aihikakaivalyaniyamaḥ ॥ 16 ॥
atha saṁpajñātavibhāgamāha –
vitarkavicārānandāsmitārūpānugamātsaṁprajñātaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
sākṣātkāraviśeṣarūpairvitarkādibhiranugamāt upadhānātsaṁprajñātaścaturvidhaḥ । samyak saṁśayaviparyayarāhityena prajñāyate prakarṣeṇa jñāyate bhāvyasvarūpaṁ yena sa saṁprajñātasamādhiḥ bhāvanāviśeṣaḥ । sa savitarkaḥ savicāraḥ sānandaḥ sāsmitaśca । bhāvanā ca bhāvyasya viṣayāntaraparihāreṇa cetasi punaḥpunarniveśanam । vitarkādīnāṁ krameṇa nirodhasyāpi kramaḥ । uccārohe kramikasopānaparaṁparāvat । svato nirodhe kramābhāvāt । vitarkādikrama autsargikaḥ । ekadā cittasya paramasūkṣme praveśasya prāyaśo'sambhavāt ।’sthūle vinirjitaṁ cittaṁ tataḥ sūkṣmaṁ śanairnayet’ iti smṛteḥ । kiñca sthūlādiviṣaye rāge uttarottarabhūmau cittasamādhānāsambhavaḥ । ataḥ sthūlādisākṣātkāreṇa tatra tatra doṣadṛṣṭyottarottarabhūmyārohaḥ । yadi tu kasyacidīśvaraprasādādādāvevottarabhūmyāroho bhavati tena pūrvabhūmikābhyāsastatsiddhikāmanāṁ vinā na kāryaḥ। etacca bhūmikācatuṣṭayamekasminnevālambane kartavyam । anyathā pūrvapūrvopāsanātyāgadoṣāpatteḥ, cittacāñcalyadoṣāpatteśca । tathāhi – yadvirāṭśarīraṁ caturbhujādikaṁ vā svaśarīraṁ vā puruṣeśvarasahitaṁ jaḍacaturviṁśatitattvaiḥ prakṛtyā puruṣeṇa ca ṣaḍviṁśatitattvasaṁghātaṁ samaṣṭivyaṣṭyātmakamālambanamadhikṛtya prathamaṁ bhāvanā pravartate tadālambanaṁ, tatrālambane sthūlayormahābhūtendriyayorvidyamānānāmaśeṣa-viśeṣāṇāmatītānāgatavartamānavyavahitaviprakṛṣṭānāṁ guṇadoṣāṇāmadṛṣṭāśrutāmatānāmapi pūrvāparānusaṁdhānena śabdārthollekhena ca bhāvanayā yaḥ sākṣātkāraḥ sa vitarka ityucyate । tena phalenopahitaścittavṛttinirodho vitarkānugata ityucyate । tatrādṛṣṭāśrutāmatānāṁ pūrvacintanāsambhave'pi yogabalenaivottarottaraṁ teṣāṁ sākṣātkāro bhavati । tasyaiva punaḥ savitarkanirvitarkākhyau bhedau vakṣyati । vitarke viparītatarkaṇaṁ śabdārthajñānavikalparūpamityagre sphuṭam । atra sthūlasākṣātkāre taptāyaḥpiṇḍavadekībhāvena puruṣaparyantānāṁ bhānamuttare ca pūrvapūrvahāniriti bhāṣye spaṣṭam । japādijanyāt dhruvādīnāṁ caturbhujādisākṣātkārāccāyaṁ vilakṣaṇaḥ । teṣāṁ hi tapodhyānādituṣṭaḥ parameśvaraḥ svayaṁ śarīraṁ nirmāya puraḥ prakaṭībhūya vāgādivyavahāraṁ cakre । yoginastu yogabalena vaikuṇṭhaśvetadvīpādirūpaṁ paśyantīti viśeṣaḥ । tatastatraivālambane doṣajñānena sthūlākāradṛṣṭiṁ tyaktvā kāraṇatvenānugatā ye tanmātrāhaṁkāraprakṛtirūpā bhūtendriyayoḥ sūkṣmā arthāsteṣu krameṇa dhāraṇāditrayeṇa yastadgatāśeṣasākṣātkāraḥ sa vicāraḥ, viśeṣeṇa caraṇaṁ sūkṣmavastuparyantaṁ yatretyarthāttadupahito vicārānugataḥ । asya savicāranirvicārarūpau bhedau vakṣyati । naca sthūlālambane kathaṁ sūkṣmadṛṣṭiryathārthā । sarveṣāṁ ṣaḍviṁśatitattvakāryatayā kāryakāraṇayoścābhedena ṣaḍviṁśatitattvarūpatvāt । tatrāpi kāryarūpatā'sthirā kāraṇarūpataiva ca satyā । nacaivamapyadṛṣṭasya kathaṁ bhāvanā, śrutamataprakāratayaiva sāmānyato bhāvanāsaṁbhavāt । aśrutāmataviṣayasya ca yogajadharmabalenaiva sākṣātkāra evaṁ sarvatra bodhyam । tatastatraivālambane tāmapi dṛṣṭiṁ doṣadarśanena tyaktvā caturviṁśatitattvānugatasukharūpapuruṣārthe dhāraṇāditrayeṇa pūrvavadaśeṣaviśeṣataḥ sukhākāraḥ sa ānandaḥ jñānajñeyayorabhedopacārāt tadupahitaḥ sānandaḥ । yadyapi sukhavadduḥkhamohāvapi sarvatra tathāpi sukharāgeṇaiva saṁsārādātmadarśanapratibandhācca tadeva mukhyato'śeṣaviśeṣato yogena draṣṭavyam । yathā tatra doṣadarśanena duḥkhadṛṣṭyā yogajasiddhiṣvapi vairāgyaṁ syādityāśayenānandamātre yogopadeśa iti bodhyam । tata ānandaparyantaṁ doṣadarśanena virajya tatraivālambane jīveśvararūpaṁ yatpuruṣadvayamasti tadanyatarasya kūṭasthacinmātrarūpasya jaḍebhyo vivekena ya ātmākāraḥ sākṣātkāraḥ so'smitā, dehādibhinno'smītyetāvanmātrākāratvādasmītyetāvanmātrākāratvādvā । itaḥ paraṁ jñātavyābhāvādeṣā caramabhūmikā । atrāsmitāśabdena viviktacetanākāraṁ mātratopalakṣyate । tenādīnabhāvena(?)ya aiśvaraścetanatatvasākṣātkārastasyāpi saṁgrahaḥ । tadanugato'smitānugataḥ । asyaiva parā kāṣṭhā dharmameghasamādhirityucyate । yasyodaye jñāne'pyalaṁpratyayarūpaparavairāgyaṁ jāyate । tatra pūrvaṁ jīvātmaviṣayāsmitā । tatastato'pi sūkṣmā paramātmaviṣayā । jīvasvarūpajñānaṁ hi pratyakṣaṁ tatraiva paricchinnakūṭasthatvādijñānasyaiva tatsākṣātkāratvāt । ayameva satvapuruṣānyatākhyātiśabdenocyate । pārameśvarayogastu kaurme uktaḥ – ’yatra sākṣātprapaśyanti vimuktā viśvamīśvaram’ iti । kāraṇarūpeṇa vibhutvena ca sarvatrānugamādasmitāyā acetanaghaṭādyālambaneṣvapi saṁbhava iti dik । catvāro'pyete sālambanāḥ sabījā iti cocyante dhyeyarūpālambanayogādvṛttibījasaṁskāro'ntata(?)śceti dhyeyam ॥ 17 ॥
asaṁprajñātamāha –
virāmapratyayābhyāsapūrvaḥ saṁskāraśeṣo'nyaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
tatvajñānalakṣaṇavṛtterapi virāmo'stu iti ’netineti’ ityudīrito yaḥ pratyayo jñāne'pyalaṁbuddhyātmā paravairāgyarūpastasyābhyāsātpaunaḥpunyājjāyate yaḥ saṁskāramātrāvaśeṣo vṛttinirodhaḥ sa saṁprajñātādanyo'saṁprājñāta ityarthaḥ । saṁskāramātraśeṣa ityanena mokṣakālikanirodhavyāvṛttiḥ । asaṁprajñāte hi saṁskāramātraṁ tiṣṭhati natu vṛttiḥ । mokṣe tu cittasyātyantaṁ vilayātsaṁskāro'pi na tiṣṭhatīti viśeṣaḥ । virāmapratyayābhyāsena pūrvasaṁskāranāśe'pi tajjanyasaṁskārasya śeṣaḥ । tajjanyā vṛttistu nāgre । tatra cittasya saṁskāramātrayuktasya yogayantritasyāvasthānam । suṣuptau tu laya iti viśeṣaḥ । sarvasaṁgavivarjitatvena niḥśeṣakleśarāhityena ca tvamarthaśodhanaṁ yogasiddhāntaḥ । tatastatpadārthaśodhanapūrvakaṁ vākyārthaniṣṭhatā vedāntaśāstragamyā । tacchodhanopayuktatvamātreṇānekatvavādo jīvānāmānandarūpatvābhāvaścātrokto na tu vāstava ityavirodhaḥ । asaṁprajñātayogavataḥ prārabdhavaśādvyutthāne'pi vṛtyabhāva eva vṛttijanakasaṁskārāṇāṁ nāśāditi dik ॥ 18 ॥
sa ca dvidhā bhavapratyaya upāyapratyayaśca । tatrādyaṁ lakṣayati –
bhavaprayayo videhaprakṛtilayānām ॥ 19 ॥
videhāśca prakrutilayāśceti dvandvaḥ । tatra videhāḥ sthūladehanirapekṣeṇa liṅgadehenākhilavyavahārakṣamā hiraṇyagarbhādayaḥ । te hi bhūtendriyatanmātrāhaṁkāramahatāmanyatamadātmatvena pratipadya tadupāsanayā tadvāsitāntaḥkaraṇāḥ piṇḍapātāntaraṁ tadanyatame līnāṁ saṁskāramātraśeṣamanasaḥ sthūladeharahitā avṛttikatvātkaivalyamivānubhavanti , prāptābadhayastu punaḥ saṁsāre viśanti । yathā varṣātipāte mṛdrūpā maṇḍūkāḥ punarvarṣāsekena maṇḍūkadehamanubhavanti tadvat । te hi dainandinapralaye kadācicca sargakāle'pi svasaṁskāramātropagatena cittena saṁskāraśeṣeṇa nirodhāvasthena kaivalyapadamiva prāpnuvantaḥ prāpte'vadhau vyutthānakāle devabhāvaprāpakasaṁskāreṇa tadbhāvaṁ prāpya tatphalamaiśvaryādikaṁ tato bhuktvā mucyante । ’daśa manvantarāṇīha tiṣṭhantīndriyacintakāḥ । bhautikāśca śataṁ pūrṇa sahasraṁ tvābhimānikāḥ ॥ bauddhā daśasahasrāṇi tiṣṭhanti vigatajvarāḥ’ iyukteḥ । teṣāṁ ca etaddehapātānantaraṁ svasvādhikārāvasare prādurbhāvarūpajanmamātrakāraṇakatvādbhavapratyayaḥ । bhavo janma pratyayaḥ kāraṇaṁ yasyetyarthāt । prakṛtilayāśca prakṛtyupāsanayā tacchavaleśvaropāsanayā vā brahmāṇḍaṁ bhittvā mahattatvaparyantāvaraṇānyatītya prakṛtyāvaraṇaṁ gatāḥ tadupāsanayā tadvāsanāvāsitāntaḥkaraṇāḥ piṇḍapātāntaraṁ tatra līnāste'pi sādhanānuṣṭhānaṁ vinaiva tatrāvirbhāvarūpājjanmata eva tathāvidhā bhavanti । ’pūrṇaṁ śatasahasraṁ tu tiṣṭhantyavyaktacintakāḥ’ । ityavadhisamāptau punaḥ devādisaṁsāre viśanti । tato mucyante prāgvat । tatsthāstu vivekakhyāterabhāvātsādhikāracetasaḥ kaivalyapadamivānubhavanti sthūladehavṛttisajātīyavṛttyabhāvāt । ata evendriyādyupāsakānāmindriyādyabhimānisūryādiprāpteḥ phalatvena śravaṇam । ayaṁ caiṣāṁ videhebhyo viśeṣaḥ – teṣāmalpamaiśvaryaṁ malinaśca viṣayaḥ । ete ca teṣāmapīśāḥ svasaṁkalpamātreṇa nirmalasatvaviṣayabhogā īśvarakoṭaya ityucyante । pralaye prakṛtilīnatvātsvatantrā na gṛhyante tasya puruṣārthatvāt evaṁ ca te saṁsāraprāptihetutayā heyā iti bhāvaḥ ॥ bhavapratyaya iti padaṁ tantreṇa ṣaṣṭhītatpuruṣārthakamapīti bodhyam ॥ 19 ॥
śraddhāvīryasmṛtisamādhiprajñāpūrvaka itareṣām ॥ 20 ॥
te yoginastrayaḥ । mṛdūpāyāḥ madhyopāyāḥ adhimātropāyāśca । upāyāḥ śraddhādayaḥ । teṣāṁ mṛdutvādi prāgbhavīyādṛṣṭavaśāt । adhimātratvamatiśayitatvam । te'trapratyekaṁ tridhā mṛdusaṁvegamadhyasaṁvegatīvrasaṁvegāḥ । saṁvega upāyānuṣṭhāne śaighryam । tasyāpi mṛdutvādi prāgbhavīyādṛṣṭādeva । tatrādhimātropāyāḥ kṣiprasiddhibhājaḥ teṣāṁ kṣiprataratve hetuṁ darśayati –
tīvrasaṁvegānāmāsannaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
adhimātropāyānāmityādiḥ, samādhilābhastatphalalābhaśceti śeṣaḥ ।’viniṣpannasamādhistu muktiṁ tatraiva janmani’ iti smṛteḥ ॥ 21 ॥
tatrāpi viśeṣamāha –
mṛdumadhyādhimātratvāttato'pi viśeṣaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
mṛdutīvro madhyatīvraḥ adhimātratīvra iti śaighryaṁ tridhā । evaṁ ca mṛdutīvrasaṁvegasyāsannastato madhyatīvrasaṁvegasyāsannataraḥ tato'pyadhimātrasaṁvegasyāsannatama ityarthaḥ । tato'pītyapiśabda āgāmisūtrasthasādhanāpekṣayā āsannatamasamādhyādilābhe ॥ 22 ॥
guptaṁ sukhadoṣāyāntaramāha –
īśvarapraṇidhānādvā ॥ 23 ॥
pūrvasūtrasthaṁ viśeṣa ityanuvartate । vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇeśvarasya parabrahmādiśabdavācyasyaupādhikaiśvaryopalakṣitasya cinmātrapuruṣaviśeṣasya praṇidhānaṁ ’tajjapastadarthabhāvanam’ iti vakṣyamāṇaṁ tadviṣayakadhāraṇādhyānasamādhitrayādalpāditi āsannatamo yogastatphalaṁ ca bhavati । pūrvaṁ hi saṁprajñāto jīvātmasādhāraṇa uktaḥ । tatra jīvātmaviṣayasaṁprajñātāduktopāyenaivāsaṁprajñātasyāsannatamatā । paramātmasaṁprajñātāt taṁ vināpi sa āsannatama iti bhāvaḥ । ata eva śrutyādiṣu prāyeṇa parabrahmajñānameva mokṣahetutvenopadiśyate । tasmādayaṁ mukhyo mārga iti tattvam । kiñca brahmātmanā cintanarūpapremalakṣaṇayā bhaktyābhimukhaīśvaro'sya mokṣo bhavatvityabhidhyāyati । evañca tasyāvyāhatecchatvāttadrūpādabhidhyānasya mokṣa āsannatama iti tātparyam ॥ 23 ॥
atha jīvavyāvṛttamīśvarasvarūpamāha –
kleśakarmavipākāśayairaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśeṣa īśvaraḥ ॥ 24 ॥
avidyāsmitārāgadveṣābhiniveśāḥ kleśāḥ । karma dharmādharmau । vipākāḥ karmaphalāni janmāyurbhogāḥ । āśayastadanuguṇaṁ saṁsārasāmānyam । etaiḥ kālatraye'pyaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśeṣa īśvara ityarthaḥ । jīvanmuktaprakṛtilīnādivyāvṛttaye kālatraye'pīti parāmarśaśūnyatvārthakāparāmṛṣṭapadalabdham ।yadyapi jīvā api kleśādiśūnyā eva teṣāmantaḥkaraṇadharmatvāt, tathāpi svāśrayasvāmitvasaṁbandhenaiva kleśādyabhāvasya vivakṣaṇānna doṣaḥ । jīvā hi tatphaladuḥkhādibhoktṛtvāt kleśādyāśrayacittasvāminaḥ । taduktam – sa hi tatphalabhokteti । yathā yoddhṛṣu vartamānau jayaparājayau svāmini vyapadiśyete iti ca bhāṣye । īśvaratvaṁ cāsyecchāmātreṇa sakalajagaduddharaṇakṣamatvam । tacca jñānakriyāsāmarthyātiśayasaṁpattiṁ vinā na, sā cāpahatarajastamomalaviśuddhasatvopādānaṁ vinetyālocya svayameva satvamayaṁ pradhānamupādatte । etāvataiva pradhānaprerakatāsya yat lokoddharaṇecchayā tadaṅgīkāraḥ । upādāno'pi nāsmadādivattattvamavidvān bhavati । nahi naṭo rāmatvamāropya tāstāśceṣṭā darśayan bhrānto bhavati । evañcedamāhāryamasya rūpam । bādhakālīnecchājanyaṁ jñānamāhāryam । nacecchāyā satvopādānaṁ tenacecchetyanyonyāśrayaḥ, anāditvāt । pūrvakalpasaṁhārakāle pūrṇe mayā sattvaprakarṣa upādeya iti praṇidhānapūrvakaṁ tatsaṁhāre, īśvarasattve pradhānasāmānyamupāgate'pi tadavadhau pūrṇe praṇidhānavaśātpunastadupādatte ityanāditvena śāśvatikatvānna doṣaḥ । evaṁ saṁhārakāle tamaupādāne iti bodhyam । tatra prakṛterdve śaktī sāhajike sṛṣṭiśaktirlayaśaktiśceti । tatreśvareṇa satvaparigrahe sṛṣṭiśakterudbodhaḥ । tamaḥparigrahe layaśakterudbodhaḥ । tamaḥparigrahe ca yoganidretyucyate । tattacchaktyudbodhe tvanādivāsanāsahakāreṇa tattatpuruṣabhogārthaṁ tathā tathā pradhānaṁ pariṇamate iti na vaiṣamyanairghṛṇye īśvarasya prasajyete iti bodhyam । nanvīdṛśe tasmin kiṁ mānamiti cecchrutismṛtyādiśāstramiti gṛhāṇa । tatkartṛkamantrāyurvedādau arthāvyabhicāraniścayāt prāmāṇyasya iṣṭatvenānyatrāpi tatkartṛke tatsvarūpabodhake'pi tanniścayāt । naca tasyānyakartṛkatvaṁ sambhavati । oṣadhīnāṁ tatsaṁyogānāṁ cānvayavyatirekayoranyasya sahasreṇāpi puruṣāyuṣairaśakyatvāt । nacāgamādanvayavyatirekau tābhyāṁ cāgama iti tatsaṁtānayoranāditvānna doṣaḥ, mahāpralaye tayorvicchedāt । visaṁdṛśapariṇāmakṣīrekṣurasāderdadhiguḍādirūpātpariṇāmātpūrvasadṛśapariṇāmāvaśyakatvena sāmyāvasthārūpa-sadṛśapariṇāmasyaiva mahāpralayatvāt । tasmādīśvarabuddhisatvaprakarṣādeva veda iti siddham । tasya tattvaṁ vedakāraṇāt vedena tathā bodhanācca, śāstraṁ tadeva bodhayati sadaiveśvaraḥ sadaiva mukta ekaśceti । atastadaiśvarya tajjñānaṁ ca sāmyātiśayanirmuktam । anyeṣāṁ tvaupacārikamaiśvaryamiti dik ॥ 24 ॥
tatra mānāntaramāha –
tatra niratiśayaṁ sarvajñabījam ॥ 25 ॥
sarvajñatvasyānumāpakaṁ yajñānasya sātiśayatvamayamito bahujñānavānityevaṁ tattatreśvare niratiśayaṁ viśrāntamityarthaḥ । jñānaṁ ca kvacitprāptakāṣṭhaṁ sātiśayatvāt parimāṇavadityanumānam । atra śrutiranukūlastarkaḥ । tasya śiveśvaraviṣṇvādiviśeṣasaṁjñāvatvaṁ sarvajñatvatṛpticaitanyasvātantryāluptaśaktitvānantaśaktitvarūpaṣaḍaṅgavatvaṁ jñānavairāgyaiśvaryatapaḥsatyakṣamādhṛtisraṣṭṛtvātmabodhādhiṣṭhātṛtvarūpadaśāvyayatvaṁ ca śrutyādito'vaseyam । nanvevaṁ nityatṛptasya svārthatṛṣṇāsaṁbhavāt aprayojanā kathaṁ pravṛttiḥ । prāṇikaruṇayā tatpravṛttyānityatvādvā na doṣa iti cet । duḥkhabahulalokasarjanānupapattireveti cenna । jñānadharmopadeśena puruṣakaivalyāya karuṇayā prāṇyanugrahāya tadupapatteḥ । bhogavivekakhyātirūpakāryakaraṇena caritārthacittanivṛttau hi kaivalyaṁ bhavati । atastadupayogivairāgyaniṣpattaye duḥkhabahulalokasarjanopapattirapi, upapāditarītyā śaṅkānudayācceti dik ॥ 25 ॥
tatra brahmādibhyo viśeṣamāha –
pūrveṣāmapi guruḥ kālenānavacchedāt ॥ 26 ॥
sa eṣa īśvaraḥ pūrveṣāṁ pūrvasargotpannānāmapi brahmaviṣṇuharādīnāmapi brahmaviṣṇurādīnāmapi guruḥ sraṣṭā'ntaryāmividhayā vedādidvārā jñānacakṣuḥpradaśca kālānavacchinnatvātteṣāṁ kālena śatavarṣādināvacchedāditi bhāvaḥ । ’yo brahmāṇaṁ vidadhāti pūrvaṁ yo vai vedāṁśca prahiṇoti tasmai’ iti śrutiriti bhāvaḥ । asya ca nimittakāraṇatvānna prakṛtisvātantryakṣatiḥ । ghaṭe kulālavat daṇḍādīnāṁ kāraṇtve'pi tadvadevāsya svatantratvamapi। atreśvarasya sarvapitṛtvavacanātsarvāntaryāmitvena rūpeṇa gurutvena jīvānāmapi ātmeśvara iti vedāntavākyārtho'pi sūcitaḥ । yo hi yasyādhiṣṭhātā sa yasyātmeti dṛṣṭam । yathā sūryaścakṣuṣaḥ। yathā vā jīvo dehasya tenāvibhāgalakṣaṇo'bheda eva ’avibhāgo vacanāt’ iti sūtreṇa vedānte'pyuktaḥ । etanmūlaka eva jīvabrahmaṇoraṁśāṁśibhāvavyavahāra iti dik । etatsargādau sa siddhastathā krāntasargādāvapyāgamātsa siddha iti ॥ 26 ॥
tatpraṇidhānāya tanmantramāha –
tasya vācakaḥ praṇavaḥ ॥ 27 ॥
tasyeśvarasya । evaṁceśvaraḥ praṇavavācyaḥ । vācyavācakabhāvaśca svābhāvikaḥ īśvarasyaitatsūtrarūpasaṁketāt । nanu yadi svābhāvikaḥ sambandhaḥ śabdārthayoḥ saṅketena vyajyate tato yatra nāsti na tatra vyajyeta । nahyavidyamāno ghaṭo dīpena vyajyate । tasmātsaṅketa eva vācakatvaṁ, saṅketakṛtamiti tu rāhoḥ śira itivaditi cenna janakatvāderapīśvarasaṅketarūpatvāpatteḥ । sarveṣu ca śabdeṣu sarvārthasambandho'styeveti noktadoṣaḥ । saṅketastvīśvarasya sthitameva sambandhaṁ bodhayati । pitāputrasambandhasyāyamasya piteti saṅketena bodhavat । evaṁ cedaṁ sūtraṁ īśvarasaṅketarūpam । anyathāsya tattvamapi bhajyeta । evañca yatrārthe īśvarasaṅketaḥ sa tasya vācyaḥ । anyastu lakṣyādiriti vivekaḥ । saṅketaścādhyāsarūpa iti tṛtīyo bhāṣyakṛtvakṣyati । adhyāsaścaiśvaro yo'yaṁ śabdaḥ so'yamartha ityākāra eva । asyāyamartha iti tu vikalpaḥ । evaṁ ca tadviṣayastanmūlaṁ cāvibhāgarūpatādātmyameva śaktiriti bodhyam । pralaye śabdānāṁ pradhānasāmye jāte'pi saṁskāravaśātsargāntare pūrvavacchaktiyuktānāmevāvirbhāvaḥ । pūrvasaṅketānusāreṇa ca bhagavatā saṅketaḥ kriyate। vyavahāraparamparāyā nityatayā ca nityaḥ śabdārthasambandhaḥ iti āgāmino yoginaḥ pratijānate iti bhāṣyakṛdaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
atha tatpraṇidhānamāha –
tajjapastadarthabhāvanam ॥ 28 ॥
tasya praṇavasya japastena sahācintyaiśvaryayuktasya tadarthasya praramātmanaḥ śraddhādyairbhāvanaṁ dhyānam । vācyavācakabhāvaṁ jñātvā kriyamāṇaṁ sarvārthadamupāsanam । [sarvārthāścittaikāgryādayaḥ ] praṇave brahmaviṣṇvādidhyānamapi tadantaryāmicaitanyābhiprāyeṇa ॥ 28 ॥
asyotkarṣamāha –
tataḥ pratyaktcetanādhigamo'pyantarāyābhāvaśca ॥ 29 ॥
tata īśvarapraṇidhānāt, pratīpaṁ viparītamañcati vijānāti sa cāsau cetanaśceti pratyakcetano jīvastadadhigamastatsākṣātkāraḥ । naceśvaraviṣayātpraṇidhānātkathaṁ jīvasākṣātkāraḥ? sādṛśyāt । yathaikaśāstrābhyāsaḥ sadṛśārthaśāstrāntara-jñānajanakaḥ । yatheśvaraḥ śuddhaḥ prasannaḥ kevalo'nupasargastathā buddheḥ pratisaṁvedyapi jīva iti । antarāyāṇāṁ yogavighnānāṁ vyādhyādīnāṁ nivṛttiśca bhavatītyevamutkarṣo'syeti bhāvaḥ ॥ 29 ॥
tānantarāyānāha –
vyādhistyānasaṁśayapramādālasyāviratibhrāntidarśanālabdhabhūmikatvānavasthitatvāni citavikṣepāste'ntarāyāḥ ॥ 30 ॥
rajastamojanyā ete nava cittavikṣepakatvādyogāntarāyāḥ । cittasya vikṣepo'nekavṛttitvam । vyādhirvātapittaśleṣmaṇāṁ vaiṣamyajanyaḥ। styānaṁ yogānuṣṭhānākṣamatvam । saṁśayaḥ śāstroktasādhaneṣūbhayakoṭispṛgjñānam । pramādaḥ śamādibhāvanābhāvaḥ । ālasyaṁ kāyacittayorgurutvādapravṛttiḥ । aviratirviṣayābhilāṣaḥ । bhrāntidarśanaṁ śāstroktārthaviparītaniścayaḥ । alabdhabhūmikatvaṁ vakṣyamāṇayogabhūmīnāṁ sādhanānuṣṭhāne'pyalābhaḥ । anavasthitatvaṁ yogabhūmilābhe'pi yogabhraṁśaḥ ॥ 30 ॥
anyānapyantarāyānāha –
duḥkhadaurmanasyāṅgamejayatvaśvāsapraśvāsā vikṣepasahabhuvaḥ ॥ 31 ॥
duḥkhaṁ svato dveṣyam । daurmanasyaṁ cittacāñcalyam । aṅgamejayatvaṁ aṅgakampaḥ । śvāso bāhyavāyorantaḥpraveśaḥ । praśvāsaḥ āntaravāyorbahirnirgamaḥ । ete cittacāñcalyarūpavikṣepasahabhuvaḥ tajjanyā ityarthaḥ ॥ 31 ॥
īśvarapraṇidhānavatastvete svata eva na bhavantītyuktam । tadabhāvavatastu balavadabhyāsanirasanīyā eta ityāha –
tatpratiṣedhārthamekatattvābhyāsaḥ ॥ 32 ॥
teṣāmantarāyāṇāṁ pratiṣedhārthamantato yatra kutracidapyekārthe'bhyāsaḥ kāryaḥ । tena coditāyāmekāgratāyāṁ vikṣepaḥ praśamamupayanti । ekāgratopadeśādeva cittameṣāmakṣaṇikaṁ sthiramanubhūtasmṛtidarśanācca svakṛtakarmopabhogācca । yadahamadrākṣaṁ tatspṛśāmi yaccāsprākṣaṁ tatpaśyāmīti pratyabhijñānācca, ahaṁpratyayagocaraścittameva । ekāgratopadeśādeva nāṇu kintu vibhu, yogināṁ sarvāvacchedenaikadākhilasākṣātkārācca, ayogināmapi dīrghaśaṣkulībhakṣaṇādau anekendriyavṛttyanubhavācca । naca teṣāṁ yogajadharma eva pratyāsattiḥ, saṁyogādilaukikapratyāsattyaivopapattau tatkalpane gauravādanyonyavyabhicārācca, tadvāraṇāya sākṣātkāreṣvavāntarajātikalpane gauravam । ata eva na madhyamaparimāṇaṁ pralaye vināśenādṛṣṭādhāratānupapatteḥ । ato vibhu । tasya ca sarvārthagrahaṇasamarthasya tamaākhyāvaraṇabhaṅga eva yogena kriyate । suṣuptau tamaso vṛttipratibandhakatvasiddheḥ । vibhorapi gatiśrutirātmana iva prāṇendriyādyupādhinopapannā। vibhorapi pradhānasya (?) kāryarūpatvadarśanāt । taduktaṁ bhāṣye – ekamanekārthamavasthitaṁ ca cittamiti । viśokāveti sūtre buddhisattvaṁ bhāsvaramākāśakalpamiti coktam ॥ 32 ॥
idānīṁ śraddhāvīryādirūpopāyābhyāse sthitisādhane vaśīkāradvāreṇāpratibandhahetūnāha –
maitrīkaruṇāmuditopekṣāṇāṁ sukhaduḥkhapuṇyāpuṇyaviṣayāṇāṁ bhāvanātaścitaprasādanam ॥ 33 ॥
prasādanaṁ sthitinibandhanam । nibandhanatvaṁ ca sthitihetuśraddhādyapratibandhadvārā sthityabhraṁśahetuttvam । sukhādiśabdāśca sukhitādivācinaḥ । teṣu krameṇa maitryādīnāmutpādanābhyāsātprasannaṁ cittamekāgraṁ sthitipadaṁ labhate ityarthaḥ। maitrī sauhārdam । karuṇā nirupādhiḥ paraduḥkhaprahāṇecchā । muditā prītiḥ । upekṣā audāsīnyam। eṣāṁ ca parikarmeti saṁjñā । ekāgratāhetuścittasaṁskāraḥ parikarma । sa ca viṣayakāluṣyarāhityarūpaścittaprasādaḥ । rāgadveṣerṣyāsūyāmarṣapāpādimalāpasāraṇadvārā ete taddhetavaḥ ॥ 33 ॥
prasādasya pasādhanāntaramāha –
pracchardanavidhāraṇābhyāṁ vā prāṇasya ॥ 34 ॥
prāṇasya pracchardanaṁ vamanaṁ recanam । vidhāraṇaṁ kumbhakam । etacca pūrakopalakṣaṇam । etadvā cittaprasādasya kāraṇam । vāśabdo vakṣyamāṇāpekṣayā vikalpe । maitryādibhāvanāyāḥ sarvaiḥ saha samuccayāditi miśrāḥ । “indriyāṇāṁ balaṁ prāṇāsteṣāṁ yatnena nigrahāt । vikṣepahetavo'kṣāṇāṁ dahyante doṣarāśayaḥ” iti smṛtiḥ । yadvā pracchardanavidhāraṇe recakapūrakau tāvanmātraprāṇāyāmasyāpi nāḍīśuddhyarthaṁ vasiṣṭhasaṁhitādāvuktatvāt ॥ 34 ॥
upāyāntaramāha sthitau –
viṣayavatī vā pravṛttirutpannā manasaḥ sthitinibandhanī ॥ 35 ॥
manaso nāsikāgrajihvāgratālujihvāmadhyajihvāmūleṣu yogaśāstroktaprakāreṇa dhāraṇāt krameṇa tanmātrarūpadivyagandhadivyarūpadivyasparśadivyaśabdaviṣayā yā pravṛttiḥ pakṛṣṭā sākṣātkārarūpā vṛttiḥ saṁvidutpadyate । tā utpannā vṛttayaścittasyaikāgratākāraṇānītyarthaḥ । evaṁ candrādityagrahamaṇipradīpamaṇiratnādivṛttayo'pi । śāstroktārthaikadeśasākṣātkāreṇārthāntare'pi saṁśayādityāgena śraddhāvīryādyapratibaddhaṁ bhavatītyāśayaḥ ॥ 35 ॥
upāyāntaramāha –
viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī ॥ 36 ॥
vigataśokā prakāśarūpā ca pravṛttirmanasaḥ sthairyaheturityarthaḥ । sā cāntaḥkaraṇasya puruṣasya vā yogajasākṣātkārarūpā vṛttiḥ । tayośca vidhūtarajastamomalatayā sattvamayatvena sukhamayatvādviśokatvam । prakāśamayatvājjyotiṣmatītvam । sā ca cāñcalyahetuśokanāśakatvāttatsthairyakarī । nanvātmasākṣātkāre punaścittasthiteḥ ka upayoga iti cet । asaṁprajñātahetuparavairāgyāyeti gṛhāṇa । tathā sākṣātkārābhyāsaṁ vinā mithyājñānavāsanānunmūlanena tadunmūlanārthaṁ paramātmani cittasamādhānārthaṁ ca ॥ 36 ॥
upāyāntaramāha –
vītarāgaviṣayaṁ vā cittam ॥ 37 ॥
vītarāgaṁ sanakādicittaṁ tadviṣayadhyānāt dhyātṛcittamapi tadvat sthirasvabhāvaṁ bhavati । yathā kāmukacintayā cittaṁ kāmukaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 37 ॥
upāyāntaramāha –
svapnanidrājñānālambanaṁ vā ॥ 38 ॥
yadā jāgrajjñāne svapnajñānadṛṣṭiḥ kriyate bhaṅguraviṣayatvāttadā tato viraktaṁ cittaṁ sthiraṁ bhavati । tathā jāgratpuruṣajñāneṣu suṣuptijñānadṛṣṭiḥ kriyate svarūpāvaraṇasāmyāttadā tadviraktaṁ cittaṁ sthiraṁ bhavatityarthaḥ ॥ 38 ॥
upāyāntaramāha –
yathābhimatadhyānādvā ॥ 39 ॥
yadevābhimataṁ hariharamūrtyādi tadeva dhyāyet । tatra labdhasthitipadamanyatrāpi sthiraṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ । prasādamārabhyaitadantānāṁ parikarmasaṁjñā śāstre । eṣāmanuṣṭhāne aicchiko vikalpaḥ ॥ 39 ॥
cittasthairyagamakaparikarmaniṣpatteḥ phalamāha –
paramāṇuparamamahattvānto'sya vaśīkāraḥ ॥ 40 ॥
tatsaṁjñakamasya vairāgyamityarthaḥ । tadyuktaṁ na punaḥ parikarmābhyāsamapekṣate । tadevamabhyāsavairāgyādikaṁ parikarmāntaṁ yogasyāntaraṅgasādhanamuktam । yogadvayaṁ cāvāntarabhedairuktam ॥ 40 ॥
atha saṁprajñātaphalamāha –
kṣīṇavṛtterabhijātasyeva maṇergrahītṛgrahaṇagrāhyeṣu tatsthatadañjanatā samāpattiḥ ॥ 41 ॥
kṣīṇavṛtterniruddhadhyeyātiriktavṛtteḥ niṣpannasaṁprajñātayogasyeti yāvat । hetugarbha caitat । samāpattiriti sākṣātkārasaṁjñā । svata eva sarvārthagrahaṇasamarthasya viṣayāntaravyāsaṅgadoṣarūpaṁ tattadgrahaṇe pratibandhakavṛttyantaranirodhena tadapagamena tadapagame sati grahītrādiṣu dhyeyeṣu samāpattiḥ sākṣātkārarūpā vṛttiḥ svata eva bhavati । sā ca tatsthatadañjanatārūpā teṣu grahītrādiṣu sthitasya cittasyāśeṣaviśeṣaiḥ samyaktadākaratārūpetyarthaḥ । tatra dṛṣṭānto'bhijātasya maṇeriti । yathābhijātasya svabhāvato nirmalasya sphaṭikādeḥ bāhyamalāpakarṣe sannikṛṣṭavastrākāratā tadvat । atra grahītā puruṣasāmānyam । grahaṇaṁ trayodaśavidhaṁ karaṇam । grāhyaṁ ca sthūlasūkṣmatararūpeṇa trividhaṁ pañcamahābhūtapañcatanmātraprakṛtirūpam । anena yogaviṣayaḥ sarvo'pi saṁgṛhītaḥ । tatra grahītṛsamāpattau sthūlasūkṣmaviṣayakatvarūpaviśeṣābhāvaḥ sā ekavidhaivāsmitārūpā । grāhyagrahaṇasamāpattī tu sthūlasūkṣmaviṣayatvātsaviśeṣe । tatra sthūlaṁ tanmātrakāryāṇi bhūtāni ahaṅkārakāryāṇi ca । taditaratprakṛtiparyantaṁ sūkṣmam ॥ 41 ॥
tatra sthūlasamāpatteḥ savitarkanirvitarkākhyau viśeṣāvāha –
tatra śabdārthajñānavikalpaiḥ saṁkīrṇā savitarkā samāpattiḥ ॥ 42 ॥
sūkṣmaviṣayāyāstṛtīyasūtre vakṣyamāṇatayā'trasūtre sthūlaviṣayāgrahaṇam । tatra gauritiśabdo gaurityartho gauriti jñānamityavibhāgarūpā ye śabdārthajñānavikalpā abhedabhramāstadyuktā gavādisthūlasamāpattirviparītatarkaṇayogātsavitarkasaṁjñetyarthaḥ । ata eva sa yogaḥ savikalpa ityucyate । loke'pīdṛśaṁ jñānaṁ savikalpakamucyate । etadvikalpaśūnyaśca nirvikalpakayoga iti । vastuta udāttatvādidharmaiḥ śabdasya jaḍatvamūrtatvādibhirarthasya prakāśamūrtivirahādibhirjñānasya parasparasmādbheda eva । śabdādyabhedavikalpa āropasāmānyopalakṣakaḥ ॥ 42 ॥
sthūlasamāpatterdvitīyaṁ bhedamāha –
smṛtipariśuddhau svarūpaśūnyevārthamātranirbhāsā nirvitarkā ॥ 43 ॥
pūrvasūtroktavikalpe saṁketagrāhyaśaktismṛtireva bījam । śravaṇamanananididhyāsanairhi samāpattirjāyate । tatra śravaṇaṁ śaktismṛtikārya śaktiśca śabdārthayorvṛttyeśvarakalpitābhedakalpitābhedādhyavasāyarūpa-saṁketagrāhyo'bheda eveti tajjanye śābdabodhe'pi tayorabhede upanītattvādbhāsate । tataḥ śravaṇakārye manane nididhyāsanarūpe prathamasākṣātkāre ca bhāsate । upanayasāmyāt । yadā dhyeyāveśavaśācchaktismṛteḥ pariśuddhirapagamo bhavati tajjanyaśrutānumitasākṣātkārāṇāmapi । vikalparūpāṇāṁ pariśuddhirapagamaḥ tadā samāpattiḥ svarūpaśunyeva bhavati । śabdajñānāsphuraṇenābhedāropāsaṁbhavāt । tadā svarūpamātranirbhāsā'vikalpitarūpā paricchīnnā dhyeyārthamātrāvagāhinī sthūlasamāpattirnirvitarkasaṁjñetyarthaḥ। iyaṁ samāpattiḥ paraṁ pratyakṣamucyate, avidyāleśenāpyasaṁparkāt । pūrvā cāparaṁ pratyakṣamavidyāleśasattvāt । sa cārthaḥ ka ityatroktaṁ bhāṣye mahattvasamānādhikaraṇaikatvaviṣayaikabuddhiviṣayo'ṇupracayaviśeṣarūpāvayavī ghaṭādirūpaḥ । aṇuśabdena tanmātrāṇi paramāṇavaśca । tatra ca rūparasādiparamāṇūnāṁ nairantaryeṇa saṅkalitatayāvasthānam । saca tebhyo nātyantabhinnaḥ, gavāśvavaddharmadharmibhāvānupapatteḥ । nātyantamabhinnaḥ, dharmivadeva tadanupapatteḥ । tasmāttato bhinno'bhinnaśca । sa ca tadanubhavatadvyavahārābhyāṁ vipratipannaṁ pratyanumeyaḥ । kāraṇabhedādeva tadākāro dharmāntarasya kapālāderudaye ca tirobhavannaṣṭa iti vyavahriyamāṇaḥ aṇusādhyakriyābhinnatadasādhyamadhūdakādidhāraṇalakṣaṇakriyāvān, sparśavān, mahattvavān, ekattvavān, kiñcidapekṣayāṇutvavāṁśceti ॥ 43 ॥
uktaṁ dvaividhyaṁ sūkṣmaviṣayasamāpattāvatidiśati –
etayaiva savicārā nirvicārā ca sūkṣmaviṣayā vyākhyātā ॥ 44 ॥
etayaiva savitarkanirvitarkarūpayā sthūlaviṣayayā samāpattyā sūkṣmaviṣayāpi savicāranirvicārarūpā samāpattidvayī vyākhyātā । anyoparāgānuparāgasāmyenetyarthaḥ । atra vikalpatacchūnyatvayornātideśaḥ sthūlaviṣayāyāṁ nirvitarkākhyapūrvabhūmikāyāṁ tyaktasya vikalpasya sūkṣmaviṣayottarabhūmikāyāmasaṁbhavāditi । taduktaṁ bhāṣye ’evamubhayoretayornirvitarkayā vikalpahānirvyākhyātā’ iti । tatra sthūlarūpaṁ yatkāryaṁ taduparāgeṇa sūkṣme samāpattiḥ savicārā, kāryakāraṇavicāraghaṭitattvāt । tasyāṁ hi sthūlakāryaghaṭādivaiśiṣṭyaṁ tatra cāṇūnāmuparyadhodeśāvacchinnatvaṁ pārthivaparamāṇau gandhatanmātrapradhānapañcatanmātrānugamaḥ । āpye gandhatanmātrabhinnarasatanmātrapradhānacaturanugamaḥ । taijase taddvayarahitarūpatanmātrapradhānatryanugamaḥ, vāyavīye sparśaśabdatanmātrānugamaḥ । nābhase śabdatanmātrānugamastadviśiṣṭā buddhirupajāyate । evaṁ ca tattatparamāṇustattanmātrapracayātmā, tanmātramapi gandhādyaṇupracayātmakamiti bodhyam । taduttarotpadyamānā ca kevalasūkṣmaviṣayā nirvicāreti vibhāgaḥ । yadyapi tanmātrādisūkṣmamapi sarvadharmātmakaṁ tadvacca tathāpi sākṣātkārābhyāsenātītānagatavartamānasakalataddharmāpagama iti dik ॥ 44 ॥
sūkṣmo viṣayaḥ kiyatparyanta ityākāṅkṣāyāmāha –
sūkṣmaviṣayatvaṁ cāliṅgaparyavasānam ॥ 45 ॥
na kvāpi layaṁ gacchatītyaliṅgaṁ pradhānaṁ tatparyantaṁ sūkṣmo viṣayaḥ ityarthaḥ । tattvāntaraprakṛtitvamatra sūkṣmatvaṁ vivakṣitamityarthaḥ । na ca jalādibhūtacatuṣṭaye'tivyāptiḥ । bhūtānāmuttarottarabhūteṣu ādhārakāraṇamātratvāttanmātrāṇāmeva bhūtopādānatvāt । anyathāṣṭaprakṛtitvasiddhāntavirodhaḥ syāt । puruṣastu na pariṇāmikāraṇaṁ kintvadhiṣṭhānakāraṇaṁ teṣāṁ saṁsarge nimittakāraṇaṁ ceti na tasyedṛśasaukṣmyamiti bhāvaḥ ॥ 45 ॥
idānīṁ yathoktasamāpattyākhyakāryamukhena sabījaparibhāṣāpūrvakaṁ saṁprajñātasāmānyalakṣaṇamāha –
tā eva sabījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 46 ॥
tā eva grāhyagrahaṇagrahītṛṣu samāpattasya eva sabījaḥ samādhiḥ saṁprajñātayoga ityarthaḥ। samāpattirūpasākṣātkārahetutvād yogasya samāpattitvaṁ kāryakāraṇabhedāt । ānandasya buddhidharmatvenānandasamāpattergrahaṇasamāpattāveva praveśaḥ, samāpattīnāṁ duḥkhanivṛttibījasaṁskārahetutvāt, taddhetoḥ vṛttinirodharūpayogasyāpi sabījatvam । samādhiśabdaścāṅgāṅginorabhedena yoge prayukta iti dik ॥ 46 ॥
uktāsu samāpattiṣu itarāsāṁ nirvicāraphalakatvānnirvicārāyāḥ phalamāha –
nirvicāravaiśāradye'dhyātmaprasādaḥ ॥ 47 ॥
dhyeyagatāśeṣaviśeṣagrāhiṇī niścalaikāgratā cittasya vaiśāradyam । nirvicārasamāpattyā eva vaiśāradye sati adhyātmam ātmani buddhau prasādo bhavati yena puruṣādisākṣātkārastadyogaṁ vināpi bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ 47 ॥
tadevāha –
ṛtaṁbharā tatra prajñā ॥ 48 ॥
ṛtaṁ satyaṁ kūṭasthanityaṁ puruṣaṁ bibharti tādṛśī tatsaṁjñā prajñā sākṣātkārastatra prasāde sati bhavatītyarthaḥ । taduktam – ’āgamenānumānena dhyānābhyāsarasena ca । tridhā prakalpayan prajñāṁ labhate yogamuttamam’ iti । pūrvārdhena śravaṇamanananididhyāsanānyuktāni ॥ 48 ॥
nanvāgamānumānābhyāmarthatattvanirṇaye'laṁ taduttarayogenetyata āha –
śrutānumānaprajñābhyāmanyaviṣayā viśeṣārthatvāt ॥ 49 ॥
śabdānumāne hi sāmānyaviṣaye tadviṣayātiriktaviṣayā ca yogajaprajñā viśeṣaviṣayatvādityarthaḥ । laukikapratyakṣamapi na sūkṣmavyavahitaviprakṛṣṭaviṣayamityapi bodhyam । yogajajñānaṁ tu sakalaviśeṣagrāhakamiti anadhigatārthagantṛtvāttasya prāmāṇyam । nanu puruṣe viśeṣābhāvāttatprajñākena viśeṣeṇa saphalā syāditi cenna, antataḥ svasvopādhibimbānāmevātītānāgatavartamānānāṁ bhogarūpāṇāṁ muktāmuktasakalapuruṣeṣvanyonyaṁ viśeṣatvāditi bodhyam ॥ 49 ॥
atha saṁprajñātaparaṁparāyāḥ phalamāha –
tajjaḥ saṁskāro'nyasaṁskārapratibandhī ॥ 50 ॥
tajjaḥ ekāgrasākṣātkāradhārārūpayā saṁprajñātaprajñayā janitaḥ saṁskāro'nyeṣāṁ vyutthānasaṁskārāṇāṁ pratibandhī tajjanyavṛttyākhyakāryavirodhītyarthaḥ । atra saṁprajñātaparaṁparayā samādhiprajñāsaṁskāradārḍhyena duḥkhahetuvyutthānasaṁskārābhibhavaḥ, tasya dharmameghasamādhinā parisamāptiḥ । sa ca siddhikāmanātyāgena nirantarotpannātsattvapuruṣānyatākhyātipravāhātsavāsanāvidyāsaṁskāranivṛttau tasyāmapi khyātau prayojanābhāvena duḥkhātmikāyāmalaṁpratyayarūpavairāgye sati jāyate iti jñeyam । yaduttaramasaṁprajñātodayaḥ sarvajñatādijanakaṁ prakṛṣṭaṁ dharma mehati varṣatīti vyutpatteḥ । asyāmavasthāyāṁ jīvanmukta ucyate, tataḥ prāk satyāṁ kāmanāyāṁ bhūtendriyaprakṛtijayotthaḥ svechābhogaśca bhavati । mokṣānyathānupapattyaivāvidyāsaṁskārāṇāṁ vidyāsaṁskāradārḍhyena nāśaḥ । avidyāsaṁskārātiriktasaṁskārāṇāṁ ca cittanāśenaiva nāśaḥ । kasyacittu sarvajñatvādijanakadharmameghābhāve'pi jñānādavidyānivṛttau uttarakleśābhāvātkarmavipākābhāve'pi prārabdhakarmabhogahetuvāsanānāmanucchedena prārabdhakarmabhogānantaraṁ dehapāte kaivalyaṁ bhavatīti jñeyam । yattu yogasyāśeṣapāpanāśakatvaṁ śrūyate tattu jñānapratibandhakāśeṣapāpanāśaparam । yattu tajjanyajñānasya sarvakarmanāśakatvaṁ tatprārabdhātiriktasarvakarmanāśaparam । jñānena prārabdhanāśe jīvanmuktipratipādakaśrutivirodhaśca syāttasya sarvakarmanāśakatvamavidyādikleśasahakāryucchedena svavipākānārambhakatvaṁ, prārabdhakarmabhoge tu vāsanaiva taddhetusahakāriṇīti bodhyam ॥ 50 ॥
nanu vyutthānasaṁskārābhibhave'pi prajñāsaṁskārābhibhavābhāvāttatpravāhānivṛttau tatraiva janmani śīghraṁ mokṣo na syādata āha –
tasyāpi nirodhe sarvanirodhānnirbījaḥ samādhiḥ ॥ 51 ॥
paravairāgyeṇa svasaṁskāradvārā prajñākṛtasaṁskārāṇāṁ prajñāyāśca nirodhe kāraṇābhāvena kāryānutpādānnirbījaḥ samādhirbhavatītyarthaḥ । tatra pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñātasaṁskārasyāpyuttarottarāsaṁprajñātenātyantābhibhave jāyamāne caramāsaṁprajñāto nirbījakāṣṭhā bhavati । uttarottarāsaṁprajñāteṣu kālavṛddhyā pūrvapūrvāsaṁprajñātānāṁ saṁskārajanakatvaṁ siddhyati saṁskāravṛddhyaiva kālavṛddhyaucityāt । sa ca yathā yathātiśīyate tathā tathā tattvajñānaparyantākhilasaṁskārān saṁprajñātayogajāstanūkaroti । evaṁ pūrvapūrvasaṁskārasahakṛtacaramāsaṁprajñātena niḥśeṣataḥ prajñātatsaṁskāradāhaḥ। tataḥ prārabdhamapi karma na svavipākasamarthaṁ, sahakāriṇāṁ dagdhatvāt । prāgbhavīyabhogasaṁskārā hi tatsahakāriṇaḥ । tataḥ puruṣārthasamāptyā caritādhikāraṁ cittamasamāptabhogakenaiva prārabdhakarmaṇā nirodhasaṁskāraiśca saha svakāraṇe'tyantaṁ līyate । iyameva cittasya mahānidrā puruṣasya kaivalyamātyantiko duḥkhātmakākhiladṛśyaviyogaḥ, taduktaṁ – ’manasobhyudayo nāśo manonāśo mahodaya’ iti । nanu jñānenaiva prārabdhabhogottaraṁ mokṣasiddhau kimanena yogeneticenna, prārabdhasyāpyatikrameṇa jhaṭiti mokṣārthatvāt । atra vadantivivekasākṣātkārarūpaṁ jñānaṁ sāṁkhyapadavācyaṁ, sarvāsarvacittavṛttinirodharūpo dvividho yogaścobhayamapi vyāpārabhedātsvātantryeṇa mokṣakāraṇamatra śāstre vivakṣitam । tatra kevalajñānena mokṣe janayitavye'bhimānanivartakātmasākṣātkāraparyanta eva saṁprajñāto'pekṣyate natu vṛttyantaravāsanākṣayādyartha saṁprajñātaparaṁparāpi । prārabdhasamāptau tu satyāṁ sarvavāsanānāṁ cittena saha nāśāt। anye tu tameva viditveti śruteḥ kasyacitkhalpayogenāpi jñānaṁ, etadantayogena tu bhavatyeva jñānamityāśayaḥ। ’yatsāṁkhyaiḥ prāpyate sthānaṁ tadyogairapi gamyate’ iti gītāvākye samyakkhyātaṁ saṁkhyā tattvasākṣātkārastadupāyairgaubalīvardanyāyena śravaṇamanananididhyāsanarūpairyajjñānaṁ prāpyate tad yogairapi prāpyate(?) iti na tadvirodha ityāhuḥ ॥ 51 ॥
